It was very nice. But just lots of rules which is understandable as it is their home

Hi Amy, thanks for your fair review. As noted on listing, our basic house rules are set to deter parties and unpaid guests from taking advantage as we've had problems with this in the past. These rules are not unusual. In any event, I'm happy you had a comfortable stay and hope that your event was a success! You're welcome to stay again and thanks for your understanding about house rules.
We had a lovely time at this home while we prepped for my daughter's wedding. Enjoyed our stay and Anna was wonderful!

Really enjoyed having you and welcome you back any time. We appreciated the beautiful condition our home was upon your departure, thank you for that! Congratulations as well!
The house and pool were great and my family loved our time here. We made some errors with our registration and the host was very accommodating and understanding of our situation. The house was very clean. Would stay here again for sure.

We had a great quarantine vacation at Anna Maria's lovely property in Foresthill. The pool was a big hit with the kids and the house is located in close proximity to plenty of outdoor activities. Highly, highly recommended!

Hi Andy,
You and your family were a JOY to host, we hope you will consider coming again as you are always welcome! Thanks for your time in writing such a nice review!
Loved staying at this house. Pool area is great- always a bit of shade in various places through the day thanks to nearby trees. Yes, can definitely hear the nearby road, but that didn’t bother us much at all. House itself has a great layout, kitchen is well stocked.

Alexis, we loved having your family stay at our home. Thanks for being stellar guests by respecting and enjoying the house. We appreciated how wonderful you left the house upon your departure. We hope you will consider staying again as we would enjoy having you all.
The pool is great, the water was warm in June even though the pool is unheated. The host was caring and attentive. There is another residence right next to the house, so it's not completely secluded, but it didn't detract from our stay.

We keep coming back
Whenever we are traveling to the area we always stay here, 4th time to date, which says a lot I think. The home is clean, comfortable and relaxing. It has the amenities you need for a nice relaxing trip and close to beautiful outdoors. The owner is extremely responsive for any questions in prep for the your stay or if anything comes up during.

This is our second time staying at this property and it leaves nothing left to be desired. Incredible home, very well furnished, beautiful pool and outdoor area which my family took full advantage of the whole weekend. The owner Anna is an incredible massage therapist and has a studio onsite, my mother and I both scheduled appointments which were nothing short of amazing. Thanks for another incredible weekend!

We stayed with family from NY and had a wonderful time. We were close to the wedding venue and local grocery. It was wonderful to have a great place to spend our downtime away from the festivities. We had quiet coffee mornings, relaxed in the pool and ate barbecued dinner on the lovely deck. Enjoyed visiting with the host and sharing family histories. Would love to return again!

Perfect weekend getaway
Beautifully kept home, very clean, everything you need to stay there (including sufficient cooking needs, seasoning, condiments, etc). I have now stayed here multiple times and my favorite part of the house aside from the quiet location is the sectional sofa for relaxing with friends and napping! Owners are always responsive, location is close enough to conveniences you need but far enough away to be quiet and relaxing weekend. Pool is a perk after long days on the trails (running, biking, hiking).

The house was exactly as advertised and more!!! The pool was the perfect temp and size for us to swim, play, and corral our twin 2.5 year olds. The range in the kitchen was amazing. Plenty of space. Very private. The surrounding woods were a great back drop. Anna Maria was great to us!! We had a PG&E issue one morning and she was right there to help us through everything. Will definitely stay again!!!

Gregory, thank you for taking the time to write a review. You and your lovely family are welcome back anytime and I highly recommend any host to have you all as their guests! I truly hope you will come visit us again and my best to your family!
Came with my wife and 3 kids (18yrs to 3yrs) for a quick Labor Day weekend trip. We booked this home solely based on the in-ground pool with forest backdrop for a fun poolside weekend. Unfortunately it rained the entire weekend, which diverted most of our time to inside the house with the exception a few polar plunges we took in the pool in between rain storms. The grounds are very well maintained and landscaped, home is large, well appointed, comfortable beds and extremely clean.

Thank you for your lovely review! I regret the unseasonable weather we had throughout your stay but we’re glad you managed to enjoy yourselves. We hope you consider returning in the future!
What a wonderful house nestled among the trees. The house is very clean and comfortable. The pool was perfect and the owner is very quick to get back to you if you have any questions. The house has everything you need for a nice cook out on the grill as well as your basics. The only thing I would say to future guests is to take a fire stick if you would like to watch your apps like prime and Hulu etc. otherwise I can’t rave enough about this adorable home.

