Second time renting in "Carnelian Woods" cabins. All was perfect except too early checkout (10am).
We take family trips to Lake Tahoe every year. This has been a pretty spot to stay at because everything is so close. The lake is like 5 minutes away in car but you could go walking as well. It was a bit hard to find the town houses. We did how ever had a not so friendly experience when we went to enjoy the pool we felt discriminated by the guy there when we arrived but other than that we highly recommend this place. We are completely satisfied.
Easy to book! Place was nice. Could use some updating like new cooking pans. The top one had completely rubbed off so we did not use them we cooked in the stainless steel pots. Lots of nice blankets and pillows to cuddle up with, the lighting was wonderful with a great view. An abundance of towels and the directions were clear and precise through email. Our family had a Joyeuse last three days.

The rental was quaint and homie. Plenty of space for a family vacation. Needs some update cookware as teflon was completely stripped from the pans. Hot tub was never available as is small and with children we didn’t want to impose. Parking was perfect, easy entry, plenty of towels and basic needs.

Reviewer Comments:
Great place- a little cramped for 5 people in the communal space but plenty of sleeping space. Only complaint was the railing on the upstairs loft- very unsafe! We visited with my toddler and the railing not only had huge gaps between the bars that he could easily fit through but it was VERY wobbly and felt unsafe to lean on.
Pretty area. Lodge is a short drive away with working hot tub and broken sauna.
Townhouse could not be any smaller. Two seater couch with 2 rocking style chairs. Not enough comfortable seating for adult family of 5.
Beds are old and uncomfortable. Loft room has 3 old twin beds that are noisy and you can feel the springs.
Overall-we won’t come back.
We had a great time during our 3 night stay at Carnelian Bay. For two families with 3 teens, the layout of this townhouse was just right. We loved being able to walk easily to the beach and swim in Lake Tahoe. We also took a 6.5 mile hike one day right from there without getting in the car. In the townhouse, the table was big enough for board games and shared meals. We managed with the seating available in the living room - a loveseat and two comfortable chairs. The kitchen is on the small side. Two was the max number of chefs and even that was crowded. The unit is showing some wear and tear - some stains on the carpet. One burner on the stove didn't work while we were there - the property manager had ordered replacement parts. The property manager was responsive and helped us right away with a missing extension cord so that one of the lights would work in the living room and fixed a toilet seat that was broken when we arrived. Bears in the parking lot was a real thing. We saw two different ones around dusk while we were there. So pay attention to the property manager's guidelines about co-existing with bears. One of our favorite parts about the townhouse was that the view out of the biggest windows was into the forest, so we had the sense of being farther away from things than we really were.

When looking for a place to stay one of the attractions to this property was the community area for my son and his friends for his 18th birthday ski trip. On Saturday evening we went to the community center for hot tub and some games. At 8:00 we were told by the manager that they were closing early, all the game room was already powered down! Not only did management not want us there he never offered any assistance and was noticeably frustrated we wanted to play pool, it was only 9:00! Come to find out the change machine was turned off and he knew that and his comment was “ I don’t give change try the machine but it may not work! My son ran back to the condo to get change and came back to a pool table that was also broken! This was to be the evening to enjoy the facility but in stead we spent the evening being frustrated and intentionally forced out of the facility.I will not be coming back to your complex and will be sure to spread the bad news to friends and family.

Reviewer Comments:
Overall our experience with this rental was ok, but slightly disappointing. The management company communicated well, booking and check-in was an easy process, and a minor issue with the kitchen range was handled promptly and professionally. Location is convenient to the lake and north shore attractions, but far enough off the main road to provide for peach and quite. We visited in the shoulder season, so expected some amenity limitations (e.g. pool closed); however, we were disappointed that almost all of the advertised development amenities were either not open or severely limited in hours. A simple inclusion of this info in the welcome email would have set expectations and prevented disappointment. The biggest factor impacting our experience was the outdated and worn furniture, kitchen utensils/appliances, and Motel 6 quality bath towels. The dishwasher was falling apart, the toaster barely worked, the random mishmash of kitchen utensils left much to be desired, and some of the items looked as if they had been in use since the late 80s. When we rent a place with a kitchen, we intend to use it and want the experience to be more akin to cooking at home than making due with leftovers from the thrift store. Did it keep us warm, dry, and safe? Yes. Were there positive aspects? Yes. Could you find a better overall experience in the area for a similar price? Very likely. We have stayed at many similar mountain town rentals across the west and unfortunately this was our least favorite due to the aforementioned issues.

Reviewer Comments:
I do not recommend this Rental. The listing does not accurately represent the condition of the unit which has a significant amount of deferred maintenance. Be prepared for peeling paint in the bathrooms, a broken kitchen faucet, cracked lamp shades, literal holes in the walls and openings in the ceilings plugged with tishoes. The property management company blamed the issues on an unresponsiveness owner and did not take responsibility for renting out this unit in an unacceptable condition. If you can afford to spend a few extra dollars l would highly recommend avoiding this place.

Nice place for the price, but could use some updating.
We didn’t use any of the amenities. Nice location at the northern end of the lake. As in previous reviews, the kitchen pans are worn out and need to be replaced.
This was the perfect place for our family of 5 to get to the slopes for a weekend getaway. Kids loved sleeping in the loft and we were close to sledding and ski areas. Thank you for a fun weekend!
The condo was dated but very clean. Perfect place for a family with two bedrooms and a loft for the kids. Two bathrooms made it easy for everyone to get ready for the day. We loved having the fireplace. Lots of extra pillows and blankets and a good stocked kitchen. We would definitely rent here again.

Reviewer Comments:
After the big snow storm in Dec, the rental we were on our way to, canceled on us. We scrambled to find a new rental and we were able to get this one. The place was a little out dated, but clean. Great location, not to far away from the ski slops. We had a great time and will definitely keep this place in mind the next time we go up.
The main issue for me was that the property management company charged me for insurance even though i purchased insurance from VRBO and i never agreed on purchasing another insurance with the property management company.
About the place: it is old and rusty, no essentials like shampoo and coffee. There was sand on the bed when part of our party arrived. It’s cheap, so the service and place is what you get for that price.
