About this property
Historic - Private 28 Acres - 180° Ocean View! - Carolyn's suite
The panoramic view of Kachemak Bay from Turkington Estate's private 28 acres is one of the most breathtaking views you can experience while visiting Homer. Grewingk Glacier, Poots Peak, Gull Island, the Homer Spit and more; they're all visible!
Guests might enjoy going for a stroll around the property exploring the various flora that grows wild, picking a snack of wild raspberries from the raspberry patch in the late summer and fall, sit out on the deck and watch the sun set in the late summer evenings or read the diary entries and view photos from the Turkington family's adventures to Alaska in Model A's from Connecticut 70 years ago.
The Turkington's are 4th Generation Alaskans/Homerites and we love the last frontier. We're thrilled you stopped by our website to learn more about the Estate. We hope you'll choose to spend part of your Alaskans adventure with us!

About the host
Hosted by Joyce Turkington
Hi, we're the Turkington family. We're 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation Alaskans. Our father/grandfather Robert Turkington first came to Alaska in 1946 in Model A's all the way from Hartford Connecticut. The military was still punching in a road through Canada so that they could get vital supplies to Alaska to defend her from the Japanese who had invaded the Aleutian Islands. With his military permit granted to him to travel the road, he struggled through muddy mucky roads all the way to Alaska. He eventually made his way down the Kenai Peninsula to Homer and fell in love. He soon returned to Connecticut, married our mother/grandmother Carolyn and moved her back to Homer. Back then there wasn't much here and you had to be a real pioneer to make a living. He eventually purchased 300 acres in homer just out east end road where the Turkington Estate resides today. This is where we all grew up and spent most of our lives and continue to live and play to this day.
Bob and Carolyn's children and grandchildren now care for 28 acres of some of the last land owned by Bob and Carolyn. They are as follows:
Bob and Carolyn's eldest son and his wife
Alan and Joyce Turkington
Their eldest daughter and her husband Joy and Jason Huffman and their 4 children Braden, Riley, Kyern and Tegan.
Their Eldest Son Scott and his wife Hester Turkington and their Daughter Juneau
Their youngest daughter Treva Huff
And their youngest son Matthew Turkington
We're excited to share our one of a kind Alaskan experience and to help others have their own Alaskan adventure! If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact us! We look forward to you staying with us!

Why they chose this property
Turkington Estate is part of the last remaining acres of Bob and Carolyn Turkington's original 360 Acre Dairy Farm they bought. Bob first came to Alaska in 1946. He drove from Hartford Connecticut in Model A's and eventually found his way down to Homer. He fell in love and knew this is where he wanted to live. He soon returned to Connecticut, married Carolyn and brought her back to Homer in 1948. The Estate is now in the care of Bob and Carolyn's eldest son Alan, wife Joyce, their 4 children and 5 grandchildren.
Turkington Estate's B&B was Bob and Carolyn's home which the family has converted into a Rental for guests to experience this unique property. The home has been separated into an upstairs and downstairs unit. This listing is for the upstairs unit of the home, which gives you over 1500 sq ft of living space. It has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large living room, full kitchen, dinning area, laundry room, front balcony, and a spacious back deck!
The way the sun plays off of the snow covered mountain peaks, glaciers and clouds across the bay, you'll have a front row seat to some of the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets Alaska has to offer.
Grewink Glacier, Poots Peak, Gull Island, the Homer Spit and more, they're all visible from the Estate. Through the summer months it's not uncommon to see a mamma moose and her young stroll through the property, an eagle soar overhead in search of a meal or have a flock of Sandhill Crane land in the field and forage for food with their young.
Guests might enjoy going for a stroll around the property exploring the various flora that grows wild, picking a snack of wild raspberries from the raspberry patch in the late summer and fall, sit out on the deck and watch the sun set in the late summer evenings or read Carolyn's diary entries and view photos from the Turkington family's adventures to Alaska in Model A's from Connecticut 70 years ago.
