About the host
Hosted by Jackie Caddick
Our home was empty and unloved for 3 year's until we were lucky enough to come across it and have a vision of how it could be. It was actually the awe inspiring sight of a steam train puffing into Beddgelert viewed from the garden which sold it there and then! Being so close to such beautiful natural surroundings really inspired us to make sustainable and eco-friendly choices when renovating the property. Most of the work was undertaken by ourselves whilst living in our 42 year old Westalia VW camper with our family of 2 kids and 1 dog.
Why they chose this property
Having camped in Beddgelert many times over the years we knew this was worthy of it's reputation as Snowdonia's most attractive village. Nestled in the middle of three mountain valleys beneath Snowdon, the village is sat in the middle of some of the best walking in the country.
One of the main advantages of Hafody (Welsh for Summer House) is it's quiet position away from the village center and the main road - parking can be very difficult in the peak of summer so having a driveway for 2 cars is most definitely a big advantage.
We worked hard on the renovation to ensure that the choices we made were good choices for the environment and in keeping with our spectacular natural surroundings, using natural and locally sourced products where possible. This included natural welsh slate, seagrass and oak flooring and recycled welsh slate roofing. We support #plasticfreesnowdonia and provide ecological cleaning products and home made soaps, re-fillable water bottles and generally do our very best to avoid any single use plastics in our home.
We provide locally sourced sustainable wood for our fabulous Scandanvian wood burner too.
