About this property

Inspiring Apartment In Barjac With Terrace Views Over The Cevennes Mountains

Originally a silk-weaver's house, Maison Martinet lies in the picturesque medieval heart of Barjac next to the chateau. It has been sympathetically modernised while maintaining its original rustic stone features. There are 2 spacious ensuite bedrooms and a relaxing living room and kitchen. The panoramic roof terrance is the ideal place to dine or watch the sun set over the beautiful Cevennes mountains. With its bustling weekly market and famous open-air antique markets twice a year, Barjac has a reputation as a cultural centre as well as being at the heart of French organic food. There are busy restaurants throughout the town which is also surrounded by some of the most scenic swimming rivers in France. It forms a great base for visits to Avignon, Uzes and the Ardeche.

About the host

Host profile image
I bought the house in 2005 from our great friends Richard and Andrew who live next door. It took around 5 years to finally get the place sorted and has been a labour of love for may years.

I work in London but escape to Barjac whenever I can.

My mum, Brenda, often spends time over the summer in the downstairs apartment so she'll probably be on hand to give you the keys and offer any advise you need on local places to visit.

Why they chose this property

Barjac is a great base for visiting the area. It's a centre for organic farming and benefits from amazing rivers like the Chassezac and the Ceze which you can to swim or canoe in, all within half an hour.

I has two huge antique markets every year which fill the town and during the summer you can almost be certain of something going on most weeks, whether it be a bull-run, a music festival, a lavender fair or just the amazing Friday market.
