Lovely air-conditioned villa close to sandy beach, shops and restaurants

Villa Francastella is available in the Spring and Summer for private self-catering rental.
This enchanting, well-equipped & spacious four-bedroom detached house, with its own garden, is quietly situated yet only a short walk from sandy beach, shops, restaurants and bars of the resort of Playa de Pals in the most beautiful part of the Costa Brava. With several beaches, fantastic snorkelling, golf and local medieval towns nearby, there is something for everyone.
The villa is built in the Catalan style, and is equipped throughout to a high standard. It sleeps 8 comfortably and has space to relax, within the house, on the large covered terrace, or on the lawn in its garden. It has a pleasant view and overlooks the gardens and pool of the Sa Punta restaurant, rated one of the finest in the region. The house is surrounded by scented pines and the immediate vicinity comprises an abundance of green in which there are other detached houses set off quiet roads with little traffic.


The area: Playa de Pals is a small resort set in the most beautiful part of the Costa Brava between Barcelona and the French border. It is mainly composed of villas set around a village centre, in which can be found the typical facilities of a beach resort. The beach is sandy and extends for a considerable distance. Within easy reach of the house, there are several small fishing villages with sheltered coves and, in a week, one can easily swim at a different beach every day. There are two magnificent golf courses, and all sorts of water sports are available.
3km offshore are the Islas Medas where there is an underwater nature reserve, well worth a visit (there are organised trips in glass-bottomed boats, scuba-diving expeditions, or you can hire your own craft and go snorkelling).

Wining and dining: Playa de Pals and the surrounding area have a great variety of restaurants offering Catalan, Spanish and French cooking. These range from cheap family restaurants to the exquisite Sa Punta, and are mostly really worth a visit (or two). The house will be cleaned by our housekeeper. She has difficulty lifting things. We would be very grateful if you would be so kind as to take your recycling to the bins opposite the Sa Punta agency.
Please leave the house keys in the key box where you found them.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.
In July and August the house is let only by the week from Saturday to Saturday unless by agreement with owner.

We really loved this house. The location is perfect 20 min from the beach and close to good shops. The host is amazing and was really caring for us, we appreciate that very much. It was really hot during our 2 weeks in Pals, so the air conditioner was really a must. We loved to sit on the gorgeous terrasse overlooking the surroundings and listening to all the garden birds, like the Golden Oriole and the European Serin.I can only recommend this house and the host himself.

Lovely holiday home at Costa Brava

The beautiful house is located at a quite street. Nice view from the garden. Sea is 5 min walk from the house. Nice small city center with good restaurants. We made lovely walks along the coast and great snorkeling.

Wonderful holidays

Our family has had a number of most enjoyable holidays at the villa, which, with the surrounding area, has remained unspoilt over the years. We have many happy memories of all the different beaches to choose from; Platja de Pals the nearest, but also Sa Riera, Calella, Llafranch and Sa Tuna and all the places to see roundabout. The villa itself is charming, with local shops within easy reach where we have bought our croissants for breakfast, obtained cash from the ATM and bought souvenirs to take home. When we've felt like spoiling ourselves, we wandered down to the Sa Punta Restaurant, three or four minutes away, for a first class meal and a swim in their pool, which you can see over the road from the villa. There are wonderful markets to be visited in Torroella and Palafrugell and local towns and villages such as Pals, Peratallada and Begur to be explored. This is a truly wonderful base from which to discover or revisit this part of the Costa Brava.