Mayra and her guests were wonderful, respectful guests. Highly recommend hosting! Thank you for the lovely review. We hope to host you again in the future.
Note that guests can now upload streaming apps on the TV and log into their accounts to watch their favorite shows. Also have Google TV and Dish.
This is a wonderful home, just off the highway coming out of Auburn. A gift basket of goodies awaited us on the dining table. There are loads of relaxing spaces and more beds than we could count. The kitchen is equipped with more than I could imagine.
Things that were terrific: We LOVED the unheated pool - it was perfect on the 90+ degree days we were there.
There is a short, but lovely hiking trail across the highway that takes you to a pond and through the woods.
It is easily accessible to everything in the area because it is so close to the highway.
What we didn't love so much: The road to the home is tricky to find from either direction even with the owner's fabulous directions!
And - because it is so close to the highway - it can occasionally be noisy.
So easy access has its limitations. . .
We used all three bedrooms with the four people who came -- but I think you could easily bed ten people in this spacious home! A great place to get away from it all.

I rent from VRBO allot & have never had a bad experience until we rented from this owner. Our daughter got married at the Forest House Lodge on Saturday July 17. We decided to rent the house because it was close to the wedding venue & my elderly parents couldn’t get up the stairs at the lodge. My parents & sister, her kids flew in from out of town. Plus myself & husband equals 8 people that stayed at the house on a Friday. However, then Saturday, the day of the wedding we were all gone, all day long until till 10:30 pm at night & then my parents went back to the house to sleep. The rest of us stayed at the lodge.
The day after the wedding Sunday, we drove back to the house & my daughter & her new husband who also stayed at the lodge. wanted to say goodbye to their grandparents before heading home. They visited about 2 hours & then left. We did not cook or anything. It was just a quick visit saying goodbye.
The entire stay Owner was coming out the door of her guest house which is 6 feet from the main house so you have absolutely no privacy, stepping outside to see what we were doing every second & asking a million questions & we explained to her my kids are not staying just saying goodbye & the owner verbally said ok. not problem. Once we got home, I received a charge for more money , for having additional people at her house on Sunday. She the owner insisted we had 14 people all at once, sending me photos of cars parked in driveway. We pleaded with her that the kids did not stay the night, she did not care. We said there were 2 cars parked Sunday evening. The owner Charged my card allot extra & we tried to dispute it with vrbo.
The house has wall unit AC it does not cool down the whole house. The plumbing is bad & the toilets wouldn’t flush properly. The owners are living on the premises 6 feet from the house , they will be all in your space watching everything. Taking photos of how many cars you have parked. Do not waste your money on this house!!! Do not be scammed
They are looking for reasons & trying to blame the renter.

Regrettably, our guests violated the maximum occupancy house rule. This places Owner's at risk for liability and possibly loosing their rental businesses as we must adhere to our local codes. It's unfortunate that they chose to leave a retaliatory review upon learning that we need to enforce our house rules. Please see the many, very satisfied guests' reviews that we have had the pleasure to host. Thank you.
We returned from our trip yesterday afternoon and I am sitting here the following morning still smiling about the wonderful time we had at Anna Maria and Scottie's property-- The Foresthill Retreat. It was just as advertised, plus some! Truly, a perfect spot for us and I couldn't be happier with the experience.
The property itself feels remote and private, yet it's easy to find, getting to a store is a short drive, and the road and driveway you use are well-maintained (no worry about having to use dirt roads or anything like that.) The house is surrounded by beautiful forest, so it's shaded and smells so fresh!
The house itself was clean, well-maintained, and everything was easy to find. The layout was just as promised and we were even pleasantly surprised to find there were two extra "beds" in the living area, in the event someone felt more comfortable sleeping there (one of our guests did, as he found out the first night that the friend he shared a room with snored haha!) A few things for others to keep in mind: the TV is plenty big, but is not a smart TV, so if you want to watch Netflix, Hulu, etc., bring a firestick. We did and it worked great. While the cell service is not great, the wi-fi worked just fine!
The kitchen had all the basics you need, we didn't notice any staples that were missing that you should bring. Nice spice collection! There is also an island in the kitchen that is really nice for food prep and socializing while you are making meals.
The pool is lovely. As mentioned, it is not heated, but we found it to be refreshing given the temperature (mid-August = HOT!) It's also plenty big and goes to 7', so even the tallest in our party was able to jump in and enjoy fully. We especially loved the back deck that is near the pool, as it gave us a ton of space to hang out and enjoy ourselves. We did our Fantasy Football draft while we were there together and made it a fun game where people would randomly have to jump in and it was just such a blast!
The BBQ is huge! Loved it! Propane, worked well, no issues at all and highly recommend grilling if you can because if you use the oven inside it can get a bit warm.
Finally, the hosts were great. I want to touch on this because I did notice a few other reviews commenting about them being on property. Yes, they were, but you would never know. They had the home unlocked, left us a note and wine, and we never saw them until we left. They really do respect your privacy! Awesome!

