Escape to Villa Hammaka - Enjoy Amazing Waterfront Views!


Villa Hammaka is a private house right on Curacao's Spanish Water bay, with breathtaking views of the beautiful landscape and sunset skies right from your private beach and pier. After leisurely waking up, you can enjoy the morning breeze while having breakfast on the porch or under the pergola by the beach. When you are ready, grab some snorkel gear and search for the hidden "treasures" around the pier. Afterwards, you can catch up on your reading while relaxing in one of our hammocks. If you want to be more adventurous, you can take a car to experience the many attractions Curaçao has to offer. Be sure to get back to the house in time to pour your favorite drink, put your toes in the sand and capture the breathtaking sky at sunset.

Can you picture yourself here? We can accommodate you! The house has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and can sleep a total of 6 people. All of the furniture is teak and the linens are high quality, with 400 thread count sheets. This is our private beach house that we are sharing with guests when we are not there, so we only provide what we would want for ourselves!

We ask for a minimum of 3 nights, with discounts for weekly and monthly rentals.

If you rent our car, we will pick you up at the airport and tell you about the "must see" spots on the island! If you don't rent our car, we do recommend that you rent a car from an agency to get around if you would like to leave the house to replenish supplies or even just to see the local area because there is nothing within walking distance of the house and no mass transportation close by.

To give you an idea of distances, the closest grocery store is around 5-10 minutes away by car. The Jan Thiel beach area, which has four restaurants, from casual to upscale, as well as beach bars and shopping, is around 5-10 minutes away by car. The downtown "Punda" area, where the historic "handelskade" is located, is around a 15 minute drive from the house. You will find shopping, restaurants, bars and the cinemas there as well. The Santa Barbara resort, where you will find golf, tennis and restaurants, is also around 15 minutes away in the other direction. So, you are basically within a 10 to 15 minute drive of most everywhere you'd like to go!

If you want to check out the other side of the island, called "banda abou" (literally meaning "other side"), it will take you around 30-45 minutes, depending on how far you want to go.

We enjoyed our stay so much! The little house on the Spanish water was perfect! We enjoyed the dock, enjoyed watching the boats and the wind surfers. We rented their car and zoomed around the island and made the most of our vacation checking everything out! Thanks Heather for such a great place for us to stay!!

Peaceful Getaway

My husband and I enjoyed our peaceful escape to Curacao. Staying at Villa Hammaka was a nice experience. We enjoyed the tranquility of being right on the water. We enjoyed beautiful sunsets and all the amenities we needed for our stay.

Ideal

Our ten day stay was ideal. You are near all activities at Curaçao (you do need a car), but the house and place provides everything you need for a Carribean vacation. The hosts are wonderfull, best Ibhave ever seen! My only wish was to stay longer..

Great Stay

Heather is an excellent host! Easy to contact and responds quickly. House is exactly as described - great sitting out on the deck each morning and evening (just beware of the mosquitoes- they are viscous In Curacao lol). We only used the AC at night in the bedrooms but kept the bedroom doors closed all day and it kept the rooms cooler (electricity is very expensive on the island). We toured the island each day - took several boat trips with BlueFin, which were Great and easy to get to from the house. Heather gave us several good recommendations for restaurants. If you need a taxi ask Heather for Nai’s info - she’s a great driver with great rates.

The owners are top notch folks, helped us from arrival to departure and very detailed oriented. Nice little house, secure, off the main drag but close to all amenities Curacao has to offer. Our 2 kids loved chasing around lizards and iguanas in the yard and the dock is awesome to relax at in the evenings.

Girls trip

Our stay could not have been better. Heather picked us up promptly at the airport and took us to the Villa. She showed us everything we might need to know and was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all of the places and things Curacao had to offer. We rented her car which was very reasonable and perfect for exploring the island. The house was well appointed and had the best views. We could have stayed for a very long time and not run out of things to do and see. The dock and outdoor area were very comfortable and it felt like a true vacation. We felt completely safe and had no issues with mosquitos. There was light boat traffic and a few dogs barked, but nothing excessive and sleeping was never a problem. Will definitely stay again if we ever get lucky enough to get to Curacao again.

Wonderful, relaxing vacation!

