About this property

Historic Home Comfort, Convenience, and Views!

Beautiful views from a three bedroom family home, with full kitchen, living room, and laundry facilities. The close-to-town, convenient location adds to the benefit of this accommodation.

We renovated this older home to retain its original charms, but also to satisfy our modern tastes and expectations. The result is quaint, bright, and utterly charming with enchanting views of Kachemak Bay, the Kenai Mountains and the Homer Spit. Every window at the front of the house - living room, kitchen, and laundry (!) offer the remarkable views we love so much in Homer.

This is one of two rentals from Alaska Holiday Homes and available on this property. Rent both of the units to bring a large group of family / friends together in one location (in all, 5 queen beds for 10 people).

I was born and raised in Homer, my husband, Kit is from Scotland. While I have never moved away from Homer, I have done considerable travel. Kit and I have chosen (in my case re-chosen) Homer for our own love of hiking, fishing, camping, and boating.

We worked in Bush Alaska during the school year for 15 years, I was a high school English teacher, Kit has worked as a VPSO (Village Public Safety Officer), alcohol distribution agent, and school bus driver, then, Maintenance & Operations for the school. We are now living in Homer full time and loving it!

Why they chose this property

It was the views of Kachemak Bay and the snow capped mountains, the abundant natural light, the close proximity to town and the feeling of home I got from the house. I know the Banks' family that build the house, and it felt so right for me and my son. Then, when Kit joined me in this life adventure, he brought his own skills to bear on the property. It has been his carpentry skill that remodeled this house and his love of gardening that has transformed the grounds (always evolving!).

What makes this property unique

It is the flower gardens are what will catch you eye as you drive up the driveway. The showy Sitka Roses cover the bushes in July. Wild blue geraniums, Alaskan irises, blooming abundantly are accented by the vibrant Oriental poppy. Delphinium and pansies (the Great Dane and the Chihuahua of the garden) mingle and vie for attention. It is all a glorious blast of color in our short summer. Most of these beauties were on the property when I purchased it, others have been given to us by friends and family (the Columbine and Chives came from my mother).

Then, when you turn around to look out at the view . . . the light peaking through the clouds to play on the calm morning waters of Kachemak Bay or the evening light bathing the mountains in shades of pink. Every time of day has its own charms. Cloudy days create moods with the light and dark alternating over the water. Breathtaking, exhilarating, calming and serene, on different days at different times.

We plant a small vegetable garden on the property which we gladly make available to our guests. If you are eating in, make use of the kale, swiss chard, arugula, a variety of lettuces, and this year a new addition, asian greens - they are beautiful! Pick lower leaves first and the plants will continue to provide all summer. Later in the fall there will be a few potatoes. Just help yourself.
