Excellent property. Immaculately clean.

First class property ideal location for beach and cliff walks. Everything needed in the property which one would have at home. Well kept gardens and area. Value for money with good back up service if required from the property manager (Paula). Would recommend these properties to anyone. The cleaning teams are outstanding.

Perfect in every way!

Sea Urchins Beach House is a fantastic place. Beautifully presented and extremely clean. The location is great, you can be walking on the seafront at Filey, Bridlington or Scarborough after just a few minutes drive. Where it’s positioned in the ‘village’ it was very quiet, obviously in the middle of summer it may be not so. We will definitely return to Sea Urchins if it’s available when we next have a break.

Sea Urchin beach housr

We had a lovely time at the sea urchin beach house. We have been coming to the bay for many year's off and on. I remember them building these beach houses. So glad we got to stay in one. Beautiful clean and well equipped. Makes for a restful mini break. Will definitely be back.

Best of British

We had a perfect British holiday in this luxurious beach house. The accommodation was first class and just a short walk to Filey’s unspoilt beach. The on site facilities were great, swimming pool, tennis court, pub/restaurant, convenience store and pizza restaurant. We had great days out; Sewerby Hall and Zoo, bird-watching at Bempton, seal watching at Flamborough, paddle boards at the North Yorkshire Water Park, surfing at Cayton Bay and pitch and putt near Filey village. Looking forward to returning soon!

Drain Problem

Unfortunately the drain problem meant we could not use one of the toilets which was an inconvenience however this was the fault of the Bay itself. Paula tried her upmost to rectify the problem on our behalf and was always responsive after being contacted. This is the 4th time we have stayed at the Bay and would highly recommend it.

Winter weekend.

Had a lovely stay at Sea Urchins. The accommodation has everything you need for a break away. It is located central to the amenities and within an easy walk to the beach. Although the lodge was clean there were areas for improvement which is reflected by my score of 4. Having said this I would return again.

Home from home

This is our second year staying in the Sea Urchin Beach House and we hope to return next summer. We can't fault it. It has every home comfort plus a welcome pack, plenty of children's games, jigsaws and beach equipment. There is good communication with the company.

A good compact family second home.

All the usual facilities were supplemented by a multitude of adult / child table top games in case of bad weather, with beach toys for children in the outside box. The settee was probably substantial as an extra bed but not too comfy for relaxing in.

The bay

I've stayed in this property twice .it's very nice but couple of things .the settee is very un comfortable had to keep putting g lots of pilliws behind me. Was slipping of it. Also outside drain needs cover over it very dangerous at night. And parking sleepers falling to bits quiet dangerous. But really enjoyed my stay.

Loved it!

We spent a wonderful week at the beach house in August and definitely recommend it to you all! So relaxing. The beach house is full of games and books and DVDs. It's very homely and clean and a perfect space for our family of five. The Bay itself is so self contained, you don't need to leave its perimeters, and we hardly needed a car at all as when going into Filey we just walked down the beach. Thanks Paula and Tim!

Beautiful beach house, good location

We are regulars at The Bay and the 2 bedroom beach houses are perfect for a couple or small family. We love the seaside decor, good facilities and lots of extras provided. Cleaning and ustomer service are both excellent, the site is dog friendly. Dogs can use the nearby beach all year round (there are restrictions near the promenade during the summer). We used the swimming pool every day and enjoyed a walk to Filey and a walk to the beach cafe at Reighton Gap - from there you can take a path along the cliff top back to the site. Just check tide times before going down to the beach to be on the safe side! We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed sunshine every day!

Lovely Beach house

Sea Urchins beach house is really homely, all the mod cons you need for a comfortable stay. All the decor and knickknacks are really quirky. Comfy beds but again Not fitted bottom sheets which does make a difference to a good nights sleep. The smaller bedroom with 2 singles pushed together has a fitted sheet on but didnt fit and only just went over top edges of the mattress so came off most nights. It wasnt easy to get back on. Location is great just down from all the amenities and close to beach walk. Very nice outdoor furniture with cushions kept in small bedroom to make it even more comfortable.

Pleasent stay, but there were a few things that we thought let it down.

