Quiet 2 bedroom summer haven overlooking beautiful West River
This is a 2-bedroom, 1-bath ranch perfect for your summer getaway. The house is on a very quiet cul-de-sac, yet only minutes from Rt 1 in Guilford, the fabulous Town Green, shopping, movies and of course.... THE BEACH! The town marina has a boat launch if you have the luxury of bringing a boat on vacation with you. Lots of great shops, restaurants, summer fairs and concerts too! The house has a kitchen, living room, dining room, family room with television, 1 queen size bedroom and 1 bedroom with two twin beds. There is a screen enclosed front porch. There is a large deck overlooking the backyard and the West River. There is also a patio table and umbrella and Weber gas grill.
Although the house is a ranch, the family room is on a lower level (3-4 steps down).
Make sure you bring your binoculars to view the large variety of summer birds out on the marsh, including bald eagles, red-tail hawks and herons. Lots of great clamming areas including Trolley Road, Chaffinch Island, Grass Island and Shell Beach.

This was the perfect home for our Thanksgiving getaway! Our hosts prepared for a smooth arrival and easy stay while we were in Guilford. We were greeted each morning by lovely sunrises over the marsh and our dog loved exploring the surroundings. And we even made an apple pie - our first! - and it turned out great. Thanks again!
A cozy home with beautiful views, great location - quiet, secluded, yet convenient to all - we spent a wonderful week. Particularly loved the sights and sounds of the marsh inhabitants - rabbits, deer, ducks - and the bird songs provided a lovely soundtrack to our time spent enjoying the property.
My wife, dog and I loved our stay at this house. The views were amazing. Loved listening to all the birds and watching the sunrises and sets from the dining room windows. The house was very dog friendly. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook with so it was perfect for our needs.
We loved staying at this house. It was my wife and I, and her 14-year-old daughter. The owners are the best, and they are very accommodating. The house has everything you need, and the views are relaxing after a day running around or at work. This place is very close to the 95 freeway, and the downtown area has plenty of shops and restaurants. We will stay there again for sure.
Charming, comfortable house in a gorgeous setting. We especially enjoyed the dining room, deck, and backyard views of the marsh - perfect for bird (or bobcat!) watching - and leisurely walks to the Guilford Green and nearby restaurants. We also appreciated the well-appointed kitchen and spice rack. The neighborhood is lovely and quiet, yet only a short hop to Routes 1 and 77 and I-95.
Everything was excellent, plenty of room for people to sit and visit. The deck and screened in porch are a bonus! My only wish is for a footstool, something to put my feet on. I finally put a folded towel on the glass top table. That worked! We really enjoyed our stay and will stay there next year if it's available!
We stayed from 7/31 until 8/6. The home is exactly as described and pictured. It has wonderful views of a river and marsh where we watched deer, ducks, herons and other wildlife. The home is very close to many attractions and restaurants in Guilford including the beautiful town dock area and Jacobs beach. As we periodically visit the area, we will be using this home again as it suited all our needs. We contacted the owner Janet twice with two questions and she very quickly answered them. A+
Excellent experience. Location could not be beat within walking distance to Bishops, Post Rd. restaurants, the Guilford green while the view of the marsh was awesome. The pictures don’t do it justice. The home itself was very comfortable and well stocked with all we needed for a five-week stay. Though you need to bring your own sheets and bath towels. There were also personal touches that gave the place a homey feel. Only negative was very limited space for toiletries in the bathroom and the high mineral content of the tap water. We had our two dogs with us and they enjoyed the large backyard. Don and Janet are dog people and were very welcoming of the dogs. They were also very responsive to any questions we had. Would definitely stay here again.
Quaint cottage with beautiful view and well stocked kitchen
We had the pleasure of staying at this cottage for a little over 2 weeks. The view of the meadow and the wildlife was a pleasure to wake up to everyday. I am a bird enthusiast and the variety of breeds were truly impressive from egrets, herons, red wing black birds, osprey, and the usual songbirds. We also saw woodchucks and rabbits.
We cooked a lot and hosted a couple family dinners. The kitchen is very well stocked with an excelent grill, equipment, spices, and a few basic food supplies. The main bedroom had a very comfortable bed while the twins are a bit firm. There is more than enough linens and towels for our family of 4.
The proximity to all things Guilford was perfect as we have dozens of family in the area and our favorite shops and restaurants ie. Bishops Orchard, Big Y, The Place, Ashley"s ice cream, Guilford Green shops and restaurants, Guilford Free Library are all within 5-10 minutes. We would definitely consider renting this cottage again.
An amazing Fathers Day weekend for me and my daughter - first time out of the city since the pandemic began and Janet & Don's place was the perfect respite.