Michelle and her group were a pleasure to host! We felt appreciated and respected throughout their stay. I highly recommend any one of these thoughtful guests and they will always be welcomed back. This is the first time that a guest was exceedingly thoughtful by bringing us a beautiful bottle of wine with a lovely, heartfelt card. Very sweet. My only regret is not actually meeting Michelle due to wanting our guests to have their optimal privacy. Sometimes we miss out on meeting wonderful people! Hope they come again. Thank you, Michelle!
We had a lovely girlfriends getaway and it felt like we were out in the forest but only 20 minutes from a town! Instructions were thorough and hosts were up front about expectations. We loved being surrounded by trees and the cold pool water was lovely for the hot summer. The bedroom AC units were important and we wished we had another window unit for the main floor but made it okay with fans. We enjoyed the selection of classic VHS and DVDs - throwback fun! Kitchen was well stocked. This place isn’t fancy, but it’s comfortable and easy for a group or family getaway.

Thank you for a lovely review, Emily. It was unseasonably warm during your stay and so glad you were all comfortable! Please consider us again in the future.
Our extended family of six (4 adults, a toddler and an infant) came to stay at Annamaria and Scott’s rental and we had a great time. We mostly came for the pool (which is lovely and not over-chlorinated), but were all pleasantly surprised with how nice the home is. As others have mentioned, the photos really don’t do it justice! It is the perfect place to bring your family for movies on a big comfy couch or bbq dinners out on the deck or in the spacious dining room, and of course, for fun pool time. We did not leave the house once while we were there. It had everything we needed (once you hunt around in the kitchen drawers a bit), and plenty of towels for the bath and for the pool. The fridge was well-stocked with condiments- maybe a little too well-stocked as we barely fit all our groceries in (we prepared for multiple days!) Did not meet Annamaria until we checked out and she is very warm and friendly person. We took her suggestion to go to Oldtown Auburn on the way home and we had a fantastic lunch at Auburn brewery- even brought a couple of growlers of home with us. Really can’t find much to complain about. Our stay was comfortable and really fun!

Thank you all for coming and for leaving such a lovely review! It was a pleasure to host you. Forgive us for not introducing ourselves until after your visit as we wanted you to have complete privacy. But so glad we met upon departure! We really hope you consider some snow fun this winter as we would love to see you all again!
Everything you need to know is in the book where you find your keys. We had an excellent time celebrating my husband’s birthday. At first the proximity of renter was off putting, but once we enjoyed our schedules massages and met Anna Maria we were put completely at ease. We loved making breakfast and dinner in the kitchen and having the option of eating poolside. The house is fully furnished with everything you need. Although, I would never bother them, they would be willing to help with anything you may have forgotten to bring on your trip. Anna Maria is truly kind and respected our desire to have a private and intimate couple of days. As caregivers to my parents we truly appreciated the space and time together here. Schedule a massage! She’s good!

My family and I stayed at this wonderful home in the woods over 4th of July week. The owners were extremely friendly and responsive to our needs. The children loved the pool and we all appreciated being in the woods under the stars. The kitchen was very well stocked with kitchenware. The bedrooms were quite comfortable at night due to the window AC units. We had a wonderful time. Thank you!

