Bliss in Normandy

We had a wonderful stay at the beautiful Normandy Barn. Beautiful accommodation with every amenity possible for a perfect stay. I couldn't fault it and would love to visit again.

A comfortable haven

The pictures of this lovely property don’t do it justice.The beds are super comfy and the kitchen very well appointed.Despite being a heatwave, the back garden was in the shade from lunchtime with a gentle breeze. The area is PACKED with wonderful old towns, restaurants and museums as well as delightful countryside.Honestly, the most comfortable’ gite ‘ we have stayed in in over 40 years of French holidays.Thank you SuzanneFrom Jan and Derek Lancaster

Enjoyable rest

The house (it was obviously a converted barn, but once inside it had all the appearance internally of a house) was as described, ideally situated in a quiet part of the country, isolated from traffic, but near a nice little village. Beautifully decorated and equipped with everything you might need, it was the ideal place for us to rest and unwind, and we appreciate the opportunity. Thank you.

Beautiful but a bit Remote

My wife and I, both in our mid 70's, visited in early August for a week. The barn is more well renovated and decorated than it's pictures credit. The location was ideal for our plans to visit both Normandy and Brittany, and we enjoyed both Sourdeval and Portain. Our only issues were difficulties with a late arrival well after dark and the barn's remote location.

A very attractive property in a quiet country location, fully equipped and tastefully furnished.

We spent a most enjoyable 4 weeks at the Apple Barn during May 2018. The property has been renovated to a very high standard and is equipped with all the appliances necessary for a comfortable stay. The standard of decoration and furnishings are to an equally high standard. The house is located in a quiet setting in the heart of the Normandy countryside, yet is reasonably close to the facilities available in Sourdeval, Mortain and Vire and the major attractions including the DDay beaches and museums, the Mont St Michel and many others are within an hours car journey. The area is spoiled with choices of good restaurants, ranging from local gourmand cuisine to more basic, yet interesting, food. We played golf on several courses in the area and would particularly recommend Golf de la Dathee, near Vire. This course presents a real challenge, without being too long, and the scenery adjacent to the lake is really beautiful. Although we did not take advantage of it, there are many rural walkways and cycle routes to hand and the sites of historic interest are well presented and are readily accessible. We were sorry to leave and would unreservedly recommend this property to prospective visitors.

We had a very pleasant stay , the gite was beautiful, however some things were not very practical , the screens and nets in the bedrooms, the wet room style bathrooms and a couple of more pillows would make the beds more comfortable.

Really enjoyable short stay.

The barn is real luxury, with everything you could possibly wish for. It's situated in lovely quiet rural area, but also near enough to drive to Sourdeval town. Mont-Saint-Michel and St Malo are both great places to visit and only an hours drive away. Had a truly enjoyable stay at the barn and would recommend it to anyone.

Nous avons passé un agréable séjour dans cette maison duplex où rien ne manque. Nous avons apprécié le poêle à feu de bois l’agréable séjour et la cuisine très bien équipé. Le lieu est propice au repos mais aussi aux visites de la Normandie. Nous avons pu aller au Mont-Saint-Michel et revenir par la ville de Caen et Ouistreham. Une belle escapade nature qui fait du bien pendant cette période particulière à cause du Covid. Merci à nos hôtes qui font toute confiance aux locataires. À recommander.

Very nice cottage in beautiful location

We very much enjoyed our stay in the cottage. It is very spacious and nicely decorated. The town nearby is really nice and has all shops one needs during a shorter stay. It is a little far from the coast but that is the only downside.

Beautifully planned, furnished and equipped gite. Ideal for a cosy, comfortable and relaxing stay in the gorgeous French countryside with plenty to see and do nearby. We were two couples celebrating significant birthdays and couldn’t have enjoyed our little Autumnal break more.

We are more than happy that our rural location gives easy day trip access to many historical and natural sites of Normandy. Normandy is a very large area and no one place can be close to all the areas of interest from Mont St Michel, Bayeux to Giverny !! We are located so that even Paris is accessible (by train) for a day visit, as we have done ourselves. We have had many guests who have been more than happy with our location, as it offered them easy trips to many different places, including Hill 314., which is only 4 klm away, as are the beautiful waterfalls at Mortain. Maybe next time you could pick locations closer to the Barn to visit? Thank you. Suzanne

Relaxing Break

The Barn is a beautiful place to stay for a relaxing stay in a quiet and rural location. The property has been renovated to a really high standard and as we were two couples the two en-suite bedrooms were perfect. Ideal location for visiting the D day beaches, Mont St Michel and many more. A visit to the bell foundery at Villedieu les Poeles was very interesting. Plenty of good restaurants around. L'Abbaye at Neufbourg was excellent

Great stay in a well equipped gite

We booked this based on the reviews and we were not disappointed. The barn is very well presented and has all the amenities you can want. As we were a couple we only used one bedroom/ bathroom so can’t comment on second bedroom/bathroom. As we were staying over New Year we had an additional payment for the heating which worked well and kept the place very comfortable. The barn itself is situated just outside of Sourdeval and only minutes from Mortain for the larger supermarket if needed. Suzanne the owner was always quick to respond to the booking request and other questions and kept us up to date as we neared the holiday dates. Unfortunately as we arrived we were informed that there was a line fault with the telephone/internet and so we were without these for a couple of days while the providing company rectified the issue. Nothing the owner could have done but we were grateful for the updates. The barn was spotless and everything was in working order. Lovely hot shower with good water pressure, good oven and hob, dishwasher, large screen tv with UK freeview etc. The barn is within a small hamlet of around 6 other houses and was incredibly peaceful. We wanted a relaxing and quiet break after the busy Christmas and we certainly got it. One of the best places we have stayed in.

Beautiful holiday home in idyllic surroundings

We have recently spent a week at the Barn and can state that all previous reviews are entirely accurate. The property is luxurious and so much attention paid to detail. Whilst we ate out on a number of occasions we also enjoyed barbecues and cooking in the well appointed kitchen. The gardens and patio are so peaceful and you are surrounded by nature . We regularly saw deer only a short distance from the barn. Suzanne is so helpful and ensured that any queries were promptly answered, thank you again Suzanne.

Lovely barn with everything you need for very comfortable stay in a beautiful rural location.

Found the barn easily and everything as described or even better. There is plenty of outside space and you can move around for sun or shade as required and we ate outside for almost every meal. Local towns good for shopping with plenty of patisseries. We found going south best for quiet and rural countryside with some lovely villages and small towns such as Lassay de Chateau. Granville and Averanches very busy. The Moulin restuarant at Brioude was good and has a pleasant river walk too. A great holiday!