Wir hatten einen sehr angenehmen Aufenthalt in der Villa und ich möchte Herrn Lilley für diese Möglichkeit und die nette Kommunikation danken. Alle Formalitäten verliefen reibungslos. Einige Dinge erforderten ein wenig Eingewöhnung, wie zum Beispiel die Müllentsorgung, aber dazu gab es Anleitungen im Haus.Die Villa ist nicht besonders groß, aber für bis zu 8 Personen gut geeignet. Wir waren zwei Familien mit insgesamt drei Kindern im Alter zwischen 9 und 14 Jahren. Die Villa befindet sich in einer eher ruhigen Straße mit schöner, wenn auch nicht außergewöhnlicher Aussicht (kein Meerblick). Die Terrasse ist von der Straße aus kaum einsehbar und wirkt angenehm abgeschieden (im positiven Sinne).Die Villa ist mit allem ausgestattet, was man braucht: Bettwäsche, Handtücher, sämtliches Kochzubehör, Geschirr und Besteck, Geschirrspüler und Waschmaschine. Drei Schlafzimmer befinden sich im Erdgeschoss, ein weiteres Schlafzimmer im Obergeschoss mit separatem Eingang von außen – je nach Situation kann das als Vorteil oder Nachteil empfunden werden.Die Villa ist nicht modern, hat aber definitiv seinen eigenen Charme.Geschäfte und Restaurants befinden sich in etwa 500 m Entfernung. Die Strände sind weniger als 1 km entfernt, erfordern aber etwas Mühe, besonders auf dem Rückweg, da es bergauf geht.Platja del Racó und Platja de l’Illa Roja (FKK) sind weniger überlaufen als Strände in den Ortschaften wie z.B. in Tamariu. Die Strände sind Sandstrände, aber grobkörnig.

Great place, great time!

We hebben een heerlijke tijd gehad in dit gezinshuis. Alles is aanwezig om er prettig te verblijven. Locatie is mooi en met 10 minuten lopen naar het strand (15 terug, berg op ) geweldig!! Fijn buiten terras ook!! Makkelijk contact met de eigenaar bij vragen en toen er even iets gerepareerd moest worden. Bedankt Frank! . worden.

Leuk huis op een mooie plek

Eén kamer van het huis is niet vanuit het huis te bereiken maar buitenom. Dat heeft voor en nadelen. Het huis ligt op een mooie rustige plek; niet te dichtbij het strand maar ook niet te ver weg. Eigenaar heeft een mooi boekwerk gemaakt over de omgeving; welk strand je bij welke wind het beste kan zitten en welke restaurants en plaatsjes hij aanbeveelt.

Un très bon séjour

Maison très agréable et calme située dans une très jolie région. À 10 min à pied d une très belle plage de sable avec eau cristalline. Les échanges avec le propriétaire, Frank, sont toujours très agréables et rapides. Seuls le nettoyage de la maison et la literie pourraient être améliorés. Perfect base camp to enjoy beachlife and/or explore Costa Brava

A well laid out house with all facilities including a garden. No pool but the sea is close by. The house is located in a calm neighbourhood and you can park your car and walk to the beach, the shops and restaurant.

Lovely House - Relaxing holiday

Four of us spent a lovely relaxing week here in July. Weather was very hot which made the hill climb back to the villa very exhausting. Resort is pretty quiet so a car would be useful. Mosquito nets were a god send! Overall a most relaxing holiday and I would happily recommend to others.

lovely position, in need of updating

The Villa Francastella is set in a lovely position amongst pine trees with a nice patio area. The following list is what we consider problematic: 1/ On arrival all the patio furniture was piled into the living space, it was very dirty and all had to be washed, and the patio swept. 2/ We bought a pizza as a quick supper when we arrived, the oven was filthy and smoked as it heated up. 3/ There wasn't a light in the bathroom so a small bedside lamp was plugged in. Later in the week the bulb blew and we couldn't find any spare bulbs . 4/ The kettle spout is rusty. 5/ All surfaces were dirty and had to be cleaned. 6/ There was a half empty vase of water with dead leaves lying around its base. 7/ We had to pay for bedding and towels. The bedding needs replacing it is very old and unappealing. 8/ Floors were sticky and in need of a good wash. 9/We were provided with one tea towel and no hand towels, no kitchen towel, no bin bags and about half a toilet roll. 10/ On the villa description it states that there is no wifi so I didn't take my iPad and purchased a Portable DVD player for £50. On arrival we discovered that there is wifi, rather annoying. 11/ Mattresses are worn and uncomfortable. This the first time I have ever felt cause to complain about accommodation. For a small investment this could be a very nice property. This is a beautiful part of Spain and I have visited it many times but sorry to say that I wouldn't stay at this villa again.

We arrange for the house to be cleaned before and after every stay. Unfortunately for this guest, on this occasion our cleaning lady was away, and clearly the temporary cleaner did not do her job. We advise our guests to contact us immediately if there is a problem, in which case we do everything we can to resolve it quickly and to their satisfaction. This guest did not inform us that anything was unsatisfactory, until leaving this review, and so did not give us the opportunity to put things right.