Hi Menekse,
We thoroughly enjoyed hosting your family! We welcome you back with open arms anytime! Thank you for the lovely review and hope you enjoy your travel explorations!
I have stayed in many vbro houses but this was the worst experience.
-There is no central AC and it gets HOT. My daughter slept on the floor in my room because there was a plug in unit in that room that worked.
-The upstairs beds are extremely hard and the linens are cheap and scratchy.
-The owners stay in the guest house that overlooks the back yard and pool. And you see them often. You do not have the place to yourself, there is absolutely no privacy!
-They have notes everywhere asking you to respect the house, clearly they are uncomfortable with guests.
-They came over! Interrupted our dinner to complain we had too many guest over AFTER we asked them explicitly if our children and grandchildren could come for dinner but forgot to mention they had husband's and wives. (Who would have thought)
-The entire time we were there I felt uncomfortable. I was happy to leave. For check out we were extra careful to make sure we did everything they asked and that the house was in perfect condition.
-They charged us an additional $700 for breaking their honesty clause!!!!!
-I made a complaint to vbro with a response that I did not get permission for additional guests in writing so there was nothing they could do. I feel so ripped off and disgusted.
Honestly it was awful. I was there to prepare for my mother-in-law's funeral. But, the kitchen was so hot that it was hard to stay in. So I ended up doing all of the flower arrangements in the back yard at night right under there watchful and concerned eyes. (cut flowers need to stay cool stay out of the sun). And we all slept horribly.
I really didn't care to write this review. I hate having to think about this situation, and don't enjoy telling the world I got ripped off but I feel the responsibility to do so.

This is the FIRST time we had to confront a guest for the abuse of our property and exceeding the occupancy of our contract / insurance coverage and home capacity. All of which put us at an elevated risk of financial liability.
Having registered for 5 guest and actually having over 14 is a blatant disregard for respecting our contract and property.
We provide open communication for all our guest' needs and request as circumstances and guest' needs at times change. We denied your request to have 12 people in our home for dinner and provided you with alternative locations nearby to meet your needs. Nonetheless, rather than adhere to our denial for 12 members to attend dinner in our home, you chose to forgo our recommendation for alternative dinner locations and have a pool party of at least 14 people. Many of which were young children.
You had several opportunities to communicate your needs days prior to your stay and chose to request 12 guest just 10 minutes prior to arrival which we respectfully denied for reasons listed below.
Having an additional 9+ people unregistered at our home exceeds our limits of liability and legal capacity to house which is why have have limits on the number of guest' allowed in our contract and home. This happens to be the specific reason why we have the Honesty clause in our contract. By purposely misleading us and exceeding our limits of liability with the number of guest' we maintain the right and legal privilege to remove you from our property immediately. However, we did not. We crossed our fingers hoping nothing would happen and personally assumed financial responsibility if someone did become injured or drowned in our pool. I believe this demonstrates on our part a HUGE consideration to allow you to continue your stay for the contracted duration without having you removed.
We've done everything to try to accommodate you within the scope of our legal and financial limits and responsibilities.
We are sorry for your lack of integrity.
We are glad you wrote this review so other owners can be made aware of tactics some guest may purposely deploy in effort to take advantage of a homeowner and put them at a elevated risk of financial liability when a guest defrauds a homeowner deeming their insurance coverage null and void for exceeding home capacity and limits of financial liability.
We will not house this guest in the future based on our experience and suggest all homeowners to reconsider accepting this guest in their home.
As noted, we kept your $700 deposit for breach of contract.
Thank you !

Thank you for allowing us to share in the making of wonderful memories! This property is an excellent choice, we sincerely wish you a very pleasant stay. We are friendly, yet private, though please do not hesitate to let us know if you need anything special or want information on things to do or places to see! We are happy to help!
Why they chose this property
Various species of older trees on this beautiful 3 acres. My husband and I built this home in 1997 to raise our family. You'll feel a million miles away from civilization here but in actuality, you're less than 4 miles from town and popular venues in Foresthill and other fun things and places to see and do.
What makes this property unique
Our home is very clean and comfortable, and has a warm atmosphere. We've had countless happy times here and sincerely wish for you to enjoy it as much as we have! The bedrooms are quite large, bright and unique. As you step outside, again, wonderful spaces to enjoy. Refresh yourselves in the summer months by swimming morning laps in the pool after a nice cup of coffee on the back deck. Evenings are equally as beautiful under a blanket of stars with silhouettes of large trees towering the perimeter.
