Many thanks. So glad you enjoyed our recommendations in the Chianti and beyond!
Excellent hosts and property!! Within an hours drive to every place we wished to visit. Only a 30 minute train ride to central Florence. Weather was great and the fall color was something we do not experience in north Florida.

It was great to meet you. So glad you enjoyed your stay and got good weather. Although the days are shorter, November is a beautiful time to visit, catching the autumn colours on the vineyards.
We enjoyed nice holidays in that pittoresque environment in the middle of tuscany.
Cottage was very clean and cozy, equipped with everything neccessary.
The host Jane was extremely helpful and a nice person talking to.
There is not a thing I would change about our stay at this property. The property owners were more than helpful to make sure our time in Tuscany was a memorable one. The little touches were evident throughout our visit. And wonderful conversations with the owners.

Many thanks for your generous review. We were delighted to host you. I am so glad the weather was okay too - although it is early in the season, March is actually a great time to travel before things get too hot or overcrowded!
This was an ideal location to visit Florence, Pisa, Siena, Luca et al - most of Tuscany.
Train services to most of the above were easy, reasonably priced and efficient from this location - with free parking (who knew!!).
We do recommend this property.
The property was beautiful in the photos but, even better in person! The views, breathtaking.
The hosts were the icing on the cake!
Thank you to Jane and her wonderful husband.
You two are the best!
Everything about the villa was outstanding! If we could have remained for a month (or more), we would have. We loved the peaceful and beautiful view of the countryside, and after long days being tourists, returning to “our” place was so relaxing. Jane and Giampiero are the perfect hosts, and we enjoyed chatting with them. We also loved our visits from Jasmine and Peggy. All in all, we would return in a heartbeat.
Wat a beautiful location, it is like a postcard. We had a warm welkom from Jane. She and Jean-Pierro are very friendly pleasant people. Just like the friendly dog and cat. The house is just beautiful and has the comfort of 2 levels with 2 bathrooms. We enjoyed the several garden seating areas. The views are breathtaking and well worth the challenge of the road that leads tho this beautiful home. We highly recommend it.

Thank you for saying it is worth travelling the bumpy vineyard road to reach our house! I always aim to make sure people are aware about this when they book so it is not a surprise. I am so glad you and the family enjoyed staying here.
Jane is such an amazing and thoughtful host. She provided a robust guide to us as well as very clear directions so the house was easy to find. She and her family are incredibly friendly, always willing to answer questions and provide suggestions. The property is absolutely gorgeous with plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy views of rolling vineyards and Tuscan countryside. There are hiking trails around the property, including a trail leading to the Castle up the hill. Pontassieve is the nearest town, it is very charming and a nice escape from the madness of Florence. Look out for Peggy the cat and Jasmine the smiling dog!
This villa was like something out of an Italian movie. The breathtaking views and the gorgeous property was fantastic. The town gives you easy access to Florence by train or car. There is also a variety of restaurants locally as well. The main grocery store was modern , clean and well stocked. we did some cooking at home and eating on the upper and lower patio was delightful.
We traveled all through Tuscany and used this villa as home base. we could have noT asked for a better experience. thank you Jane and John Peter for your kindness, insights and loan of your beautiful villa! We plan to come back again and again!

I am so happy that the house proved a good base for the 4 of you on your two week Tuscan holiday. You certainly chose a beautiful time of year when the flowers are at their best!
It was a fabulous visit to Florence and Tuscany! Jane and Gianpiero are excellent hosts. They provided suggestions of local areas to visit, did some early food shopping for us, assisted in making dinner reservations at wonderful restaurants and located a local cook who came to the villa and made incredible Tuscan meals on two occasions. I cannot say enough about the villa, a 15th century fortress with twenty first century accommodations and fabulous views of the Tuscan countryside--which only made our afternoon cocktail hour more enjoyable.
The villa is 25 minutes from Florence by train; and is a perfect starting point to enjoy the Tuscan region by car.

