Another great holiday at Mary’s beautiful cottage

This was our third visit to the cottage - we love the location, the privacy, the country cottage feel of the property and the lateral around garden which is perfect for dogs. Great walks in the area and a short journey to shops.

Cottage with fantastic view

Lovely period cottage with gorgeous views of mountains and valley with river. Quiet and secluded and a welcome change to rap up our vacation. Mary, our host, came by to check on us and was a delight to get the opportunity to visit with her.

Cottage in poor condition in general. Needs some love. Did not stay here and had to find a different holiday home away from the area we wanted and at a premium. Not a good start to a holiday that we were all looking forward to so much, and was a very stressful start to our break. Having to stay away from the area we wanted meant an hour extra drive each day. Very poor indeed. Will not be using Vrbo again.

Nice Setting

Traditional cottage with lovely garden, quiet location and views over the valley. Lots of birds in the garden and keep an eye out for local tawny owl. If you are interested in the low flying military aircraft - the valley the cottage looks over is part of the Mach Loop so you can see them from here. If you suffer with back/joint pain you may wish to take something to layer on the mattress as it is very firm. Mary was very friendly and very helpful, sending us lots of recommendations of places to visit.

Mr Ian Lawman

Wonderful property in an amazing location in an amazing area, would definitely recommend. As stated the property is very old and dated, but it’s in total character with what it is supposed to be, if your looking for mod cons and up to date tech go to the city. Mary is a lovely host and made a special effect to make sure she saw us, which was much appreciated, Would definitely return.

A magical place

The house and the surrounding is magical. If you like these old small houses in the national trust gardens you can visit you will love this one. It’s so beautiful it feels more like a fairy tell. Very very cozy. And Mary is very helpful, a very nice person who you should ask if you want to get some tips where to go, she has a lot of good ideas! Small warning to those who find this important, internet is very slow there:) but other than that this place is very very lovely. One of the most special and beautiful I ever visited.

Another lovely stay in this cottage. You’ll need to take all the essentials and be prepared to buy logs, kindling etc in the colder months but the location is fabulous and the wrap around garden perfect for dogs and a sense of being away from it all. Lovely walks in the area, only a short drive from amenities. This is our 4th stay here and we hope to return.

Sorry we wouldn't stay again

When you pull up outside, you’re all excited because it looks beautiful. But as soon as you open the door, that excitement starts to fade, and you start thinking, 'What have we booked here?' There is a weird smell that you don’t get used to, the pictures from the site are not recent and don’t reflect the true state of the property. There are spiders and cobwebs everywhere you look. I understand it’s an old property and there will be spiders, but some of the cobwebs look years old. The property needs a deep clean, a lick of paint, and the bathroom and kitchen desperately need an upgrade. But the worst thing, and the reason we left on the 3rd day and not the 4th, was the mattress on the double bed; it is as solid as a rock and very old, at least 20, 30, or 40 years old. We had to book a hotel for our last night. It’s disappointing because this house could be an amazing place.

Charming Cottage

We loved our stay at Penycoed Cottage, which, we were told, is about 400 years old! It is located on a hill, and you get to see some fantastic views as you drive down from the property. Property is pretty well maintained. Mary is wonderful and it was great meeting her. She gave us some great ideas on what places to visit and so on.

Perfect escape

It was our second time staying here. A gorgeous cottage in a peaceful location. Great views from upstairs windows.Large secure wrap around garden (perfect for our 3 year old) Jets overhead if you’re lucky (again perfect for our 3 year old who loved this)Walk down the hill from the house to the river (its a fairly steep hill but great views on the way down and also great for jet spotting. Lots of lovely places for paddling in the river, steam railways nearby (another favourite), lovely beach at Aberdovey only 30 mins away. We adore this place and have enjoyed our stay very much both times.

Brilliant 4 night stay

The cottage is in a perfect quiet location, it’s very private and has everything you could need. The grounds are gated off from the single track road in front -the road is a dead end further up the hill, there is no passing traffic to speak of. The valley in front of the cottage is stunning. We had a great time and were sad to leave

I take pride that, Penycoed, on the doorstep of Southern Snowdonia (W244) and my Knightsbridge flat in Eresby House (E2379) are first and foremost family homes rather than purely holiday lets.

Why they chose this property

Penycoed has been part of the family farm for generations. It is situated on a hill in the picturesque Dyfi valley on the gentle southern slopes of Snowdonia. The coast and the old estuary port of Aberdovey, now a well known tourist destination, with its sandy beaches, sailing and golfing opportunities are a short drive away.

What makes this property unique

Being a city dweller, the cottage with its large enclosed garden continues to provide the perfect retreat and antidote to a stressful life throughout the year. Carefully renovated, it retains its period features and is furnished accordingly.

In winter, the large inglenook with its open log fire provides the perfect opportunity to relax, whilst in summer the substantial lawns, planting and high hedge provide private spaces to relax when not enjoying the wider amenities of the area.

Whilst being secluded, it has amenities such as restaurants, pubs and even a village shop and post office nearby. The acclaimed Centre for Alternative Technology is a few miles away.