We were so lucky to have found Heather and Villa Hammaka for our weeklong stay on Curacao. We loved the privacy of this beautiful property, and enjoyed beginning and ending each day relaxing in the hammocks overlooking the bay. Heather met us at the property when we arrived and showed us the fully stocked closet with bath and beach towels, chairs, fishing equipment and more. She told us about the closest grocery stores and restaurants - we took her recommendation to visit a new gelato place up the street and ended up going 3 times during our 5 night stay! AC in the main bedroom made sleeping very comfortable, and we loved the big shower head. Heather was very helpful when we had an issue with the security system and the water going out, due to construction next door - we never felt bothered by the construction, no early morning or late night interruptions! It was wonderful after spending a day in Willemstad or at the beaches on the west side to come "home" and relax in a hammock with a glass of wine. We truly feel regenerated after our trip to Curacao, and have Heather and Villa Hammaka to thank!

Winterhaven on Spanish Waters

The house is located in one of the best locations and views in Curaçao, and the website description and photographs are quite accurate. The host Heather couldn’t be more accommodating and communicative with any question or concern we had. We wish we could have more stars to provide to her in this review! Our only disappointment was related to some dog barking. It wasn’t all the time and it was only problematic here and there. Perhaps it’s the culture. Never late at night, so no issues with sleeping. The ability to swim off the dock, or just sit there with drinks and apps watching windsurfers or the sunset was beyond delightful. The warm weather allowed us to have dinner outdoors every night. We wouldn’t hesitate to wholeheartedly recommend this fabulous property. Thank you sincerely Heather (and Barry)!!

Amazing sunrise, beautiful breezes

We stayed at Villa Hammaka for the first part of our 12 day vacation on Curaçao. We also stayed on west side of island which is quieter but would recommend staying on both sides of island, we would do the same thing again. You can see the sunrise really well on villa Hammaka side, no sunrise views on west side. Partial view of sunsets at Villa Hammaka beautiful pink skies, full on view of sunsets on west side. The villa was very well stocked with plenty of towels and everything you need in the kitchen. The bed was very comfortable and really nice shower too, there was another bedroom but we didn't use it as it was only the 2 of us. We enjoyed grilling some steaks and burgers on the charcoal grill out on the deck. We enjoyed a day of swimming off the dock and laying on the floatie tied to the dock. In the mornings we would get up before sunrise and sit and watch the sun come up with our coffee and enjoyed the breezes and the sailboats. Close to nice beaches, restaurants, grocery stores and Willemstad to enjoy the city. At the end of the day it was nice to come and enjoy the breezes and lay in the hammock. Heather was lovely and very informative and always available for any questions we had. Thank you for a wonderful stay, we hope to be back.

Villa Hammaka Rocks!

This house has many positives that make it well worth taking a closer look for your Curaçao vacation rental! The house is located on a *secluded* lot on the Spanish Waters inlet, a place where boats & catamarans (flying flags of a variety of countries) come for safe harbor. There is also a nearby marina with sea kayaks, kite-surfing & SUPs (stand-up paddleboards) available to rent and a variety of activity on the water to entertain. Several points of interest nearby: the historical fort, shopping, restaurants, public parks & beaches and other activities. (We were there for scuba diving and found a couple of dive shops close by.) Your safety is a chief concern of the home owners, providing its occupants a real sense of security. The house is behind a remote-controlled gated entry and has lines-of-sight beams surrounding the perimeter as well as the house itself, to be secured each night before retiring. And, the security company may stop by if something is disrupting the beams (such a long towel blowing on the clothesline). The interior of the house is spacious without taking up a lot of real estate— a very efficient layout. 2 bedrooms, each with a king bed (ideal for a traveling couples) and private bath; and, a nicely equipped kitchen/living area. In addition, there are several outdoor spaces to be enjoyed—a large covered area w/ large dining table, a smaller table under the pergola right by the water, and yet more seating out at the end of the dock. We also appreciated the outdoor shower for rinsing off scuba/snorkel gear after use. Heather de Paulo was responsive to our Qs related to the house & tourist attractions—before & after arrival; and had some basic groceries waiting for us in the refrigerator since we were arriving very late. She also provided airport shuttles, since the house may be challenging to find for island first-timers. Don’t overlook the vehicle (Toyota RAV-4) that is offered—it was clean and can get around anywhere your touring may take you. It was a huge bonus to have waiting for us at the house and not have to deal with one more thing at the end of our long travel day getting to Curaçao. One down side: Construction started on the neighboring property mid-week with a couple days of lot-leveling excavator work. Hope it is over soon—the noise was not loud-- but constant and started about 7:15am and went until 5:45pm.

