About this property

Cabin Nestled in Pines-Valley View, Mtn Trails, Cucharas River

Welcome to our log cabin in the picturesque Cucharas River Valley, surrounded by San Isabel National Forest, conveniently off Hiway 12, Scenic Hiway of Legends.

Enjoy the charming towns of Cucharas & La Veta just down the road, hike numerous mountain trails, fish Bear & Blue Lakes, or put your feet up on the deck and watch the sunset over the valley.

From our snug cabin, recently updated, you will hear the Cucharas River rushing just below the property. We provide a plush full bed with adjoining full bath in bedroom 1, a plush queen bed in bedroom 2, and a plush queen bed in the 3rd bedroom, just across from the 2nd full bath. A fully stocked, spacious kitchen, large table for meals & games, beautiful stone fireplace and comfy furniture awaits. A full size washer & dryer are conveniently located between bedrooms.

There free WiFi/internet, a flat screen TV with cable, as well as puzzles, books and games.

A favorite activity is a 45 minute hike up to the spectacular geological dike formations just behind the cabin, where you'll overlook a secluded valley...take a picnic lunch and a book for a perfect afternoon.

Or take a brief 2.25 mile drive into Cuchara, where you'll step back in time. Enjoy live music at the Dog Bar or have an elegant dinner at the Timbers restaurant, play a round of putt putt golf or browse the shops for treasures.

Just across Hiway 12 you'll find trout fishing at Bear and Blue Lakes or just meander the lovely hike between the lakes. Drive up to Cucharas Pass, where the adventurous can hike West Spanish Peak.

A lovely day trip is 2+ hours to Taos for shopping, lunch, more shopping, and back to the cabin by dark. Or experience a ride on the old time Cumbres/Toltec narrow gauge railroad, also on the road to Taos.

Back at the cabin, relax and enjoy the hummingbirds off the deck, the sound of the river, and possibly a bear siting. There will be more to do tomorrow!

Why they chose this property

Our family fell in love with this wonderful valley in the 1950's and we are thrilled to now have this mountain getaway. Being from Texas, there's nothing like the cool mountains in the summer. Every visit we discover another treasure in the quaint towns of Cuchara and La Veta, not to mention the woods, streams and lakes. We hope you will too.
