Hillside house with stunning sea views from all rooms, just outside the magical town of Begur in the Costa Brava. The spacious family home is available to rent year round. Situated in a quiet, secluded neighbourhood with scattered luxury villas on a forested hill. No high-rise hotels nearby. Begur, a beautifully preserved mediaeval town, is 90 minutes north of Barcelona, and 45 minutes from Gerona, in the unspoilt portion of the Spanish coast. The three-story house sleeps six comfortably, and has two balconies and four sunny patios. The garden area includes a private pool and a jacuzzi (particularly welcome during off season lets). Sea views from the balconies are superb. Five secluded beaches are accessible by car, with the closest five minutes away. Five excellent golf courses nearby, playable all year round. Begur, with its charming hilltop castle, is within walking distance and has fantastic restaurants and boutiques along its narrow, ancient streets.

The house is amazing. It has everything you could wish for a holiday in Costa Brava. It's located very close to several beautiful coves in the area. Great pool, wonderful hot tub, and lovely views. If I had to mention one downside, the access to the residential area is via a very narrow two-way road, but once you've driven it 2 or 3 times, it's just part of the charm! Communication with the owner was super fast and he was very helpful! A fantastic holiday.

The place was true to the information given on the site and pictures. The location is great, close to Begur-center and surrounding areas -Palafrugell, other beautiful beaches, etc.My daughters and I really enjoyed our stay there, and would recommend it to anyone. If I had to mention an improvement it would be to provide some laundry detergent and trash bags.

Perfect stay, amazing view!

We very much enjoyed our 4 days in this wonderful villa. It has everything you need and the view from the balconies is amazing. The communication with the owner and Liz (from the rental agency) was very easy and fast. The only issue we had was dealt with in an accurate way. Don't hesitate to book this if you want to have a perfect stay in the beautiful area of Begur!

This property is misrepresented. It does not have air conditioning or on-site parking, two amenities that were very important to us. The Popular Amenities prominently note both are included. Beware: read the notes section carefully, which say only the top floor living room has AC. It is a 20-year-old, free-standing portable unit and doesn't work. We ran it constantly - the temp never dropped below 80F. All the bedrooms have only ceiling fans, which made for hot, uncomfortable sleeping at night. Regarding parking, the property manager told us to park in the space left of the house, but the owner's notes we received upon arrival say to not park there as the structure will not support a vehicle. We had to park a large vehicle on the sidewalk on a very narrow street.In addition to these issues, we found mouse/rat droppings on several occasions (never saw the rodent). Also, the pool lights and the lamps leading down the steep narrow stairs to the pool do not work at night, which meant we couldn't use the pool after dark.We contacted the owner and separate property manager regarding the above. The owner said the AC and parking were never an issue before, which I find hard to believe. The property manager said they would fix the lights, which they never did.This property does have a beautiful view and nice outdoor balcony. Due to the heat we kept the blinds closed, so we didn't see much of the view. Overall, this property was a big disappointment.

Begur Heaven

Jerry’s family vacation home was exactly like it was advertised, but much more breathtaking in person. Beautiful sunrise and sunset views that overlooked the Mediterranean Sea, rolling hills with spectacular perched homes, hikes and restaurants within walking distance. The poll and hot tub were a treat at the end of the day. Liz the rental manager was prompt and accommodating with all our questions.Thank you for a lovely three day visit.

Fantastic views

We had a great time in Jerry’s house. The views were fantastic from every balcony, there is more than enough space for the kids, lovely pool and jacuzzi. We booked it already for our next holiday. We had a very good contact with Jerry. The contact with Liz could be better…we send her a chat with some problems and she didn’t do anything with it unfortunately.

A dream stay on Begur

We spent a very pleasant time in this charming villa with a view on the sea. From the beginning, following the exchanges we had, we knew that we were going to stay in a house very appreciated by their owner, and it is understandable! For those who are looking for peace and quiet, everything you need to relax (hammock, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, etc...), and a breathtaking view, this is the place to be. Be careful, the location can be quite difficult to access by car since it's on the heights and by small roads, it's really worth it. We can't wait to come back!

It’s all about the view!

House was lovely….multiple stories with a sea view from everywhere. Enjoyed the patios, jacuzzi and pool. Quiet area during the week, but neighborhood got much busier on the weekend. Only negative is the drive up/down the mountain. Thought it was a little treacherous on some of the curves and switchbacks if another vehicle was approaching in opposite direction. Manager and owner were very quick to respond to our questions. But those views…..

disappointing

The villa was not as we expected. The views are superb and there are different areas to relax in. But it is overlooked from all angles ,the villa directly next to the swimming pool played blaring music and we felt we had no privacy and we looked directly into the villa on the rights outside dinning area. There is a smell of damp in all rooms. Not for us.

