Beautifully renovated 300 year old farmhouse overlooking the Dyfi Estuary and stunning welsh countryside. With the Dyfi Osprey Project just over the river, together with Ynys-Hir Nature Reserve, the house has a special attraction for all bird lovers. Kites and Ospreys can often be spotted soaring over the garden.

please make an enquiry with your chosen dates as we will give,

25% discount for 5 days
and 33% discount for 6 days based on the nightly price.

We have provided everything from fluffy towels, herbs and spices and pasta, to a basket of logs to help you enjoy your stay here. Although the house has a really simple, traditional feel we also have a Bose Bluetooth speaker in the kitchen and a music system with Blue tooth in the sitting room. A touch of luxury is a Nespresso coffee machine in the kitchen. The house has loads of charm from family antiques, local art and photographs, to furniture that we have renovated in keeping with the heart and soul the house. The garden has a wood-burning Chiminea for cooler nights watching the sun go down and a large barbecue for summer alfresco cooking.
Glan-y-Morfa is accessed down a well-maintained farm track, so you are definitely "off the beaten track", but only 10 minutes walk across fields and Talgarth Woods is the Plas Talgarth Country club, which has a great snug bar (Y Garth) and restaurant . By car the house is only 15 minutes drive to the glorious beaches and coves on the Dyfi Estuary and the delightful seaside village of Aberdyfi. Going inland for 15 minutes is the ancient market town of Machynlleth; full of interesting junk and vintage shops, as well as a great weekly Market selling fresh local food and crafts. There are numerous walks and bike trails up in the mountains and the notorious Cadair Idris Mountain for the more adventurous.
The area there has numerous walks for all levels and we have plenty of maps and books in the farmhouse for you to plan your day.
We welcome dogs (we even have spare bowls for them,) but please be aware that the house is surrounded by farmland, so they need to be kept under control at all times . No smoking permitted in the house.
The house has 2 large double bedrooms, 1 twin bedroom and 1 bedroom with full-sized bunk beds. A travel cot can be put up by request.
There is an upstairs bathroom and toilet with shower and a 2nd bathroom downstairs with bath, shower and toilet. A large family kitchen with table to seat 8, plus a separate dining room that also seats 8 people. The large sitting room has 2 sofas and a new log burning fire. There's a TV with a digital box and CD player, hi-fi, plus numerous books and maps about the area. At the back of the house is a utility/games room with washing machine and tumble dryer plus a drying rack for wet clothes and a muddy boots rack. Bikes can also be stored safely here, as there are some great mountain trails up in the mountains. If you want to stay in we also have table football and a "Safe" darts board, together with numerous outdoor games: badminton, swing ball tennis and quoits.
The house is well stocked with a variety of family board games and cards.

Not just somewhere to stay , but more like an experience .What stood out was the sense of place .You could feel the history of the building and how it totally belonged in its location, offering a glimpse into bygone days .Warm , comfortable and well equipped. Items of original furniture complemented to the feel .The welcome pack was appreciated. The owners were communicative without being intrusive .A memorable stay in a quiet and scenic location

Amazing location.. didn't want to leave!

My family and I have just got home from an incredible week staying in this beautiful house. It was so cosy, a real home from home! Waking up to see Buzzards and Ospreys flying around was amazing! A bird lovers paradise! We couldn't have asked for a better location. When we arrived we were greeted with a wonderful welcome pack including cake, wine, eggs, jam and bread! We will definitely be returning in the next couple of years.. hopefully next year! WE LOVED IT!!!!

Fabulous place for an old friends reunion

We are five friends and two dogs. Needed somewhere to meet differing wants. Three walkers and two not. Superb walks out if the door and near enough to the towns to keep the other two happy. Such a peaceful place with amazing views- and the bonus of the osprey nesting site just across the estuary. We all found this such a relaxing stay. The peace was fabulous and we all slept like logs. The cottage was spotless and very well equipped. We hope to be back.

Stunning cosy cottage

We have just returned from the Glen y Morfa cottage. I have to say 5 stars all round. Beautifully presented, cosy and well equipped with the most amazing views. You don’t need to leave the cottage if you arrive with your provisions. Wifi is fast and we watched the coronation on the tv. We also lit a chimenea outside. Aberdovey is about 10 minutes away where we walked on the beach went to the pub and picked up a very good Indian takeaway. Highly recommend we will be back!

