About this property
Inchcliffe--Islesboro Island Waterfront Apartment
If you are a small family of two or three looking for a quiet and beautiful place in which to spend a vacation, please consider this unit being offered. Located in Mid-Coast Maine on the island of Islesboro, this waterfront property is on the east side of the island at a high elevation with a view from Castine, down Eggemoggin Reach to North Haven. A short walk down to a private, pebbly beach presents you to one of the most picturesque coves on the island. There is a small rowboat here for your pleasure.
The apartment sits over a newly constructed 2-car garage, next door to the owner’s home on a very quiet 10 acre peninsula. A private entrance opens to the staircase leading up to the apartment. The entire building is winterized with comfortable in-floor heating. High Speed WI-FI from a Fibre Optic system is available.
The one large bedroom has a double bed and a twin-size trundle bed. There is also a foldaway twin available. A full bathroom has been designed with stylish fixtures. A hair dryer is provided. Full-size washer and dryer (for use of the renting family only, please) are in this room. Laundry soap and linens are provided. The kitchen is fully equipped, including new appliances—stove, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, garbage disposer. Dishes, cookware, cutlery etc. are also provided. The living room faces east with a view of East Penobscot Bay.
Islesboro is a beautiful 14-mile long island in the Penobscot Bay. A 3-mile ride on the State of Maine’s ferry MV Margaret Chase Smith (30 car, 220 passenger capacity) will transport you from Lincolnville Beach to Grindle Point on Islesboro. In July and August a Sailor's Memorial Museum in Grindle Lighthouse is open to the public. The ferry ride is 20 minutes. The peak rate (June 1 - Sept.30) for a round-trip ticket for a car and driver costs $42.50, an adult passenger $17.00, a minor (6-17 yr) $12.00 and a child (0-5yr) is complimentary. Off-peak rates (Oct. 1 - May 31), all round-trip, are $30.00 car and driver, $10.25 adult, $5.00 minor and child $0. The last trip of the day departs Lincolnville Beach at 5pm. You will need a car on the island.
Folks appreciate the solitude and remoteness from the mainland which living on an island affords. Walking (the Islesboro Island Trust maintains several beautiful walking trails in various locations around the island), bicycling (we have two adult all terrain 18-speed Schwinn bicycles), beach combing, picnicking, swimming and kayaking are very popular activities.
If one wants to venture further out about the island, during the summer months the Horse Barn up-island is home to the Pripet Riding Program. In Seal Harbor, mid-island, you’ll find Big Tree Boating’s sailing lessons in full swing (at a very reasonable cost). The town of Islesboro supports summer recreation activities—tennis courts, pickleball, playground etc. which are located mid-island. There is a book store in Dark Harbor and the Town Beach (picnic and recreation area) is at the southern tip of the island. The Islesboro Farmers Market runs mid-June through late August. Also starting in June, the Islesboro Historical Society presents a full schedule of programs, art shows, arts and crafts etc. until the end of August.
Open year-round is the Alice L. Pendleton Library, a public library (with renter memberships available). A fitness center, youth and adult programs and special events happen in the Islesboro Community Center. The ICC installed a new playground on their site in the summer of 2019.
There are no malls on Islesboro but Dark Harbor is a busy village in the summer months with shops and a big favorite—The Dark Harbor Shop (ice cream and “the best” sandwiches). If one needs to take a day for shopping, Camden (6 mi. south of Lincolnville Beach), Rockland (15 mi. south) and Belfast (12 mi. north of Lincolnville Beach) are easy destinations.
There are two grocery/general stores on Islesboro but, as they are closed early evenings and Sundays, we encourage you to purchase food/staples on the mainland before your arrival to last you a day or two.
When booking, you will see that a 40% discount is offered for a month's (28 days) stay. What does not show up is a 60% discount for a stay of 1 or 2 months. A "long-term" monthly discount rate is also offered.

The property was very clean and host was very welcoming. The perfect weekend vacation.
Enjoyed watching the run rises from the living room windows and walking some of the trails around the island. The space is very cute and perfect for a quiet getaway.
I absolutely LOVED my stay at Elizabeth's charming apartment. Elizabeth made me feel so welcomed and was so kind to provide her daughter's bullet blender so I could have a smoothie every morning!!! The kitchen had everything I needed to make my meals!
Exceeded all my expectations! The host couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming! I found a delightful haven and a new friend. The cottage was my perch among the pines, providing true respite, while the island culture fed my soul. She and her generations deep family history tell the fascinating tales from Islesboro, ME
This is a lovely, cozy, apartment on a magnificent coastal Maine site.
Mrs. Hayden has prepared everything you need to stay carefree and comfortable. A nearby Maine beach cove is ruggedly beautiful and perfect as a summer reading station.
Mrs. Hayden is attentive to requests, and we enjoyed her company.
We confidently recommend this beatiful spot.
