Spacious, light-filled Coconut Grove cottage with an open layout and framed views of a private tropical garden. This standalone home has its own address, electric, and plumbing, and is part of a lovingly restored duplex where the owner lives. This thoughtfully curated one-bedroom oasis offers an immersive tropical experience surrounded by orchids, palms, banana trees, Costa Rican hardwood accents, and the peaceful calls of wild peacocks who roam the neighborhood.
The cottage reflects a journey of renewal and the warmth of global travels, blending natural textures, custom art, and design influences from Europe, Asia, South America, Indonesia, Africa, and remote tribal encounters that shaped the owner’s connection to nature and community. Before the owner’s twin babies were born in late 2024, this magical setting hosted intimate boutique weddings, and its uplifting, restorative energy still defines the space.
Inside, enjoy a fully furnished, light-filled retreat with a Murphy queen bed, luxury linens, blackout curtains, dimmable lighting, comfy seating, books, Smart TV (no cable), DVD player, and Sonos sound. The full kitchen includes stovetop, oven, refrigerator, cooking essentials, under-cabinet lighting, and a complete coffee station with Nespresso, frother, French press, and drip coffee maker. Fast Wi-Fi, a dining nook, yoga mats, strong shower pressure, premium bath products, hair dryer, washer/dryer, beach towels, beach umbrella, and picnic gear make the space ideal for both short and extended stays.
Step onto your private teak deck surrounded by flowering vines, passion fruit, coconut palms, orchids, and living green walls. Enjoy the shared tiki hut with hammocks, the Argentinian grill, the hammock pergola, and the coral-stone fire pit—perfect for reading, morning coffee, meditation, remote work, quiet conversations, and evenings under soft string lights. The garden’s curated tropical greenery creates a peaceful sanctuary ideal for nature lovers, bird lovers, wellness travelers, and guests seeking calm and inspiration.

This property is also home to @MagicThePeacock, the beloved neighborhood peacock and a cherished symbol of the community. Brought here as a one-week-old orphan, he imprinted on the owner, and their daily walks united the neighborhood. After surviving a kidnapping and car accident last year, he now lives safely onsite recovering while he waits for the owner’s young twins to grow—soon he will be reintroduced into the neighborhood to roam freely again. Guests who appreciate birds, wildlife, and meaningful encounters often treasure the rare opportunity to meet this gentle, intelligent creature.
Surrounded by lush vegetation and the soothing calm of Coconut Grove, this cottage offers a rare blend of comfort, privacy, character, walkability, and soulful history. Close to beaches, marinas, parks, cafés, restaurants, and cultural landmarks, it provides an inspiring stay in one of Miami’s most treasured neighborhoods—a sanctuary reborn and crafted with love for travelers who value beauty, nature, wildlife, and magical spaces.

The property was lovely, and easy to find. Just look for the Peacocks! Everything you need in one space. Close to grocery amenities and Coconut Grove destinations.
We loved so much about this place. It was such a beautiful, restful place to land after a full day of exploring Miami. When we'd sit out on the deck, if felt like we were in a tropical paradise. I loved Miami, but I don't love being in the middle of the city so this was perfect. It was very close to everything we wanted to do and yet felt 'removed'. The host, Catarina, made us feel like we were staying with family (the good kind). She is amazing! When I travel, the bed is always a big deal for me and this one was so cozy and comfortable. We would 100% return to this special place if we find ourselves back in the area.
This place is definitely a little oasis in a big city. Very safe, quiet neighborhood, with an easy 10 min walk to some great restaurants and sites. I had everything I needed in the space and then some. Cat was very helpful!
The location and property are fantastic. This is a very comfortable, quiet and secluded place to stay. the neighbourhood is walkable and with many other activities short drive away. Catarina is the best host we have ever experienced. A super Miami experience!!

Thank you so much, John! It truly means a lot to hear that your stay felt comfortable, quiet, and special. I care deeply about creating a peaceful and memorable experience for every guest, and I’m so glad that came through. For anyone considering a visit—this Coconut Grove hideaway is my home and passion project, and I welcome you with the same warmth and attention I give to each special guest like John who stay here.
I stayed for almost a full month and it was great! The place had everything I needed to work remotely during the week and a good location to explore Miami and surrounding areas on the weekends. I found it to be an easy walk (15-20 min depending on pace) to the shops and restaurants. For me it was a nice place apart from the hustle and bustle but still close enough to easily get to the action. The description of the space and amenities was accurate and helpful. The host is very communicative, welcoming and friendly and I would certainly stay with her again. The property itself is really beautiful and well-maintained. The outdoor space was just lovely for relaxing with a bowl of fresh fruit or pastry and playing with my little dog. It is nice to have a covered space to sit outside and enjoy in case of rain. The peacocks are quite noisy so be prepared for that - but it was like peacock soap opera watching them during mating season, so very entertaining.
Cat's studio in Coconut Grove is the ideal location for a relaxing trip. Beautiful outdoor space, highly walkable location, and indoor space with everything you could need for your stay! We hope to return soon!
This place is a treasure. Better in person than even photos indicate. Tastefully and beautifully appointed inside. Gorgeous patio w palms orchids are all meals outside in backyard.
Peaceful beautiful place in the heart of the Grove.

