About this property
Charming 3 bedroom gite in a beautiful village on the River Lot
Our gîte is set within the flower filled courtyard of a Maison de Maitre in Albas, an old and beautiful village set high up on the banks of the Lot. The gîte was originally a barn so there are beams in the bedrooms and plenty of exposed stone walls to give the interior a warm and relaxed atmosphere. In addition to the courtyard there is a large, secluded, south facing garden with splendid views over the rooftops towards the river.
The entrance to the gîte is through the courtyard into a large kitchen/living area with tiled floors and plenty of exposed stone. The two large glass doors that form the entrance can be opened fully so that the courtyard becomes an extension of the living area. To the rear of this large room there are stairs leading up to a sitting room with two sofas, two chairs and a tv. Off the sitting room are the three bedrooms with exposed beams and stone walls, a separate toilet and a bathroom with separate shower.
• A large kitchen/living space
• An upstairs sitting room.
• Two large double bedrooms (both with a double bed) and one smaller bedroom with twin beds.
• A bathroom with a full size bath and a shower.
• A toilet.
• Wifi & Freeview TV.
The gîte will comfortably sleep 6 people. Meals "al fresco" can be enjoyed in the courtyard or in the garden. There is also a barbecue. Amenities in the kitchen include a gas hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge-freezer and washing machine. The kitchen is equipped with all you are likely to need to cook the delicious produce you have bought in the local markets. Please note that access to the main house is also via the courtyard but the two properties are some distance apart and the area close to the gîte is screened off and for the exclusive use of guests. Guests also have use of the large garden (shared with the owners) which can be accessed via a number of steps from the courtyard.
Bedding (to include pillows, duvets, sheets, duvet covers, pillow slips etc.) and towels for use in the house are provided.
In the summer the village offers three places to eat. The Guinguette d'Albas with views over the river offers casual dining with regular live music nights and DJ sets through the summer months. La Rose & Le Réséda is set in the medieval heart of the village where meals are eaten outside in good weather. The third is a bar in the village which provides meals in the summer and where it is also possible to order bread. There is also Bonjour Epicerie where it is possible to buy groceries and a selection of fresh food. Finally the village has its own 'beach', where it is possible to swim in the river Lot.
The village festival with four nights of music Friday to Monday is the first weekend in August. Guests are very welcome to take part in the festival but please note that you may experience some noise from it.

About the host
Hosted by Sue
Hi, my name is Susan. For most of the year I live in the lovely town of Tunbridge Wells with my husband Lee but we try to spend as much time as possible in Albas.
Why they chose this property
Having spent a number of holidays at various locations in France we came to the Lot department for the first time in 2015 and fell in love with the area. It's such a beautiful place, with it's medieval towns and villages, the vineyards (the autumn colours are spectacular) and the river winding through the limestone cliffs. We decided we wanted to buy a place of our own and were very lucky to find our house on the first buying trip. It had everything we wanted - traditional buildings, a flower filled courtyard, a large garden with views over the village and somewhere to rent out so that we could share this lovely area with other people.
What makes this property unique
La Grange still retains a certain rustic charm, with its original wooden beams and exposed stone work that seems to give a lovely golden glow in the afternoon sun. We love to open the large double doors to extend the living space into the courtyard in the warmer months. The large tree that sits in front of the barn provides a welcome spot of dappled shade in the summer, where you can sit and enjoy meals al fresco. One of our favourite things to do (particularly in the summer) is sit in the garden as dusk falls with a glass of wine, watching the swallows swop overhead. It's also in a great location, whether you are interested in culture, cuisine or simply to enjoy the nature of this wonderful region.