Its a very nice 2 bedroom cottage/house in a sparsely populated subdivision just outside of Guilford. The backyard abuts a beautiful marsh; the birdsong is constant, and lots of rabbits and squirrels to watch. There is a grill and table in the back, lots of thoughtful benches and seats around the property to enjoy. I loved having my coffee in the front screened in porch. Its about a 20 minute walk into town, past an old graveyard that's worth a diversion, and Guilford is a gorgeous place to stroll through, window shop, eat.
The cottage itself is really clean, pleasant to hang out in. Its small, but there is a dining room area, two living rooms, so for the 2 of us it felt spacious, and there are little nooks and crannies to read in and chill out. The beds are very comfortable, one queen and then 2 twins in the other bedroom. Could definitely have more people stay comfortable.
A couple of considerations, depending on your vacationing preferences. The nearby beach (beach pass available) is not all that nice, if you are a real beachgoer. The state park that's about 20 mins away (Hammnaset or something?) is supposed to be lovely, but we couldn't get in before it was full (Covid rules) and a lot of beaches in CT are private, so plan accordingly. If you are sensitive to animals, the downstairs TV room will remind you a dog lives here sometimes. Finally, its cozy and quaint, super clean and lovely, but its not "fancy" - just a great summer hang out.
The owners were very responsive, helpful, and flexible, but also not at all overbearing. Clear instructions printed in the house. Easy no-touch check-in. They made us feel like it was our place for the couple of days we were here. Great place and we hope to come back.
We were very happy with the cottage. It had a nice layout and was a good location for us, as we explored the CT River towns. You can walk to the Guilford Green from the cottage. We enjoyed the peaceful backyard view and sounds of birds. Would definitely recommend it.
This quaint cottage was exactly as advertised. I enjoyed the space, the comfort and the location. I particularly enjoyed the neighbors who were quick to say hello and chat. The location gives easy access to the Shoreline communities and New Haven. A short drive or pleasant walk takes you to the historic Guilford Green. And I loved sitting out back overlooking the salt marsh with. Long Island Sound in the distance.
This was our second stay at this property and we enjoyed it just as much as the first visit and stand by our initial review ("Great property for a working vacation in Guilford"). Whereas our first stay was during the summer, this second visit was over the winter holidays, and we found the house to be cozy in the cold weather and particularly enjoyed waking up to a snow-covered marsh. We will continue to look to stay at this property when we find ourselves called to the Guilford area.
We so enjoyed staying here while visiting family for Thanksgiving celebrations. The neighborhood was quiet and we loved having the school playground nearby to visit with our little ones. The views of the marsh were beautiful, especially at sunrise. So many birds to watch including birds of prey. Janet was fantastic and we can’t wait to stay again in the future. Our pup is part of the family and it’s such a treasure to find a property that is dog friendly! Thank you!
We spent several days at this lovely small cottage. It had everything we needed. The backyard faces a marsh with lots of birds. Very peaceful and relaxing.
We very much enjoyed a week at this property while both working and enjoying the Guilford area. The location is quiet and secluded but still convenient and walkable to Bishops, the green as well as trails in Westwoods. We found the kitchen to be well appointed and downstairs den good for remote-working during the day and relaxing at night. We also enjoyed dinners in the backyard overlooking the salt marsh and sipping coffee on the screen porch in the morning. Janet and Don were responsive and accommodating owners.
We enjoyed this property for thee nights on a trip to the Coast Guard Academy over New Years Weekend. The neighborhood is very quiet, but everything we were looking for was close by. It has a great yard that backs up to a marsh. Cozy, tidy, and well supplied.
A very comfortable house for a short to lengthy stay. Ours was 5 nights over Christmas. Property backs up to wetlands, providing a quiet and relaxing setting. House is conveniently located relative to shops, highway, and New Haven.
Immaculate, quaint cottage perfect for quiet getaway with the option for activity nearby
We had an amazing experience at Janet and Don’s property. I was looking for a safe place to spend Thanksgiving near NYC, with my out of state parents and our two dogs, and this was exactly what we were looking for. The house was immaculate, incredibly well stocked, and we felt right at home. You’re locate closed to nearby towns and shops, so you can tuck yourself away in the quiet house to play games and watch Netflix, or drive a bit down the street to find local markets, seafood, and the beach. There’s plenty of parking space, a grill, laundry, lots of yard for the dogs to play, and everything you could need in the kitchen to create a delicious thanksgiving meal. Janet responded quickly and left very clear instructions on the table regarding WiFi, keys, and amenities. We felt safe, had an amazing time, and this city girl loved seeing the stars and didn’t want to leave. Would be back HAPPILY and stay again! Looking forward to coming back in the summer!
