Cabin Baleen is located in the back pocket of some of the best fishing Alaska and America has to offer. The fish range from salmon and halibut to trout and cod. Clover Pass Resort is walking distance where you will find charter boats as well as rental skiffs. Another mile up the road is Knutzen Cove marina who also have skiffs for rent. Laura, Alex's most loving wife, is also a great asset to your stay here, especially if you speak Spanish or Portuguese. Laura is a world traveler and great conversationalist. This vacation rental is a fully equipped home including a stove and refrigerator dishwasher, as well as a washer and dryer. There are two bedrooms with four extra long twin beds and 1.5 baths. I'm happy to share my extensive knowledge with you about all things Ketchikan which includes where to find the types of fish you're targeting and the techniques I like to use to bring them in.

We had a great time staying here. It worked perfect for our trip. The location was gorgeous and the host was very helpful. Check in and out was super simple and straight forward.
This house was perfect for our fishing trip. We had four singles So having 4 single beds was perfect! The house has pretty much everything you need to be comfortable, We stayed for six nights.
We had a great stay. I wish I had noted that there were no queen or king size beds in the house, but that was my fault. The house suited our needs, it was clean, and we loved the area.
Alex was super friendly, and helpful with some fishing advice. Even loaned some gear to help conserve bait. Baleen was comfortable, and a great place to relax after a day on the water. Will stay again.
The location and accomodations were more than suitable for our specific requirements ! Our host Alex was very friendly and attentive to our needs and when our group had to deal with some unforseen sudden changes . We would highly reccomend this property to anyone !
Alex was a superb host. He gave us excellent advice ranging from beer to fishing to places to hike and visit. His VRBO was exactly what we needed for the four of us. It was clean and comfy. His coffee grinder/maker made the best coffee! Thank you Alex for making our stay memorable!
This neat little place was perfect for us! It had everything we needed! The marina we were fishing out of was located just around the corner from the house.
Alex was a perfect host, had lots of helpful info for us months before our stay as well as during. The place is nice and clean, decorated in such a neat way with items native to Alaska! We enjoyed staying here and will stay here again if we ever come back to Ketchikan!
Convenient location for fishing trip and other outdoor activities. Bedrooms only have twin beds a full-size or queen would have been nice. But overall a great stay.
We fished with Alaska Fishing Company and they dock at Clover Pass - this house was so close and was perfectly located for our early mornings at the dock.
The house was easy to find and clean. The absence of a larger bed (only 4 twins) was a little odd but it worked fine for us for such a short stay.
It was so quiet and the drive to town was beautiful and didn't take long.
Perfect Location - Close to Fishing - Short Drive to Town
We had a great stay at the property. All was functional and working. Beds were comfortable and had plenty of rest for active days. Owner was responsive and a wealth of knowledge on activities. We had four adults and were comfortable for our stay. We spent a few days fishing and a few days exploring town and hiking. Highly recommended! Thanks Alex - really enjoyed the trip - just wish we had more time there.
The location of this property is less than a mile from Clover Pass. When we arrived early we were greeted by Alex who let us in immediately. Alex was a great host and helped us with all our questions as it was our first time to Ketchikan. The place was very nice and clean. I can’t imagine going back and not staying here. You won’t find another two bathroom place close to this price range. 5 stars on all accounts.
Property is very clean and well taken care of, and cost is very reasonable. Just completed our second stay at this property and will already be booking for next year.
WE ENJOYED OUR STAY VERY MUCH. THE HOUSE WAS PERFECT FOR THE 4 OF US AND WAS VERY CLOSE TO CLOVER PASS WHERE WE HAD RENTED A BOAT. ALEX WAS FABULOUS IN ANSWERING QUESTIONS AND HELPING US OUT WITH WHATEVER WE NEEDED. WE WOULD DEFINITELY STAY HERE AGAIN!
It’s a bit of a ways from town, but very close to several beaches and hiking access. Very tidy and well stocked. Owner is accessible but not intrusive. Fridge is brand new. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Great time, but cable was out and refrigerator did not work.

About the host
Hosted by Alex MacGillivray
Alex came to Ketchikan in February of 1998 under a contact from the local hospital from Detroit, Michigan and never left, once he caught his first salmon. He was hooked, just like you will be. Settling into the Clover Pass area, eleven miles north of town, to be closer to the docks and closer to the fish was a decision that lead him to open his property to the world and to share his love of fishing and Alaska to anyone who wished to come visit.
Why they chose this property
Clover Pass Resort and Knudsen Cove marinas are both in very close proximity to Cabin Baleen and both have boats to rent as well as blast freezers to capture the beauty and freshness of your catch for the time to come. But don't let the fish wait for more than 12 months or the freshness will fade.
What makes this property unique
Alex has an intimate knowledge of fishing techniques and all the sweet spots north of town as well as some high producing sites south of town and near the Canadian boarder. No matter if you're looking for salmon or bottom fish, Alex has the spots for you