Generally clean, but the main shower needed a thorough deep clean (using brushes), to remove black mould from the corners and low down at the door runners. It was off putting, I cleaned it with our sponge to improve things a little before we used it. There was an obvious problem with people not opening windows to help ventilate the bathroom to dispel the moisture. There were also traces of black mould on parts of the shower room, bedroom and hall windows. Again due to inadequate opening of windows when people are there at the property, (a notice is maybe required and a mention in the book of does and don'ts. There was no wiper or sponge to wipe down the showers after use. For the sake of a few pence, one spare kitchen bin liner bag would have been appreciated. The lounge settee was not comfortable due to the design and very deep base (no back support). The wooden sleepers used outside were an accident waiting to happen. With the car parked, access to walk past and get in and out of the car was bad, what little room there was, was hampered by large plants, the ground fell away on one side (I nearly fell over several times loosing my footing) and gaps between the half rotten sleepers. It was clearly not safe. Solid paving was needed as installed elsewhere on similar properties on the complex.

Beach-side Heaven!

We have just enjoyed a wonderful 5 day break at the "Sea Urchins", which is a beautiful New England style lodge with lots of little luxury touches which make a holiday special. The children enjoyed some of the games & DVDs in the evenings in front of the cosy log burner, after days spent running around on the fantastic Filey beach with Archie, our dog! They also went swimming every day and had a go at the Archery, rifle shooting and the sea scooters (in the pool!) So a fun-packed time! Also enjoyed a great (veggie) breakfast at the Café Italia- which was an added bonus on the first morning, as we had not been shopping! So much to do on the East Yorkshire coast as well, trips to York, Robin Hood's Bay, Whitby & Scarborough were also squeezed in! We would all love to come back again... thank you for providing such a tranquil and beautiful home to stay in!

Second stay

This was our second stay at Sea Urchins having stayed in December. Again all the facilities were available there is nothing that this house does not have. It was nice to see that the bedrooms had been re carpeted. The beach house is in a quiet location although not too far from the local amenities. Great access to Filey beach from the site. There are plenty of things to do in the area and plenty of dog friendly places to eat.

Another short break at my happy place

Just love it here, must have stayed 14 times now! Found it in lock down. In my opinion the owners of the site need to do some further investment as the facilities are now somewhat tired and in need of overall. I miss the little independent cafe. Still happy place and always recommend.

About the host

Hosted by Paula Foster

Host profile image
We are Paula and Tim Foster. We live in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. We bought this holiday home in spring 2014 for both our personal use for regular holidays with our 3 school age children and as an investment property.

We stayed in an apartment on The Bay development in summer 2013 after hearing good things about it from friends who had stayed there previously. On our last day, we visited the sales office, and had a tour of their beach house show home, and the rest, they say, is history!

We bought our beach house off plan, and chose the location as it was really convenient to the resort centre (1-2 mins walk) but on a quiet cul-de-sac with lots of communal green space for the children to play out on.

Why they chose this property

We were introduced to the resort of Filey around 7 years ago and we have holidayed there nearly every year since.
The beach is excellent - clean, sandy and not too crowded. We have spent many happy days building sandcastles, paddling in the sea and playing beach cricket. The town of Filey has a variety of small shops and cafés, and glen gardens park is excellent for children. We like the fact you can walk easily from one end of Filey to the other, down to the harbour to watch the fishing boats and play in the arcades, or up into the country park to get some great views.
We have our favourite places to visit - Sewerby Hall (with a small zoo), Bempton cliffs RSPB, Flamborough, Scarborough and Whitby (including the steam railway to Pickering). All within a short drive.

What makes this property unique

"Sea Urchins" beach house is really close to the resort centre, so it's really easy to go for a quick dip in the pool, pick up a pizza from the cafe or go for a drink in the pub, all 2 mins walk.

There are only a few beach houses on the site, and they really are special. The bifold doors open up fully to let that sea breeze in. The pitch of the roof gives a lot of ceiling height in all the rooms, which are all decorated and furnished in the New England style.

The kitchen contains a large fridgefreezer, dishwasher and washer/dryer, so everything you could need.

We have left a selection of beach toys, toys, jigsaws, books and DVDs for our guests to use.

The house has the additional benefit of a large outside store, which means more space for you inside the house, and lots you can borrow from us whilst you are staying.
