About this property
Stay on a 350-acre Cattle Ranch! Brazos River! Tubing! Petting zoo!
"Amazing" - 360 West Magazine
Instead of renting a house next to other houses, why not stay in the middle of a ranch, with only cows as your neighbors! Enjoy true country living-- with wide wrap-around porch, grill, fire pit, and so much more! (Also check out our low weekly rate for staycations!)
(Includes a 42 inch tv with Directv)
Some Activities
- 15 min walk/5 min drive to the River (on property)
- Miles of hiking trails!
- Axe throwing at the barn!
- Horse experience for kids!
- Chairs overlooking the river provided!
- Kayaks, tubes & paddle boards provided. WE HAVE THE ONLY RAPIDS ON THE BRAZOS RIVER- which make for one of the most relaxing sounds in the world!
- Fire pit and wood provided!
- Fishing is good above the rapids!
- Grill is attached to a permanent propane tank-- no bottles!
- Visit the Barnyard and collect your own farm fresh eggs from our hens! Come meet (& feed) Dennis the donkey, his girlfriend Sugar, and all their barnyard friends!
- Visit the only fairy forest in Parker County! Build houses for the fairies to keep them coming back!
- Visit our Petrified Wood Laboratory, complete with magnifying glasses-- learn what it was like here long ago!
- Kids love the Painted Rock Station, where you can paint river stones and then hide them!
- Try your hand at roping- we'll teach you!
- We can set up a private cabana for you on one of the islands (small charge applies). -
- We can shuttle you up river for a lazy 2 hour float trip back to the ranch (small charge applies)
(A portion of your rental fee will be donated to Tarrant Area Foodbank for the less fortunate; last year our donation provided 12,000 meals!)
You’ll see deer, wild turkeys, birds of all kinds, and other wild things. After grilling your favorite dish, don’t miss the western sky as it comes alive with a million twinkling stars while the coyotes and owls serenade you.
YOUR HOUSE is a charming 100 year old farm house (two bedrooms, one and a half baths-- 8 beds) that we have updated—and continue to update, including the 42 inch tv with DIRECTV. It has a WRAP-AROUND PORCH with your grill and picnic table in the back yard--on the west side, the perfect place to take in the sunset in the big western sky.
BEDS
Master bedroom has a queen bed, back bedroom has 4 twin xl beds (two twins can be turned into a king with advance notice) plus a sleeper sofa in the living room.. Sleeps a total of 8 people. The barn next door with its 3000 square foot second floor has been turned into an indoor/outdoor space for all guests at the ranch and has sitting areas and rugs, and functions as a third bedroom with 4 roll-out beds for those (usually kids) who want to listen to the sounds of the night. Please note-sleeping in the barn is like sleeping outside as the windows have no glass. Bringing sleeping bags is a good idea if you have guests interested in sleeping in the barn.
Weatherford is only 10 minutes away and Granbury is only 20 minutes away; both have great restaurants. And this close to Fort Worth, you could actually commute and have a ranch to come home to at night-- note the lower pricing mid-week!
We offer discounts for weekly stays.
COMANCHE HISTORY
Go hunting for arrowheads and petrified wood. The COMANCHE were quite active up and down this part of the Brazos even when the earliest settlers arrived around 1850, and until the Comanches' eventual conquest by the Texas Rangers and their Colt pistols around 1870; we have found lots of flint and some arrowheads on high places here. Going further back in history, the Double F River Ranch has an abundance of petrified wood; they say that if you have fossilized sea shells you were under water, but if you have petrified wood you had land creatures. Hunting for petrified wood is a fun adventure here. (But leave them for the next person to discover!)