Not a place to stay and eat dinner out in Florence
Difficult to find, directions not good. Difficult to stay and eat dinner out and find your way back. Left three days early no refund for days not stayed. At time of booking we’re not told we had to stay a week and tried to change reservation and we’re no allowed to change it. A week is too long. No way was it a 15 minute walk to the castle.

I am so sorry that our place was not right for you. We have been hosting for 15 years and in most cases successfully meet or even exceed our guests’ expectations as evidenced by the many positive reviews. I have therefore thought deeply about your review and why you felt disappointed.
Prior to arrival I think I did not pick up on your assumption that our area, being half an hour from Florence, is almost like a suburb of the city. In fact the countryside all around Florence is genuinely rustic and in many ways lives independently of the city, with its own restaurants, shops and markets.
Orientation is a little more demanding in the countryside. We do not have a conventional street address and so I always send detailed arrival instructions which I urge guests to read before departure. Most use their GPS or phone app to arrive within 5 minutes of our place and then follow my written instructions. Unfortunately your GPS was not operative. We made telephone contact and I drove out to meet you, but the driving, particularly at night, remained an issue for you.
You do need a car to stay here. Our property is on a wine-producing estate. I always write to guests immediately after booking explaining the location and the need for a car. I also describe that we are reached by a 1km farm road through the vineyards. Most guests arrive in rental cars, even smaller models, without problem, but I explicitly describe the road so guests know what to expect.
Finally, from your review it seems like you felt locked into the booking. You enquired about shortening the stay two months before arrival. This was not possible because of the 7 night minimum. You were, however, comfortably within time to take a full refund and book an alternative location. We operate VRBO’s Relaxed Cancellation Policy which allows a full refund up to 14 days before arrival.
I remain sorry for your disappointment. I hope this reply is helpful to future potential guests in making their vacation rental choice.
Villa di Sopra is a very nicely converted old stone building in a beautiful, tranquil setting, set within the wonderful vineyards and rolling hillsides of Tuscany. A perfect location to recharge your batteries and enjoy a glass of local wine as the sun goes down, but equally a great base to explore all the fascinating sights and cities within reasonable driving distance. We took a train to Florence, an easy 30 mins from the local station, and drove to Siena, Vinci, Arezzo, Assisi and Cortona, luckily arriving in Cortona on one of their festival days. There are lovely walks in the countryside straight from the Villa, and during our stay in June plenty of wild flowers out in bloom. Check forecasts though in case thunder is expected. We got caught out and arrived back looking like drowned rats! The hosts Jane and Giampiero are lovely and welcoming, providing expert and helpful advice on what to see and where to eat, or just having a natter about their wonderful home. Will we go back?….I think you know the answer 😊
Truly the most perfect, relaxing, magical stay at Borgo di Sopra!
I cannot say enough good things about Borgo di Sopra and our wonderful hosts, Jane and Giampiero! From the moment we arrived (much later in the day than planned due to travel delays), Jane and Giampiero did everything to make sure our stay was perfect. From a toasty fire lit in the hearth to a pantry stocked with a few requested groceries, they were so incredibly kind and ensured we had everything we needed throughout our month-long stay.
Perfectly situated just a short drive to the local train station, Florence is a quick trip away and Pontessieve has everything you need for your vacation. The kitchen is well appointed and perfect for cooking anything you can think of, the beds and furniture are cozy and comfortable, and the view is unparalleled.
Jane’s book of recommendations is full of great tips for exploring and making the most of your time in Tuscany (definitely take her advice and book a wine tasting at Castello Nipozzano! The wine is amazing and the snacks are more like a delicious meal, perfect for lunch!).
I can’t imagine staying anywhere else in Tuscany and we can’t wait to go back!
This review could be 1000 words long and I still don’t think I’d be able to convey how much we loved our stay at Borgo di Sopra!
Thank you thank you thank you Jane and Giampiero!

