About this property

Nice And Cozy Apartment On The Municipal Golf Course In Hilo

Our half acres property is located directly on the Big Island's only open-to-the-public Hilo Municipal Golf Course, in the southern part of Hilo.
We have our Main House in front and towards the back an 800 sq-ft Studio and Lanai facing East, with a direct view onto our garden and fruit tree orchard. Our orchard contains various seasonal fruits like papayas, starfruit, lychee, Jabuticaba, and more.

Our central location gives you great access to all of East Hawaii's various activities.

Just 7-15 min. away you have all of Hilo's shopping and dining opportunities. The historic part of Hilo Downtown with it's Hilo Farmer Market, Just Cruisin Coffee, and Ou Thai Food (on the farmers market with great Thai Green Papaya Salad), just mention a small few.

Just 10-30 min. away you have access to Hilo's beaches, surfing, hiking, spelunking, waterfalls, and the Big Island's great attraction, the Lava Flowing into the Ocean.

Just 25-45 min. away to the South, you have access to the Big Island's Volcano National Park, and Hawaii's Volcano Winery just around the corner.
And to the North, the Hamakua Coast's Hawaii Tropical Batanical Garden, Hawaii's only and very quaint Laupahoehoe Train Museum, and the incredible Waipi'o Valley.

Or just stay at home and go play a round golf, at the island's only open-to-the-public golf course, the "Hilo Municipal Golf Course".

Relaxing in Hilo!

Excellent accommodation in all respects. Complete amenities and excellent communication with host, Ingrid! We greatly enjoyed our relaxing days in Hilo. We now understand why the atmosphere is described as more "laid back" that the other side of Hawaii Island.

Nice accommodations

We had a lovely stay here for three nights while on the Hilo side of the island. Great location, close to all the major tourism sites and close enough to do a road trip for the day. Clean and comfortable. Having laundry available, en suite, was an amazing perk for this property and super helpful for us as a family. The owners are very friendly and welcoming.

Great stay in Hilo

Our stay at this property was fabulous. The apt. was very clean and comfortable for us. The unit was well equipped and we needed nothing during our stay. The host family was super friendly and loved our conversations with them. There was no a/c but the fans provided kept us very comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.

Very nice family oriented, shared home, but very private as well. Really helpful to have laundry facilities inside as well. Comfortable for the 4 of us. Would definitely like to come back

Hilo perfect

The apartment was more than we could have wished for, incredibly spacious, inviting, well equipped with everything, and hosted by a lovely Ingrid and her family. Centrally located near all roads to explore the island or a short trip to the best snorkeling spots. We ended up having to recouperate from an unexpected medical issue and it was the most comfortable environment for healing. We highly recommend this gem and we will be back.

Great host

We had a short stay due to medical on Hilo side. Our hosts were fantastic. The place is clean plenty of room, and we thoroughly enjoyed their surroundings. Close to grocery stores, hospital and restaurants. We will definitely stay there again when we have to go to the Hilo side from Kona.

We really liked staying at this property. The property owner is very friendly and informative. They live above the unit we stayed in. The property is clean, comfortable and well maintained and one of the owners is a contractor, so new improvements are being added on a continuing basis. The house is in a quiet neighborhood… but still close enough to be within 10 minutes of shopping restaurants, and entertainment.

Comfortable accommodations. Family lives upstairs and we had no issues with that. Hosts are very friendly and welcoming. By car, it’s approximately a 10 minute drive to downtown Hilo. It is a very nice quiet neighborhood with a Hilo Transportation Bus Stop right around the corner at the golf course.

This property was like returning to my childhood memories. I was raised on Oahu. I remembered the sights (neighbors, furnishings, streets), sounds (dogs, chickens, people upstairs), scents (plants & flowers) of growing up in the islands. Great friendly hosts. Good kitchen for cooking at home. Definitely would stay again. It helped that I lived in Hilo for 6 years so I knew my way around. It was like staying with family.

The owner is very nice and helpful. The apartment was as described but it wasn't mentioned that this is a housing unit under the owner's apartment. We also had a leakage of water at some point with bad smell.

We enjoyed our stay in Hilo. The apartment is the ground floor of Ingrid's family home, and has its own separate entrance. Having been to Hilo before, we didn't feel we needed a fancy tourist vacation destination lodging location, for a place to stay. So a simple and homey place, that was part of an actual home, in a suburban neighborhood, worked fine for us. It was cozy, clean, and comfortable. The location near the southern edge of Hilo makes getting out of town easier, when heading out to the national park.

Clean, comfortable, and convenient

This roomy apartment had everything we needed for a comfortable stay: a full kitchen and a washer and dryer. There is no AC, but none was needed (just kept the windows open and used a fan in the bedroom at night). Everything was clean when we arrived. Our host was welcoming and kind. We chose this location because it was within 10 minutes to a conference that one of us was attending in Kea'au.

We are a family of four. We have a daughter and a son. The house owner is born and raised here on the Big Island. His wife is from Germany.

Why they chose this property

This house is now 30 years owned by the family. It is passed on through the generations of the house owners family. The house itself is an old Plantation house style building. This means it is the old style they build houses here on the island 50 years ago. In the last year the house underwent major renovations and rebuilding to make it much nicer and also a little bid bigger. The location is a nice, secure and quiet neighborhood on the golf driving range. That makes this house and location as a vacation rental quite unique.

What makes this property unique

This apartment is perfect for families. We love it because it is nice and cozy. The view out of the wonderful and special windows in the dinning area show hibiscus flowers in different colors and different fruit trees, also pineapples and taro.