Well, I've had twelve years without a remotely negative review. I suppose I was bound to get one eventually. I'm sorry that you found the villa disappointing. That is very unusual, since our guests are mostly very effusive in their praise for our house. Begur is a very popular area and this villa is more private than most in the area. The fact that it is on a very steep hill gives it the views that you found so nice. But that also means that it is overlooked. I guess that guests should read carefully about the neighbourhood before booking. This is a quiet residential neighbourhood, but it is not a secluded site. If, however, you prefer something more private, there are isolated detached houses that are available at a much higher price in the area.

Beautiful location but villa needs work

The view from the villa is stunning, it is very spacious, the size of a family home. The pool and pool area were also lovely, a fairly new addition which was much used by our children. The villa itself however would definitely benefit from some investment. The old boiler stopped working on day 2 although this was resolved by the agents quickly by bypassing the switch. There was a constant smell of damp, especially in the kitchen, there were instructions to keep dehumidifiers on constantly in the bathrooms. We had to abandon using the main bathroom shower because it completely flooded the floor. There is a built in shower platform made of concrete or similar and the angle is off so the water floods out of the shower all over the floor. The only way to resolve this is to replace it which is why we didn’t report it. There was another shower over a bath that we all used instead. The villa isn’t easily walkable to bars/restaurants/beaches but there are plenty of all of these things within a very short drive. Begur is a lovely, buzzing, characterful town and really comes alive at night, a great atmosphere. There are so many beaches it’s a case of trying and finding the one you like best. We had a fabulous two weeks.

I'm sorry you had a problem with some aspects of our house. The 'old boiler' that you mention is not old at all; it was installed just four years ago. The problem, I understand, was electrical and was fixed very quickly. As for the shower, the bathroom was completely remodelled last year. In this case, I understand, there was a blocked drain (which can happen), but it also was fixed very quickly. Problems can occur with any home, but we are proud of how quickly we respond when they occasionally occur. All of the money that we make from this house is invested back into it. Every year we remodel one room or outside feature. Nevertheless, I'm sorry that you didn't find the place to your taste. This is unusual, as you can see from the high number of positive ratings that guests have left.

Séjour magique

Découverte de Begur et ses alentours, magnifique surprise. La maison est située un peu en hauteur, ce qui permet une vue juste splendide. La maison est très agréable, avec la piscine et le jacuzzi. Enfin, le propriétaire est adorable et très arrangeant. Un séjour qu'on retiendra (nous reviendrons!) Attention cependant aux enfants en bas âge, beaucoup d'escaliers dedans et dehors (surveillance continue nécessaire !)

We live in the magical Scottish town of St Andrews where Jerry is a history professor and a freelance journalist and Sharon runs her own media relations business, with clients in the oil, high tech and tourist industries. We have two children, aged 20 and 23. We love St Andrews because of its tranquility and charm, not to mention the fact that we hardly need a car. Our home in Begur is essentially a Spanish translation of what we have in Scotland, namely a comfortable, cozy hideaway in a quiet neighbourhood, near a town that combines cutting edge classiness with intoxicating historical charm. We love travel, great food and fine wine, interests which influenced our choice when we came to buy a house in Spain. The only thing wrong with our life is that we don't get to Spain often enough.

Why they chose this property

We had been planning to buy a house in Marbella, but were put off by the fact that it didn't seem 'real', but instead something manufactured for wealthy tourists. We happened upon Begur entirely by accident when Jerry booked a golfing holiday in Spain and had his accommodation changed at the last minute, ending up at the Hotel Aigua Blava, about 10 minutes from Begur. On the first morning, he was sitting in the charming square enjoying a coffee and phoned home to say: 'This is where we have to buy a house.' A month later the whole family came out to look for a house to buy. We were scheduled to see eight properties on the first day. Casa Buena Vista was the fifth. When we got inside and saw the stunning views, we quit looking. We had found everything we wanted.

What makes this property unique

Every time we go to our house, we love it more and congratulate ourselves on buying it. We love the fact that we can enjoy all the benefits of one of the loveliest towns in Catalan Spain, but are still conveniently distanced from the town itself in a quiet neighbourhood walking distance away. The same goes with the beaches - they are gorgeous, but it is nice being that short distance away, especially in the summer. We love our house because, the minute we walk in the door, we get that wonderful feeling of decompression and calm. We slow down, breathe deeper, and feel no pressure to do anything other than relax. One of the nicest things about the place is being able to sit in the jacuzzi, watch the moon reflected on the Med, and just let that warm feeling of contentment engulf us.