So glad you were happy and confortable at home Joyce. It was an absolute pleasure hosting you both. Thank you for the visit. You will always be welcomed back.
We like to stay in places that feel cozy, like a home. The full kitchen has plenty of pots, pans and dishes. There were even frequent go to spices and cooking oils. The location is great for morning and afternoon walks. The parking is secure and backyard is private. Cat, the owner, is warm and responsive.

Thank you dear beautiful dream guest. What a delight to meet you & experience your charming being. Looking forward to your prompt return!
Our accommodation was quite unique. Even though it was a studio there was ample space for storage. Through the sliding doors was a luscious garden, hammocks and chairs for a delightful day outdoors. Of course there was a barbecue and a large table to eat outdoors. I am looking forward to visiting our friends and family and stayiing there again.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the fully equipped kitchen and the outdoor deck and garden. I'm looking forward to having you home again!
Everything was as advertised: the well-appointed unit, the peaceful deck in the back with tons of flora, the green and leafy neighborhood, its proximity to activities -- and the resident peacock. Caterina is the ultimate host -- warm, welcoming and accomodating. I highly recommend.

It was such a pleasure hosting you!!! All the best until our paths cross again!
My wife and I booked this with the hope we could find a relaxing destination that wasn't too far from things. The property is absolutely lovely and quiet, we enjoyed relaxing to a morning cup of coffee in the back garden. It's also only a ten minute stroll to downtown Coconut Grove and a short drive to Coral Gables, South Miami, and Key Biscayne. Catarina was wonderful, the checking in process was simple and clearly explained. We loved this place so much that we hope to stay here the next time we're in Miami.

About the host
Hosted by Cat
I was born and raised in Costa Rica before moving to the United States for my studies. Along the way, I've had the incredible opportunity to live in diverse places such as Germany, England, and Los Angeles. These experiences have shaped my perspective and fostered a deep appreciation for different cultures and lifestyles.
Having had the privilege of extensive travel, I've developed a passion for exploration, movement, and adventure. I feel it is a privilege to discover new destinations and immerse myself in the vibrant tapestry of the world.
Despite my global adventures, Costa Rica remains close to my heart, as it is where my family resides. It will always be my cherished home, alongside the vibrant city of Miami. The warmth and hospitality ingrained in Costa Rican culture have influenced my approach to hosting, as I strive to create a welcoming and enriching experience for each guest.
In 2013, left corporate real estate life to volunteer & explore some more. From the Maasai tribe in Africa to Amazonian & indigenous tribes in Colombia & Costa Rica, I sought deeper cultural connections. In 2021 a new adventure began when connecting with my own neighborhood thanks to an orphan peacock called Magic which was delivered in my doorstep and magically has brought our neighborhood together.
Thank you for choosing my vacation rental. It is an honor to be your host and share my passions and experiences with you. Please don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything I can do to help plan and make your stay truly exceptional.
Why they chose this property
Welcome to a place that holds a remarkable tale of perseverance and passion. Originally acquired as a foreclosure, this property was abandoned for numerous years, presenting a daunting challenge.
The journey began with the arduous process of clearing liens, a task that lasted over a year.. As fate would have it, I encountered an unexpected setback when the roof collapsed and the City, announced the imminent demolition of the property. Through tenacious negotiations, I was granted the opportunity to restore this dwelling to its former glory.
The true labor of love unfolded I undertook a complete gutting of the interior, while preserving the sturdy cement walls and floors. The transformation involving truckloads of soil to fill the previously overgrown lake and a dense "jungle" that once surrounded it. With unwavering commitment, every aspect was revitalized, from the fully renovated kitchen and bathrooms to the installation of hurricane windows, A/C systems, electric wiring, plumbing, sewer connections, trusses, roofs, and alarm systems.
Upon the completion of the project, I embarked on a life-changing journey to Africa, dedicating my time to volunteer work. Returning with renewed inspiration, I meticulously added the finishing touches, including a storage shed, beautifully crafted wood fences at the front and back, and an enchanting teak wood deck that seamlessly blends with the surrounding landscape. The outdoor shower and bathroom, adorned with bamboo fences, harmoniously merge with the local lush beauty.
Stepping into your vacation rental, you'll sense the essence of Costa Rica, reminiscent of the place I proudly call home. Experience the extraordinary at my uniquely restored vacation rental, where a story of determination and transformation awaits your arrival.
Book your stay now and immerse yourself in the beauty of my labor of love.
What makes this property unique
The most extraordinary feature of my vacation rental is the abundance of Costa Rican teak wood throughout. This cherished wood holds a unique story, as it was planted by my father during my childhood. Together with the help of my brothers, we carefully cut the trees and applied the exquisite wood finishes crafted by our family business in Costa Rica. I personally took charge of the flooring and meticulous details, while the original cement walls and floors serve as a reminder of the property's history prior to our involvement: an abandoned crack house and the neighborhood's eyesore. Brace yourself for a tropical experience, as you encounter a Costa Rican retreat in South Florida.