Absolutely perfect! The apartment is immaculate, well appointed and cozy (with wonderful radiant floor heating). The location and view are spectacular — Elizabeth has thought of everything. This is our favorite VRBO on Islesboro.
This was such an amazing place to stay! Elizabeth was so kind and thoughtful and the views were absolutely breathtaking ❤️ We sat at the beach near the house and found so many seashells! It was just what we needed. Thank you so much!
I don’t have enough words to express how peaceful and relaxing Elizabeth’s property is. The place was clean, had everything we could need, and the views were like waking up in a movie each morning. The island is great with plenty of pull offs to enjoy the view, or small parks to spend some time outside. I really hope we got an opportunity to stay there again in the future!
Elizabeth was so welcoming and accommodating even though our trip was booked very last-minute! He is a wonderful host who truly has thought of every detail as well as going out of her way to ensure our two year old daughter was also comfortable! We loved our stay and will probably be back soon! <3
This was the perfect home base for kayak camping on MCHT’s beautiful 32 acre Pond Island preserve located ~5 miles east of Inchcliff off Cape Rosier. I paddled across eastern Penobscot Bay and camped for 3 days and 2 nights on Pond Island where eagles were nesting, loons were calling and a great horned owl woke me one morning with its call. I had the entire island to myself all 3 days. hope to return soon for more kayak camping on Pond Island.
This was my second visit this year where the apartment is the perfect home base for my kayak camping trips to Maine Coast Heritage Trust's Pond Island Preserve ~5.5 miles east of here and ~1.5 miles south of Bakeman Beach on Cape Rosier. I love wilderness so I come here to become absorbed in it on both land and sea. This process begins the moment I turn onto the property's driveway and am surrounded by the beautiful natural environment the owner so tastefully maintains here.
Thank you Elizabeth for a wonderful stay in Islesboro! The Inchcliffe apartment is truly a home away from home. The apartment was clean, cozy, and had an amazing view. Everything we needed was provided, including a great selection of books. Our family enjoyed a week on the island and spent our days exploring, hiking, playing on beaches, reading and relaxing. We observed porpoises, and a seal right from Charlotte’s Cove. Our son enjoyed building with rocks in Charlotte’s Cove; he built dams, lighthouses, and bridges. We hope to be able to return someday!
Elizabeth is one who truly.deserves the outstanding host award. The apartment is beautiful, the view over the water and through the trees is stunning, and we thoroughly relaxed. It was off-season, cold & windy part of the time, but we enjoyed just sitting in the living room and looking out the large window. We also explored Turtlehead Preserve, and Pendleton Point on Islesboro - and don't forget to stop by the Community Center's Art of the Isle gift shop. Nice place, great Islesboro items. Island Market has a LOT of supplies for a small store (& were super friendly.) Thanks, again, Elizabeth. We LOVED our stay.. Take good care! -Steve & Regina
I am happy to give this a 5 star rating. Since this trip was especially for my wife - Visit Maine Bucket List - what she thought was most important. She said "it checked all the boxes". It was "better than the pictures".
My take - "Ms Impy" was a sweetie. It was a perfect place to hit the brakes, read, rest & enjoy the beauty. The internet (fiber) is really fast. Cell service is solid.
She needs to update her ROKU2 :-)!!! - & maybe get a newer TV. She will probably giggle when she reads this part. By all means, book it in a New York Miniute if you are looking for quiet, clean & beautiful.
This is one of the most stunning locations on the island, and Elizabeth's rental is perfectly appointed with everything one might need and not far from the ferry and one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. The unit is extremely clean, and comfortable. She is very responsive and probably one of the kindest hosts ever. I can't imagine anyone who would not absolutely LOVE their time spent at Inchcliffe. A magical host and place.
When I stepped out of my car at Elizabeth’s place (Inchcliffe), I knew I was going to love it. It exceeded my expectations. The view of the sea felt close to perfect. The place itself was cozy, charming, and impeccably clean. Kitchen was equipped with everything I needed. Bed was super comfortable. Stunning view of the water from the living room. Despite a string of drizzly cloudy days, I managed to get in a hike at Turtle Head at the tip of the island. It was foggy but still beautiful. The grocery store nearby had everything I needed including fresh fish. I was thrilled to be able to do a small load of laundry, as I’d been on the road about a week. The cove by the house is a great place to do some beachcombing. I could spend hours there. I visited in the off season (late October). There are no restaurants open on Islesboro this time of year and the only stores open are the grocery stores. For me, that was part of the charm. Loved the quiet! And of course, there is something special about sleeping on an island. About Elizabeth – I was travelling solo, and she made me feel truly welcome. It’s obvious that the charm of the place is a huge part of who she is. I can’t say enough good things about my visit. I hope to return and highly recommend this wonderful rental.
We had such a wonderful experience at this property. Elizabeth was the perfect host. The apartment is comfortable and furnished beautifully. We very much enjoyed just sitting in the chairs in the yard and watching the wildlife. It was so very peaceful.
