Apartment in Beautifully Restored Medieval Tuscan Village, 7klm from Volterra
The beautiful restoration of this small complex of four buildings, containing 24 high quality private apartments and a swimming pool of uniform depth, 14x7m, took place in 2008. The architecture and design of Podere le Volpaie has followed the traditional local style. It contains beamed and tiled ceilings, terracotta tiled floors, loggia style balconies, and a stone exterior. The original farm shape, with four buildings around a well and courtyard, has been preserved. Apartment B6 has one king-size and one twin bedroom, two bathrooms, and is located on the top two floors of a 4 storey building, reached by a private stone staircase. With a 360 degree panorama of rolling Tuscan hills, it nestles tranquilly, 7klm beneath the beautiful and historic town of Volterra, famed for its alabaster work and 4km below the charming Etruscan village of Montecatini Val de Cecina, with easy access to Pisa, Sienna, Florence, San Gimignano and the sea. The communal pool is available from mid May until the end of September.

the location is excellent, property is little old but maintained well, Mrs Freda Garrahan is very friendly and nice. If I go to Tuscany again I will prefer to be there
Stunning location, great for exploring Volterra and the region. We ate out well each night, supermarkets nearby if needed.
The property is beautiful and full of Tuscan charm. The pool provided a welcome break from the heat!
Would definitely recommend- thank you for letting us stay!

Thanks Andrea. We are glad you enjoyed it, and loved it as much as we do.
Stunning location, simple but very beautiful medieval buildings, charming property, a wonderful pool with an amazing view. Even though there are many apartment units on the property it never got crowded.

A wonderful holiday
We stayed at the property for 7 days, clearly not long enough, stunning location with fantastic views. The accommodation had everything that we needed, would love to return.
There was only a swimming pool onsite but that`s all it needed, very peaceful location. We had lovely days out in the surrounding area including Florence and Pisa which were not to far away. Volterra was beautiful. The local town of Saline de Volterra is only 3 kms away and there is a wonderful restaurant 5 minutes away in view of the property, lovely sunset while dining.
The owners provided good communication and the property was very well maintained, anyone staying here would not be disappointed, a fantastic place to stay.

Schmutziges Appartment in traumhafter Anlage

Fantastic place
A really nice appartment, which had the correct size for a family of 4.
The appartment was clean, and well equipped, we didn't miss anything
The pool was also really nice, and a good size, even we were 5 or 6 famlies sharing it
The location is really good, it is close to Volterra and even in the local village you can find bakery, butcher and a small supermarket
The only thing, is that the weloem from the local agency only speak Italian, and doesn't understand a single english word.

Fantastic views and beautiful property!!
My husband and I stayed for a week and it was not nearly long enough! The buildings were beautifully maintained as well as the apartment itself, and the pool was great. You can see Volterra from one side and Montecantini from the other. Truly a Tuscan surrounding. The location worked well as you could travel towards Chianti inland or go to the coast. I advise the ladies to do some purse shopping as the leather is what you would expect coming from Italy and I was sorry I did not buy more! The food was always good but we chose to make our own as the produce there is so very fresh and tastes different from what we normally would have at home. I believe we shall book for next year and highly recommend this holiday and its location to all.

About the host
Hosted by Garrahan
We are two retired academics with a passion for France and Italy - their food, wine, history, culture, landscape, people. It was our lifetime dream to have places of our own there, and to share them with friends and family. Now we are happy to share them more widely with others who we hope will develop their own love affair with these beautiful countries.
Why they chose this property
We chose this apartment for a variety of reasons. First, we loved the drama of the countryside around Volterra - its spectacular views. Each season presents a different aspect. Then we found it very accessible for the airport, cities like Pisa, Siena, Florence, but also the sea and wonderful hilltop villages. Volterra is a fabulous little town with a roman and an etruscan past, and you can never get tired of it, but it is not overrun with tourists. We loved the high specification put in place by the developers who insisted on sympathetic features which respected place and time. The complex allowed complete peace, but also a sense of community for those who like to be sociable. The beautiful pool is a natural gathering place. Once we had seen it, we couldn't settle for anything less.
What makes this property unique
Although the property stands alone in the countryside, it benefits from a good road passing close by - no rough tracks to negotiate - and a convenient village with all conveniences just 3kms away.
