16th Century Cottage Situated Opposite The Medieval Landgate Arch

Chesterfield Cottage is a charming 16th century cottage, located in the heart of the conservation area of ancient Rye. It is situated opposite the Landgate arch and is just minutes from the historic attractions, antique shops, art galleries, bars and restaurants that Rye has to offer.

The cottage has two bedrooms and can comfortably sleep 3. There is a double bedroom on the first floor and a second bedroom in the loft that has one small (2ft6") singles.

The bedrooms and bathroom of the cottage are accessed via steep spiral staircases which may not be suitable for the elderly or very young. There is also a small step between the lounge and kitchen.

Such a sweet little cottage right in the centre of Rye. Great communication with the host. Very functional kitchen, netflix on the tv, fire starters and kindling for the fire, warm house when heating is on, comfortable beds and good pressure on the shower.

We have stayed at Chesterfield Cottage on several occasions and always enjoy it. The location can’t be beaten - right in centre of the town. The Cottage is cosy and comfortable with a wood burner to add to the ambiance.

Great Location. Unfortunately there was a very strong smell, I think of stale cigarette smoke. As you couldn't open the sash windows it was difficult to clear the air. The TV works off apps only, there is no live tv, so a bit difficult to work out how to work it.The fridge was very dirty with remnants of food. The stairs are very steep (which is expected in a 17th century cottage) but I feel it should be highlighted as a less agile person would struggle to navigate them. The bed was comfortable and bedding clean, however, as you can't open the sash window I struggled with the stale smell upstairs.Beautiful cottage but would benefit from a little TLC.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I am sorry that some aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. We operate a strict no-smoking policy at Chesterfield Cottage. However, if residents in neighbouring properties or gardens are smoking outdoors, odours can occasionally drift into the property. Unfortunately, this is beyond our control, although I appreciate that it can be unpleasant. Due to the cottage's location, the TV aerial can occasionally struggle to receive a reliable live TV signal. For this reason, we also provide access to a range of streaming apps as an alternative. I appreciate that this may not have been immediately obvious and will review the information provided to guests to make this clearer. Regarding the front windows, after experiencing a small number of security-related issues over the years, and given that the cottage is often unoccupied for extended periods, I made the difficult decision to keep them closed. To help maintain airflow and guest comfort, a powerful air circulation fan is provided. I am also sorry to hear that the fridge was not presented to the standard you expected. This is not the standard we aim for, and I will raise the matter with our cleaner to help ensure it does not happen again. We do highlight on our VRBO listing that the bedrooms and bathroom are accessed via steep spiral staircases, which may not be suitable for elderly guests or very young children. Nevertheless, I am sorry to hear that you found them difficult to navigate. Thank you again for your comments. Guest feedback is always appreciated and helps us identify areas where we can improve and enhance future guests' experiences. Great cottage, great location.

We have stayed in Chesterfield Cottage on a few occasions and have always found to be a great place to stay. Located right in centre of town close to all sights, pubs and restaurants. Will definitely return again.

Why they chose this property

We had been escaping to Rye from our busy lives in London for years, purchasing Chesterfield Cottage in 2010. After some extensive renovations to the kitchen and bathroom we have been using it as our home away from home, to relax and recharge our batteries.

There is always something going on in the town and local area, amazing beaches, walks and quiet roads to cycle.
