About this property
Simply Elegant West Palm Beach Home, minutes to Palm Beach
My home was built in 1925. And has been renovated and maintained to the highest standard, while maintaining the charm and style of the 1920's. The "Pecky Cypress" front door is original to the house. The living room welcomes you, with gleaming hard wood floors, a mix of antiques and modern furniture, all done in crisp white & navy.
The "Florida" room envelops you in cozy warmth, painted in a custom Benjamin Moore color, that is a deep "stunning" blue. This room features a "60" flat screen TV, and French doors that open out to the side patio. Here, there is a new fire table, and "chat" set, with seating for 5. Walk along the brick terrace to the heated T shaped saltwater pool, nestled among your private tropical garden, filled with the scents of jasmine and gardenia.
The formal dining room has seating for 6, and has French doors that lead out to the "Loggia", a beautifully covered outdoor dining area with seating for 4. Step through this gate to the pool, for more al fresco dining.
The kitchen is newly updated with all new appliances and fixtures, and an induction range.
(Laundry room has a new washer & dryer.)
The three bedrooms in the main house are upstairs; the biggest bedroom has a king size, four poster bed, and is furnished in soft white, neutrals and pale blue, for a calming spa like feel.
The bathroom for this bedroom is next door, and features the original tub and tile from 1925. The shower head has been replaced, and the room has been updated with crisp white and blue "coral" fabric to create a fun "beach-y" vibe, without compromising the integrity of the era.
The next guest room-the "sea turtle" (navy bedroom) has a queen size bed, and is fashioned to look like a daybed, with lots of down pillows.
The "starfish" bedroom also has a queen size bed, and is done in soft white, with pops of pink & orange.
These two bedrooms share the "bumble bee" bathroom, which features the original 1925 yellow & black tile, a unique black octagonal sink, and black light fixtures. There is a stall shower in this bathroom (no tub), and a new shower head.
All three bedrooms have TV, new mattresses, new luxury linens, and 100% down pillows & duvets.
The Guest Cottage(Casita Lucinda)-NOW SLEEPS 4 Comfortably! This separate cottage, is steps away from the pool, and offers an additional 400 sq. feet. of living space; Enter thru the newly located door to the right, and what once was a tiny garage space has been converted into a gleaming white storage/laundry area with plenty of storage for towels, serving pieces, cushions, pool accouterments, etc. The cottage living room has been converted into a bedroom, with two twin beds, which can be pushed together to form a king(I received so many requests to sleep more people, so the twin beds have replaced the original daybed). The kitchenette, and bathroom(with a newly tiled shower enclosure), remain in the same location. The separate bedroom has a new queen size bed. The kitchenette has a stove, fridge, toaster and microwave. There is a breakfast "nook" with seating for 4, and there is a new TV in the antique pine armoire. This adorable little guest suite will sleep 2-4 people.

About the host
Hosted by Shawn Holmes

As you get older it is lucky to find a "new" path, one that has lead me to this home and a business I love. I had no idea when I bought this home, that less than 3 years later I would find myself in the "vacation" home rental business. It was really by chance. When my Mother passed away, I was lucky enough to have the money to Purchase a home. I had spent all my winters in New York for the past 20 years, and decided I had had enough...I wanted the warmth and sunshine of another place. I had never really been "over the bridge" to WPB before, having spent my childhood vacationing with my family on Palm Beach. But when my youngest brother moved to WPB, I mentioned that I would like to look at some houses? He found me this one! I bought it without even seeing it! I loved it from the 1st time I saw the photos. WPB is a unique place, and it has changed dramatically throughout my lifetime...The area my home is in, has not changed; Beautiful, Historic homes, built around 1925...But, now there is great shopping, art, culture, music, all within a short distance. The beach, the "lake"(people refer to it as the intercoastal now)...But it will always be Lake Worth to me! I love the sea, and everything about the beach...but, I also love the quiet of the lake, the bike path that winds along the lake on "The Island" is still one of my most favorite things to just walk along with my dog, Perlita. I hope to someday spend a lot more time there, but in the meantime I hope my "guests" will enjoy it as much as I do.
Why they chose this property
My Grandparents would spend the New York winters in Palm Beach, and they wouldn't come back up north until spring! My mother would send my brothers and my sister and I down on vacation, to spend time with them. Palm Beach was such a magical place, and I had such fond memories of those years, so long ago. So when one of my brother's moved to West Palm Beach, and I started to visit the area again, I discovered the historic districts of West Palm Beach, and fell in love with Southland Park & El Cid. I bought this home, knowing that I wouldn't be able to travel in the same "style" that my Grandparents had, (spending the entire winter on vacation) but, I hope to spend as much time there as I can. I love the area, the houses, the tropical climate, the beach, the bike paths, the quaint little restaurants...the antique shops...my neighbors...you get the idea!
What makes this property unique
The pool is what caught my eye originally...then the landscaping, the lush, tropical feel, and the privacy... the historic Mediterranean architecture... all reasons why I fell in love with the house... The hard wood floors, the fireplace, the original french doors, the leaded windows...all remind me of "Old Palm Beach", and an era when my Grandparents would have been living and socializing in homes, very reminiscent of mine.