House is huge but cosy at the same time. Really clean. Beds very comfortable. Kitchen - lots of everything. Weather not very good but still lots to do in the area. Osprey nest visible from house & garden - bring binoculars for a better view of birds. Wildlife all around. Road & gates were fine. All very sad to leave & hope to come back again one day.

Relaxing get away

This is a big spacious farm house set in farm land. Stunning views, of the estuary and hills beyond. Lovely little garden. Great communication with owners. Cattle and sheep surrounding the property so tricky for walking with our dogs on the right of way across the farmland as cows had calf’s with them when we stayed. Well stocked kitchen great for family meals in, dishwasher and tablets provided. Great utility area with washer and dryer, indoor drying rack also. Two bathrooms one with bath and shower one with shower. Lots of great things to do around the area, lots of waterfalls, we loved the osprey project, Aberdovey is a great beach and town great for dog walking. We visited Aberystwyth 3 times for steam train to devils bridge falls, the escape room and to look round beach, shops and ride the funicular. We needed some down time and recharging and family time and this was a perfect holiday.

There aren’t enough stars - an extraordinary find.

To say we loved this farmhouse is an understatement. Set off the beaten track, with breath-taking uninterrupted views of The Dyfi estuary, this farmhouse had everything we could have possibly wanted and more. It’s thick with charm while roomy and comfortable, has top-notch modern appliances, insanely fast wi-fi, all nestled among warm personal touches. It’s extremely stylish and generously kitted out, with enough to cook for, serve and feed large numbers had we had them. Every possible need was thought through and shared so that we could indulge in an authentic farmland experience, without having to take care of the lambing at 3 am. We partook of the honor system and used logs for the fire one night, and relished the heated slate floors in the mornings and on return from the dunes or walks. Everything is very well explained which adds to a great sense of confidence if you had any qualms about potential isolation. Above and beyond our expectations and we’d love to come back.

Lovely property in a fantastic location

This is a really lovely old farm property with many traditional features but also modern updates. The location is what makes it special, on the northern side of the Dyfi estuary/valley a short distance from the river. It is reached via a farm track and four gates to open and close to keep the sheep and lambs in the right fields, and this adds to the charm and seclusion. We chose the property because of the peace and quiet and because it is surrounded by nature and wildlife. On the opposite side of the river you can see the Dyfi Osprey project with binoculars. Further along the other side is Ynys-Hir RSPB reserve too. Local towns Machynlleth and Aberdovey have good facilities and for the more energetic, Cader Idris is around 30 minutes' drive. We enjoyed taking the Talyllyn railway from Twywn to Nant Gerol and the Quarry Inclines Walk.

Weekend in Wales

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The accommodation was lovely and the location was superb. The only slight issue was the 4 gates that had to be opened and closed each time we went anywhere but other than that it was wonderful. We also had communication issues with vrbo but were soon able to speak directly with the owners who were very helpful and able to resolve any queries so our thanks to Mark & Sarah.

Great place if you like to be remote with fantastic views. a

Loved our stay, the hosts are very easy to contact and relaxed, they have equipped the place very well, we cooked there most nights and we had everything we needed. There was lots of garden furniture, games and sofa space for all 8 of us. There is a track and 3 gates to open to get to the property so it is very off the beaten track. It was a shame but understandable that the farmer who owns the surrounding farm has banned walking on his land and that the local counrty club, a short walk away (and the nearest pub and restaurant) was not allowing visiting guests, maybe this will change again post covid.
Response from VrboOwner on 15 Sept, 2021
So glad that you had a good holiday. The Country Club Plas Talgarth is normally open to non-residents to use the restaurant and bar. But hopefully that will resume soon, as it is lovely to walk over to in the evenings. We hope to see you again.