Ein Traum mit kleinem Riff unter der Haus-Steg

Wir haben den Aufenthalt in dem Ferienhaus von Heather sehr genossen. Das Haus liegt direkt in der Spanischen Lagune (spanish waters) in Curacao. Es ist alles da um sich selbst zu versorgen. Wir haben dort gefrühstückt und öfters abends selbst gekocht. Mit unserem Leihwagen haben wir das nächstgelegene Restaurant in 5 Minuten erreicht. Supermarkt in ca. 10 Minuten. (ohne Auto geht nichts) Unter dem hauseigenem Steg kann man super eine bunte Fisch- und Korallenwelt bestaunen. Die Gastgeberin Heather hat auf Fragen per WhatsApp immer sehr schnell und freundlich geantwortet. Super Gastgeberin. Wir haben den Urlaub in dem Ferienhaus und Curacao sehr genossen und können es jedem nur weiterempfehlen diese tolle Insel zu besuchen und am besten in diesem super tollen Ferienhaus.

Nice villa on Spanidh waters

Cette villa est située sur ce qu’on appelle la bas les Spanish Waters, un grand havre naturel qui abrite de nombreux bateaux et compte plusieurs marina. La villa est spacieuse, propre et fonctionnelle. La propriétaire, Heather, est facile à joindre et toujours disponible. Nous avons beaucoup apprécié son aide, la cuisine bien équipée, les chaises sur le bout du quai, les deux patios, les levées et couchers du soleil, les hamacs. On peut se baigner autour du quai mais le fond est en vase et herbes et doc pas très invitant. Nous avons habituellement préféré explorer les autres plages de l’ile. A améliorer: remplacer les bancs inconfortables en face de la télé par un sofa et ajouter des chaises longues.

Paradise Found!

We have just returned home from 5 glorious weeks at Villa Hammaka. The villa was absolutely perfect for 2 couples, each having your own king sized bed and bathroom. The property is extremely private and very well maintained. We made use of the charcoal BBQ and ate under the pergola on the deck every night. There is great snorkelling right off the dock and the water is so warm and quite calm. Heather, the owner, was so accommodating and super responsive to our requests or questions. She even picked us up at the airport and delivered us back when it was time to return home. She was lovely! We rented her vehicle which was great for sightseeing and traveling around the Island. I cannot say enough about our stay.....we will definitely be back!

Relax in paradise

Villa Hammaka is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the warm, breezy days in Curacao. The quiet cove and dock are the best place to start your day with your morning coffee or end your day with a glass of wine in the evening. Heather gave us lots of information about things to do on the island and nothing is very far away. The house was the right size for our family - nicely furnished, comfortable beds, everything very clean and neat. The kitchen is well equipped if you want to stay in and cook but there are many places to eat nearby.

Wonderful home, beautiful views and very relaxing!

We loved this home and loved our trip to Curacao! Heather and Barry were so helpful, responsive and made every effort to make our trip a great one! The home is even more beautiful than the pictures give it credit. You'll be blown away upon arrival. I would give 4.5 stars if I could, only negative were the power outages (we had two) which made it so we couldn't leave one day for a beach trip and one evening for dinner, due to the security gate not able to open. Other than that, this home and the owners are fantastic!

Lovely quiet clean perfect beachhouse

Great house, lovely garden, veranda and seaview, quiet, away from it all, great beds and shower. Friendly, well organised, owner. The house is even more lovely than the pictures show. We had a wonderful time here! A recommendation for families with children and restseeking couples!

Owners, Barry and Heather de Paulo, have been living on the island since 2005. Heather is an American and Barry is a local, both with plenty of experience and knowledge about the island to show tourists all that Curaçao has to offer! They have two children, both born on Curaçao.

Why they chose this property

Curaçao's waters have something special about them, and their unpredictability and beauty makes one feel a sense of awe and respect when he/she experiences their magic. The Spanish water inlet is extra special because there are few natural inlets like it on the island that allows one to enjoy this magic, irrespective of what's happening in the unpredictable sea "outside." I have had visitors come to the island to visit, and when we take them on the water and they see the "kabritu berg" and the other natural beauty of the area, their reaction is, "wow, you LIVE here?" We want to share this sense of awe, wonder and magic with you. Even though you will only be here for a short time, the hope is that the experience will stick with you and keep you wanting to come back for more.

What makes this property unique

On Curaçao, there are many small houses on the water that locals call, "weekend houses." Just little structures with not much more than a small kitchen/living area, a bathroom and maybe a separate bedroom or two. The idea is to escape from the grind of every day life and get out to the sea to immerse in nature, but only driving a short distance away. This house was one of those houses. It needed a complete renovation, but the "soul" of the house had something special, so we maintained the original feel of the house as much as possible. It's cozy, comfortable and will provide you with all the conveniences you need while giving you the feeling of escaping it all, providing you the opportunity to be at one with the Caribbean nature.