Thank you for your hugely generous words. I think we cannot take all the credit though! By staying in deepest winter you chose a fabulous time to travel. I think you saw a few snowflakes in January but February was a treat.
For the last few years it has proved to be a month of gorgeous weather with perfect, cloudless skies. It might be freezing at night, but the days are stunning... and there are fewer tourists about! This year was no exception and I am delighted you got to enjoy it.
This was a “friends trip” our first together and it was just perfect. We came for the “experience “ and we got our money’s worth. The scenic photos paled in comparison to the reality of the views. The villa is pretty and quaint old world charm.
Jane the owner, was very responsive and even coordinated a wine tasting at the castle (do this!), a personal cook and stocked the fridge (do this too). Be sure to ask to arrange for things you might want ready for you when you arrive (paper products, napkins, etc). She’ll gladly answer any questions.
Jane was on holiday during our stay and her friend Martyn and his wife took care of us beyond belief. Including saying up after midnight to guide us in by flashlight - not kidding. Long story he can share. Martyn and his wife shared their area knowledge and hooked us up with a charming restaurant in Rufina - we were the only non-locals…just what we wanted.
Pontassieve train station is nearby we drove there and we took train in to Florence. We also shopped at co-op which we easily navigated.
We’re still talking about the experience weeks later. Highly recommend.
If I tell you about this property, it will be harder for me to book it... it's perfect!
We stayed 7 nights on this lovely property and fully intend to stay here again.
Jane is a marvel. She's extraordinarily communicative on WhatsApp and helpful in arranging reservations. Her restaurant recommendations, both in the countryside and in Florence were A+++. Jane stocked our fridge before we arrived and helped with any random questions we had during our stay.
The property itself is immaculate and lovely. There are other properties associated with this rental so you will see other people, but it's set up in such a way that you really have privacy in the unit. Your view of the vineyards and Pontassieve in the distance are completely private. We enjoyed quiet, romantic dinners outside, took our coffee in the morning in complete silence, set laundry to dry, etc. Do not be concerned about the proximity of other renters... you won't notice them.
It was just the two of us, and we found the downstairs bedroom to be naturally cooler without running the A/C, so we chose to sleep there. If you're traveling with a larger party the upstairs bedroom has A/C. The fact we had two full bathrooms made my wife very happy. The kitchen/dining room is enormous and fully stocked. We had no problem shopping in Pontassieve and cooking meals.
What about the location--what's to say? It's perfect. We drove all over Tuscany and looked forward to "coming home" every night. It's a quick train to Florence. We even shot up to Venice for once night with ease. 10/10!

Thank you for such a lovely review. You have really made my day!
So schön entspannend

About the host
Hosted by Jane
I live at Borgo di Sopra with my family. I am English and my husband is Italian with a lifetime's knowledge of Tuscany. We have been welcoming guests since 2008 and are Premium Partners of VRBO. Times have changed but we have always worked to make our guests feel at home here. Nowadays that means a particular attention to health safety, I personally oversee the housekeeping, with attentive cleaning in the 48 hour window between every rental. We use professionally laundered linens. We are happy to share our local knowledge with you and help you get the most out of your stay in this part of Italy.
Why they chose this property
The location is all. We have fabulous south-facing views across a vineyard that is cared for like a garden. The light changes constantly and at the end of the day, the view is always gorgeous. Although you feel miles from anywhere there is in fact a really efficient, busy town just 6 minutes away. Pontassieve has a great supermarket, restaurants and shops. It is not at all touristy. There is a excellent train service into central Florence too. You can even just go in for the morning and return for lunch!
What makes this property unique
Gorgeous, peaceful location on prestigious Chianti Rufina wine estate. Elegantly fitted, well-equipped house. You feel a million miles from Florence, and yet it is only half an hour away. Great commuter train service from the nearby town of Pontassieve. Wine tastings at the Castello di Nipozzano within walking distance.