The property is lovely, located literally off the beaten track in an old farm cottage. We loved the quiet and being surrounded by fields. The kids could run round without any concerns. Great location with amazing view

We enjoyed a great weekend at the cottage for my 70 th birthday. The location is great, one really felt out in the country, esp going through the farm gates! Great views towards the Estuary, cattle and sheep in the nearby fields, we seen squirrels and my grandson with his new binoculars - an osprey! The grandchildren loved the freedom (after telling them the Country code). We never ate out, instead using the BBQ, the meat bought in a great quality butcher in Machynlleth. Two of us did go Yhsair Restaurant, the other side of the Estuary, which was prebooked for months and if you get chance to go - a great experience, ,We were lucky with the weather and mainly sat outside admiring those views or at the kitchen table. The lounge was cosy when used. The beds were comfy and nice quality bedding. Showers lovely. Would recommend but took some * off as the fridge/freezer wasn't very clean, esp with new Covid rules meaning later in and earlier out to cover deep clean and no welcome back despite told in email with directions and in literature in the house, saying took away the usual supply available of pasta, rice, herbs etc but you will still get your welcome pack. The owners did apologise and that i should have been informed beforehand. As it was all our party did not arrive the same time so i was able to text to say get milk, and bread. I would not have been that happy having to go out again through all them gates for a cup of tea! Great place though and has given me happy memories.

A wonderful oasis of peace and tranquility

We have stayed in many rented properties but never anything quite like this. The owners have thought of everything This is just not just a rented property this is a real warm welcoming home. Comfortable beds and modern bathrooms. A Big family kitchen, comfortable cosy warm sitting room and from every room the views are amazing . The only sounds are the call of the birds and sheep and the little local train away in the distance. Take binoculars and sit in the garden with a glass of wine and just soak up the atmosphere. If you can tear yourself away for evening out then do try the local restaurant in Pennal they are very welcoming and the food is excellent . There are many places to visit and beautiful areas to walk . If you are looking to getting away from it all and enjoying the countryside then this is the place.. We will definitely be returning .

Even Santa found this remote location

Glan-y-Morfa, built in the 1700's, retains its cosy old-world character, complete with 2 Inglenook fireplaces yet has been completely modernized. There is everything a modern cook could possily need in the typical Welsh farmhouse kitchen, including a huge American-style fridge-freezer. The 4 bedrooms are sizeable with good solid mattresses. Every window has a superb view looking out over the Dovey Estuary. The only sounds are birdsong and bleating sheep. You'd be forgiven for thinking you were quite alone until nightfall when the twinkling lights across the river are evident. If its peace and quiet you want then Glan-y-Morfa is the answer. Our family had a magical Christmas week in this idyllic place.

We stayed at the cottage for 3 nights , it is very private set down a long track . The cottage has plenty of space with 4 bedrooms and 2 baths is a prefect place for families to get together. There is Wood burning stove to keep you Cosy in the sitting room and a very spacious kitchen with a farm house table to have meals around.there is a pretty garden outside . About the host

Host profile image
We renovated Glan-y-morfa in 2012/2013. It had always been my family's holiday home when I and my brother were growing up. It was pretty basic then, but we came most weekends and every holiday. My parents finally retired there when we left home. After my father died, my mother continued living there until she got older and found the upkeep too much and we took the plunge of renovating it. My brother and sister-in-law moved back to the area at the same time, so we still have strong ties to the area. It has been true labour of love and we have now retired to Shropshire, so we are able to look after the house ourselves.
I worked in advertising as did my wife Sarah, who now manages most of the rentals. Sarah divides her time between photography and making jewellery.

Why they chose this property

The house is in the most stunning location, overlooking the Dyfi Estuary. We wanted to make sure that it was still used when my mother-in-law moved out and also wanted to get it back to being loved and cared for. We have tried to keep the heart and soul of the house whilst also making it a lot more comfortable and accessible.

It is surrounded by amazing views and farmland, but is also only 15 minutes from Aberdovey's beaches and the great market and shops in Machynlleth. The farm house is located down a well maintained farm track, so the only traffic you hear is the occasional farmer on his tractor.

We love the area and all the fabulous walks around Cadair Idris and Dolgoch falls, the walks along the Dyfi Estuary, but most of all the peace and quiet and the views

What makes this property unique

What makes Glan-y-morfa special to us are the views from every window. Whether it is winter or summer, they are always changing and just lift your spirits.

When it gets chilly at night the Jotel open fire in the sitting room warms the house up beautifully. Although there is full central heating and underfloor heating in the kitchen and downstairs bathroom.
