About this property
SINGLE STOREY COTTAGE IN EXCEPTIONAL COUNTRYSIDE LOCATION. DOGS WELCOME
Originally a small barn, Longwood Cottage is set in the most beautiful Herefordshire countryside. Rated as 4 Stars by Visit England, the cottage is single storey, accessed by a sloping ramp from the garden and car park. There is parking space for two cars. The spacious sitting room has a sofa, a cuddle chair and a comfortable armchair as well as occasional tables, a smart T.V, a DVD player and a small sound system. The views from this room have to be seen to be believed. The dining area has a table, four chairs and a sideboard and is located just inside the french windows which give access on to the sundeck where guests can relax and enjoy the scenery. This is a wonderful spot for breakfast, lunch or just sitting with a glass of wine in the evening. There are two bedrooms, both with windows in two directions. Bedrooms have been recently re-furnished, the larger one furnished in light oak has two single beds and the second bedroom furnished in beech, has a double bed. Both rooms have a wardrobe, dressing table, chest of drawers as well as bedside tables, an armchair and table lamps. The sunny kitchen is fully fitted and has a fridge, small freezer, microwave and full size cooker. From the main bathroom there are the most amazing views - truly a loo with a view. It has a "P" shaped bath with shower, as well as toilet, wash basin and drying cupboard in this room. In the hall there is a second cloakroom with a toilet and washbasin.
The garden has plentiful car parking and leads into Long Wood itself which is about 100 metres away. Well behaved dogs are most welcome in this property, subject to conditions imposed by the owners. The garden is secure and walks can be taken in the wood, the orchard and eight-acre meadow with its pond. It really is doggie heaven! A maximum of two dogs are welcome but please check if you have a giant breed or guard-dog type breed as we have dogs ourselves.
The most outstanding feature of this property is its location. Situated off a winding country lane, in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty guests can be in Ross on Wye, Ledbury or Hereford or on the M.50 motorway in less than 20 minutes. With outstanding views in all directions there are many walks that can be taken without the car. The two local pubs, The Butchers Arms and the Crown at Woolhope are known for their good food as well as home-made cider and perry.
The hamlet of Sollers Hope is situated in South Herefordshire amongst some of the most beautiful and unspoilt countryside in Britain. Surrounded by woods, orchards, farmland and rolling green hills, it is bordered by Marcle Ridge from where there are superb views towards the Malvern Hills to the east, the Cotswolds to the south east and the Welsh Borders and Black mountains to the west. The River Wye is just over two miles away and the historic city of Hereford is just over eight miles distant. There is easy access to many miles of footpaths including the Wye Valley Walk. The Forest of Dean is not far away where there are beautiful walks and many activities including cycle hire, horse riding, golf and accompanied canoe expeditions on the River Wye as well as fishing. There are many good country pubs locally all of which have an excellent reputation for their food. The nearby village of Much Marcle is the home of Westons Cider, where you will be welcome to take a guided tour and tasting. There are also many ancient churches, fascinating old houses, and gardens open to the public, as well as interesting leisure drives such as the Black and White Village Trail, or our favourite ride over the hills to Hay on Wye.
Our own private woodland, Long Wood, is inhabited by many forms of wildlife including foxes, fallow deer, hares, buzzards and badgers. Many species of birds have been recorded. Originally an ancient woodland site, part of the wood was replanted with conifers by the Forestry Commission in the 1950'2 and 60's although areas have now been cleared and replaced with native trees. We have several attractive glades which give ideal conditions for many wild flowers including rarities like Herb Paris and early Purple Orchids.
