Charming Lakefront Cottage in one of the best locations on Burt Lake
This charming lakefront cottage on the east side of Burt Lake is available for weekly rentals in the summer (Sunday to Sunday) and shorter rentals in the spring and fall. The vintage cottage has a great open floorplan with two bedrooms downstairs and four bedrooms upstairs.
The featured attraction is the stunning lakeside porch which is perfect for watching the sunrise and relaxing in the shade. The screens on the porch were just replaced in July 2024.
The master bedroom downstairs has a queen bed and full en suite bathroom. The downstairs guestroom has a full size bunk bed perfect for two or more children to share. There is another half bath for the second bedroom and downstairs guests to use.
Upstairs there is another master suite with a king bed, a/c unit and en suite bathroom
There is another king bed in one of the upstairs guest rooms that shares a bathroom, "Jack and Jill" style, with another guest room that has a full size bed and an a/c window unit.
The fourth bedroom upstairs has plenty of room for 3 children to share with two twin beds, a full size bed and an a/c window unit.
The Great Room downstairs is perfect for hanging out as a group after a fun day on the lake with free wifi and board games.
The dinning room is large enough to sit 6 people comfortably for breakfast or dinner and there is another table out on the porch to sit another 6 guests.
We have a buoy that a boat or jet ski can be tied to, but there is no shore station or hoist on the dock available to guests. Boats and jet skis can unload at the dock, but they cannot be tied to the dock overnight.
Sorry, but we have a firm no pets policy, due to prior issues.
We have two Ring cameras set up outside the cottage in the front and back entrances for the safety and security of our home and guests.
The house is available for weekly rentals only. CHECK IN AND CHECK OUT ARE ON SUNDAYS ONLY.

Kitchen was well equipped. Location was great. Our family loved it and there was room for all of us to spread out. Enjoyed the screened in porch. We had a couple of hot days and the room air conditioners did the trick. Would not hesitate to rent it again.Thank you
The house was perfect for our annual family trip Up North! Lots of space and the screened-in porch is lovely and got lots of use. The dock is great - kids had a blast! Adults spent Lots of time hanging out on the dock. Great for swimming and paddling. Great location - close to Indian River and Alanson for groceries, putt putt and lunch at Bob's. Easy drive to Petoskey. The owners were extremely responsive and wonderful to deal with. Can't wait for next year!
We visit Burt Lake almost every summer. My adult children have been going since 1989 when they were 1 (twins). My husbands family had a house there. Anyway, that’s where that want to meet every summer. We had a wonderful time at your cottage. There was enough space for everyone. There was everything we needed close by. Thank you!

We enjoyed our stay. The porch overlooking the lake was the perfect place to gather. Especially during short bursts of rainfall. The lake is perfect for younger swimmers.Beds were comfy. Towels plentiful. Lots of dishes, silverware, pots and pans. The downfall was my expectation of air conditioning throughout the house. It was a hot week. In the listing, it said air conditioning.I thought the three window units were bonus units for areas that didn’t cool down well, but it looked to me like the whole house had air conditioning. Had I had any doubt, I would have inquired before booking.
Could use some updates, like a kitchen door that you can shut and not get locked out. Get the holes plugged to keep the critters out. Mice were an issue. Cleaning crew needs some work. A lot of cobwebs that have been there awhile and spider webs that a swiffer could take care of in a jiff! Looked like they don't spend much time cleaning upstairs. Hosts were excellent to work with and front porch is amazing. Overall we had a good week.
Great family vacation cottage. Our family stayed last week and had a wonderful time. Built in 1908, it is a beautiful, comfortable cottage with a large screened in front porch; perfect for having coffee in the morning as the sun comes up and cocktails in the afternoon. The four bedrooms with different sleeping configurations worked well for the 8 of us. The kitchen is well appointed and having 2 refrigerators is very convenient. The dock is very nice and everyone loved having the kayaks, paddle boards and floats. The lake was great for swimming and renting a pontoon boat. Two things of note: There is room air conditioning in some of the bedrooms, but not all and it doesn't cool the rest of the house when it gets hot and humid, which it did while we were there. Fans helped a little. There is a very nice gas grill. House instructions say to replace the propane tank (if you use it) for the next guests. We started to cook a late dinner only to find both tanks were empty so we had to run out to purchase one.Again, we had a great time, the hosts were very helpful and we wouldn't hesitate to come back.
We loved our week at Burt Lake. The house was perfect for. our family of 10 and was actually bigger than appear in the pictures. It was old but so charming Coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening on the front porch was a highlight. The dock was in great shape and the water was perfectly clear. We would definitely return!
We had a marvelous experience. The house was lovely, beautifully furnished, comfortable, tidy, and very clean. The screened porch was our favorite place in the house- it was perfect for reading, napping, playing games when it rained, eating meals at the picnic table, and just sitting and looking out at the lake. There were nice chairs and an umbrella on the dock, too. The lake is very clear, and shallow, so we enjoyed taking the kayaks out. We loved staying here and plan to come back next year.
Property was awesome for the kids with a clean and definite swimming area. Paddle boards and kayaks were a hit as well. Nice clean towels and bedding. Kitchen well equipped. Grill was awesome.
Old house with plenty of rooms. Wood floors squeak so it's easy to hear kids upstairs or anyone on the stairs.
Front porch was nice and we spent majority of days there. Would benefit with new screening on porch.
Host very receptive and timely. Would stay again.
The cottage fit our family's needs quite well. We would request a rental again in the future.
8 pages of "house rules" felt a little daunting though. The "cleaning fee" did not include washing towels or sheets used during the stay.
The floors under the beds were very dirty with a lot of dust. Some of the pillows need to be washed or thrown out. The broom in the closet should be thrown out. The house is beautiful and comfortable all in all
Cozy charming vintage cottage on the shore of beautiful Burt Lake
We had a three generation group staying at the cottage. Lots of sleeping options through the house. The great room and dining room exude vintage charm. The kitchen is small but well appointed with 2 large refrigerators, an excellent stove and very nice dishes and utensils. The best part of the house is the large screened porch overlooking the lake. We ate dinner there nightly and I enjoyed my morning coffee while watching the sunrise. The grounds are lovely and cocktails on the dock was a delightful cap to the evening. Wish we had had time to use the outdoor fire pit. Highly recommended.
We enjoyed the cottage on the Boardwalk I have been coming to Burt Lake most of my life! It is a great place to bring your family
Renting a boat is a must so fun to go to Hoppies on the water and travel through the river! There was plenty of space I particularly liked two refrigerators. If I had to find a negative I would say the kitchen is to small.
I would also suggest installing a combination lock or lock box instead of keys It is too easy to get locked out.
Thanks for the opportunity!