Amazing Villa with great garden and very well connected with the local beaches and shops.

We have arrived at the Villa and were nicely surprised with a bottle of Champlain waiting for our us. Everything was as described, and Frank has put a lot of effort for preparing detailed local guidance. In walking distance you have got access to beaches, amazing cliffs (some of them that you can go on) and crystal clear water. We came after season where most restaurants and shops were closed, however within 10 minutes drive you get local supermarket with almost everything you need. Weather was still great at 22-24 Celsius and nights about 14-16. Perfect for me. I strongly recommend it for anyone who is looking for affordable yet very well equipped Villa. Costa Brava is amazing place to go.

Idéalement située, la maison est très fonctionnelle. Reposante, au calme, l'odeur des pins vous titille au réveil avec le chant des oiseaux. Le petit jardin est très agréable et très bien entretenu. Commerces et plage à proximité à pied ou en vélo, parfait avec des enfants. Nous avons passé de super vacances en famille !

We have just come back from what I would call one of the best holidays I have ever had. Being September we weren't entirely sure what the weather would be like but it was absolutely beautiful- we were lucky enough to venture to all the surrounding beaches and have a casual drink in the sun. The villa was lovely- real character and cosy beds. The bbq was fab- burgers, kebabs, fish- we all agreed it was one of the best bbqs we've had. Unfortunately being out of season not all of the shops were open but the bars and restaurants down at the local beach were fantastic and very friendly staff! All in all one of the most relaxing and fantastic holidays I have had. Would definitely recommend! Thanks again! x

Lovely place

Third time at this property and just as good as ever. Sitting outside in the evening with the built-in BBQ sizzling away with freshly-caught tuna steaks and sipping the local Cava, listening to the buzzing of the circadas was a wonderful way to leave behind the rigors of UK life. The house is simple but clean, amply spacious and comfortable and in great position for walking down to the local beach and excellent beach restaurant, one of many terrific eating places in the area. There are lovely walks along the coast, many great beaches and little coves in easy reach. The wine festival at Pals was a definite plus this year with lots of laughter and quaffing. A lovely place to come back to again and again.

One of the lovely places!

Getting away this summer, this was a lovely place to rest, relax and blow away the cobwebs. Sitting outside in the late evening, with the built in BBQ blasting away with fresh tuna steaks balanced by the local Cava, listening to the cicadas buzzing away in the background, you were able to leave behind riots and work in the UK! I found the property to be simple but clean and straighforward, comfortable and well equipped. The area is fantastic with great walks along the coast, good restaurants all over the place and great swimming on the many local beaches. The Pals wine festival was a big plus with much laughter and quaffing. Having been in the area before even as late as the last week of October, it is somewhere I would keep coming back to anytime.

In 1984, Frank and Judy bought the plot of land opposite restaurant Sa Punta and, recklessly, commissioned Spanish builders to construct a villa. They did this in a way that surpassed our expectations and completed it in time for us to spend our wedding night in it, the first time we saw it finished. Since then we, and now our children and grandchildren, have been back every year for our main summer holiday and many other short stays. It is truly our home from home.

Why they chose this property

For Spain, it was a short lunch, only three hours. This was business. By the end of it, I had agreed to buy a plot of land and have a house built, not a hundred yards from the restaurant. I had also begun to understand how the concept of “siesta” had been raised to the level of an art form in this part of the world. It was only a mild surprise, waking up reasonably sober the next morning, to find that the whole thing still seemed a good idea. Admittedly it was my first visit to Spain, but no-one could call this impulsive: I had been in the country three days by now, almost an old hand.
Three decades later, we and our children have never missed a holiday in the house and area we have fallen in love with. We hope you enjoy your stay as much as we do.

What makes this property unique

You will find that the villa has the advantages of quiet location with little traffic, not overlooked, yet within a few minutes' walk of shops, bars, restaurants and beach. A typical day may start with a stroll to the local shop to buy hot bread and croissants for breakfast, then a heated argument as to which of a dozen beaches to choose, three within walking distance and the others within a 20 minute drive. Lunch in the shade under the covered terrace may be followed by a siesta on the lawn, then off to another beach. In the evening, tapas are taken while the built-in BBQ on the terrace cooks a variety of meats, seafood and fish. Drinks and playing cards go on until, suddenly, it is midnight.
