Nice stay with excellent views and privacy. Plenty of mule deer. Lots of birds. Saw a red fox. And could view Prong horns in the distance. Some nice restaurants a little over a mile away from the house.

This home is exactly as pictured on VRBO. The home is absolutely beautiful and spacious. The home was built by a talented artist. You will find her art throughout the property. The view of the mountains at this property are incredible. Peter was easy to contact and communicate with. You won't be sorry when you stay at this fabulous home.

Perfect wonderful and just right for us!!!
What a wonderful place for us to all come together for my nephews wedding, beautiful spacious home. This was my first rental on VRBO so didn't really know what to expect. We pulled up and it felt like home. Joan was there to greet us and show us the place. The patios were wonderful and comfortable. The views just beautiful. It was everything that listing said would be and more. The home was filed with art work and just stunning. I would stay here again. We have a very large family and we gathered for meals, games and just to hang and talk.

Thank you for the nice review Tammie! Joan enjoyed meeting you very much and I am very happy to hear that my pictures and advertising were accurate. This will eventually be my retirement home but til then we are thrilled to have such nice people coming to stay and enjoy it as much as we do. Thanks for being such great guests!
Best wishes, Peter
Our family of four rented this house for Thanksgiving to get away somewhere secluded and pretty, and we were absolutely blown away. There are gorgeous, unobstructed views of the mountains in every direction and the house has plenty of space around it for privacy. We absolutely loved our stay and even experienced visits from deer and a fox while we were there.
The heated floors kept everything nice and warm even though it snowed mid-week, and there's plenty of sun exposure during the day to keep the living spaces heated.
The house is very well appointed and we were able to cook an entire Thanksgiving dinner without difficulty. There's plenty of space to spread out and lots of art throughout the property to enjoy.
The property owner was very responsive and kind, and accommodated all of our requests for health and safety with regards to COVID-19.
We would gladly stay there again in the future, and highly recommend it.

This property is hands down the loveliest vacation home we have rented over the years. The setting is immaculate.. There really are 360 degrees of breathtaking views.. The photos are great but don't do it justice. The host (Peter Bartos and family) was responsive & very helpful, but otherwise left us to ourselves. Joan Hanley's art graces the home and exterior. The architecture is open, with lots of light, yet plenty of private spaces, and no shortage of restrooms. We came with two grandparents, and three young children in tow. Everyone had a wonderful time and would come back in a heartbeat. There's lots of hiking, art, and other outdoors activities in the La Veda / Cuchara area. Overall, this place is just a hidden gem for anyone who is seeking a bit of clean mountain air and a break from the hustle and bustle. I sincerely hope other visitors treat this place with respect so that the Bartos family will continue to offer it as a vacation rental.

Beautiful Property!
Lovely home in a small, peaceful town in Colorado. Large and spacious for our family of five. Seeing the deer and wildlife was a highlight of our trip. It is hard to come up with "dislikes" about this home. At times the internet was slow, didn't bother me, it made the kids read more. The home for the most part does not have Any window shades or blinds. This means bright sunlight streaming through the windows, and little privacy, although honestly privacy is not needed with the location of this home. I suspect this was done on purpose, as the home has breathtaking views from most windows. As a side note the downstairs part of the home (separate entrance) is occupied by the manager / caretaker? of the home. Didn't bother us at all, but maybe it would some....Lovely, lovely time, and definitely recommend to anyone wanting to reconnect with family, and be in a peaceful, quiet, residence, surrounded by nature.

Ricki, Thank you for your stay and the review. Yes I purchased all of the neighboring property lots so that no one could build nearby, and to intentionally preserve the unobstructed views and privacy. The entire property is 10 acres (4 lots). The downstairs was occupied by my mother, the artist Joan Hanley, who built the house. Sadly she passed away in 2019 so the basement is used only for art storage now (its unoccupied, but not included in rentals).
The property exceeded all our expectations. It was referred to as a Villa and it lived up to everything this name exudes. The property is beautiful and the views of the Spanish Peaks and surrounding area from the vantage point it is situated on are gorgeous. It was a wonderful experience and I would recommend this property without hesitation.
This house was amazing! The views of the lakes and wildlife were stunning, and the inside, artistic design was quite inspirational! We ventured out in a different direction each day to explore the nearby trails in different parks and enjoyed eating at the local restaurants. We will definitely be back!
We have family in La Veta, but we have found a beautiful home with incredible panoramic views!!! We had more than enough space to have dinner with our family and visit in style and comfort. We absolutely loved this property and all of its amenities!!!!
Beautiful views and enjoyment of the wildlife . The home was just as described but was amazing being there in person. Our family had a wonderful time.

About the host
Hosted by Peter Bartos
The owner, Peter, is the son of the nationally renowned artist, Joan Hanley, who built and decorated this grand villa. Sadly, Joan passed away in 2019, but her museum-quality artwork is preserved at the Villa. Her life-sized bronze statues adorn La Veta's public spaces, and some of her largest paintings are on display in the La Veta Library and Bachman & Associates Realty office.
Why they chose this property
Unquestionably the best views - the surrounding lots were purchased in order to preserve the 360-degree views and the unique natural setting. It's no wonder why artist Joan Hanley selected this spot to work to build her dream home and to create some of her greatest artworks. We decided to keep the house and artwork intact for future generations to enjoy this slice of paradise. It is a fantastic place to relax and unwind in all four seasons! The lovely town of La Veta boasts fine art, fine dining, friendly locals, mellow mule deer, and great outdoor adventures (hiking, fishing, golfing, skiing, riding, touring). Joan Hanley's gravesite is in the nearby cemetery and features a seated rabbit sculpture, and a stunning bas-relief of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
What makes this property unique
Unquestionably the best views and most luxurious accommodations in the area! Breathtaking nighttime views of the Milky Way galaxy in a near zero light pollution environment. Museum-quality artwork inside and out. Unobstructed views of the incredible landscape and wildlife in every direction. Custom museum-quality artwork and architecture throughout the Villa,
