I am a native of Groton and a retired Special Education high school teacher. My husband is in Fire Protection and we have been friends for 40 years and married since 2012. We bought the farm property from “Miss Periscope”, my 96 year old Mother who was a Merritt and born on the homestead farm next door, where my grandparents, Francis and Althea Merritt, operated the property as a dairy farm. When they retired, they donated much of the land to build Fitch Sr. High School across the street, where my three brothers and I attended high school.

Why they chose this property

We bought this home as the perfect addition to our adjacent 5 acre farm. Father Curry built this home across the street from his church, Saint Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Point Rd. We loved the stained glass windows he installed that were left over from the church. They were originally acquired from the site of the 1964 Vatican Pavilion of The New York World's Fair housing Michelangelo's creation "The Pieta". Both the interior and exterior from the Vatican Pavilion at the World’s Fair in New York were purchased and the architect, William F. Herman, Jr. of Mystic, designed the dramatic new church building around these acquisitions. Forty-two feet above the white arched and fluted roof of the contemporary styled church soars the pavilion cross made of golden-anodized aluminum. It is three dimensional and is easily recognizable as a cross from all sides. Thin metal needles used to catch the play of light lend it luminosity. The cross is an inspiration to those on land, on sea, and in the air because of the magnificent site for St. Mary Church. The stained glass windows, created by Jean Jacques Duval of France for the chapel of the Good Shepherd at the Pavilion, reflect an abstract interpretation of Christ the King of the Universe. The symbolic designs on the windows represent the Stations of the Cross. The reredos, the fan-shaped spray of walnut rising behind the sanctuary and changing form to provide the balachino (canopy) above the altar, and the testor, the ring in which lights are recessed, light the altar.

Mystic Aquarium and Mystic Seaport, Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods Casino, Bluff Point State Park, Fort Griswold Battlefield, and The Avery Point branch of The University of Connecticut are all close by.
Amenities include central air, a gas fireplace, all new appliances and a washer and dryer. There is free cable and high speed internet. 2 Bedrooms and a bath on each level make this a perfect comfortable living quarters for a couples. There is more than enough private parking on the 5 acre site for an army!
Minutes to I-95, this home is centrally located between Groton Long Point and downtown Mystic; Less than 10 minutes to golf, fishing, beaches, boating, hiking trails, great restaurants, and bars. A shoppers Mecca, Mystic Village and the new Foxwoods Tanger Outlet with 80 premium stores is nearby. Many major attractions and 24 hour nightlife at Casinos Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun are just minutes for 24 hour entertainment and gambling. Peaceful meadows with serene wildlife embrace our guests that want to unwind to the sounds of nature. The Submarine Force Museum, The Coast Guard Academy, Project Oceanology, and The Naval Submarine Base are a short drive within Groton, “The Submarine Capital of the World".