Lovely old spacious home on Burt Lake. After a somewhat distressing start to our lovely vacation - propane gas was empty when we arrived and owner was unable to get service until the third day we were in the house - we had a delightful time using all the facilities offered and just sitting on the dock or in the shade doing what families do when they haven't been able to get together for several years due to Covid. We had more than enough sleeping space so all of us including 3 teenagers had the room and privacy we needed. Like any charming old house, maintenance and up keep are a challenge and where we discovered issues we reported them to the owner. Shopping was easy and fairly close by. The kitchen had two enormous and empty refrigerators, one that made ample ice for our needs, and was well provisioned with cooking utensils and accessories that made our celebration of various family events easy. Overall it was a lovely 7 day vacation and adventure.
This house was great for our group! Plenty of space for everyone and we loved hanging out on the screened in porch. The kayaks and paddle boards were a nice bonus too!
We had a family vacation here...a lovely old home which has been kept up nicely. Plenty of space, 2 fridges (really useful) and the setting is great. Wish there were window coverings (shades) in all the bedrooms...toddler woke up early every day because it was so bright. Front screened in porch facing the lake is outstanding.
Love this property. Plenty of space, and very comfortable. Full of character. The home has a huge screened in porch that offers great water views. Family loved being so close to the water. Thank you!
Cottage was wonderful for family groups. Lots of comfortable sleeping areas. Wonderful screened porch. Lake toys - paddle boards and kayaks added to the enjoyment
Charming old lakefront property with plenty of room for a big group. We had 13 including 6 kids and it was more than spacious. The Park and tennis courts at end of the homeowners association was a nice additional activity area for the kids. Celebrated a 50th wedding anniversary and had some great photos taken as well. Communication with property owners was great. Location was also excellent with quick trips to Petoskey, Tunnel of Trees, Indian River and Alanson. Fishing would require a boat on Burt lake, however you can find shore fishing nearby in Alanson on the crooked river and at the Alanson Locks. Even though we did not have the best weather for late June; we had a wonderful time. Would definitely book it again.
We had a really great family vacation this year. Burt Lake is so beautiful! We enjoyed our time at the house. It had plenty of room for the 12 of us. We did find mouse droppings in our food on the counter and had a mouse on the screened in porch. We rented again for 2021 while we were still there. Unfortunately things have gone downhill since then. The owner cancelled our reservation with no explanation. I’ve asked why and he said everything was fine when we left and it was a VRBO glitch. I’ve requested to book it 2 more times with no response to my request or messages as to why he isn’t responding. Our distant relatives were there the week before us and had major issues with him which he then took out on us is my guess. I would be cautious when renting from TR. My one other complaint is that he deleted the House Rules from our message thread while we were there and re-did them without telling us. He could have explained that they didn’t properly lay out all the rules and guidelines so they revised them instead of letting me assume that I had deleted it. Thank goodness I looked at them again as we still had 3 more days there! Overall, we loved the house and location but not our interactions with the owner. We’re so sad we can’t go back.
Burt Lake is amazing and this home allows you to experience everything about it. Owners were very responsive and the home was as advertised. We had a quick issue with an air conditioning unit because a fuse blew (old house needs electric grid update) but it was a simple fix the next morning. Overall I would def rent here again.
Modernized version of the traditional Burt Lake vacation house. The location on the lake is perfect, and to the surrounding community. The 12 of us had a great time.

Why they chose this property
Kelly grew up going to Burt Lake and always had fond memories of spending time with family and friends on the lake. We loved this house as soon as we saw it. The porch is amazing and the boardwalk community is friendly and charming.
