Pete and I moved to Cornwall to embrace the peace, beauty and slower pace of life that this stunning county offers — and it’s something we love sharing with our guests.
Since opening The Lodge in March 2018, we’ve welcomed visitors from across the UK and as far afield as Australia, many of whom return for the tranquillity and comfort it provides.
Cornwall is a truly special place, full of breathtaking scenery, beautiful beaches and unforgettable days out. The Lodge itself offers a peaceful escape with lovely countryside views, yet is perfectly located for exploring some of the area’s best attractions, including the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project, as well as charming coastal villages and harbours nearby.
Whether you’re looking to relax and unwind or explore everything Cornwall has to offer, we hope your stay leaves you with wonderful memories.
The Lodge is ideally located in the charming village of Polgooth, a historic former mining village just a short walk away and around three miles from the picturesque harbour town of Mevagissey.
In Polgooth, you’ll find a well-stocked village shop and Post Office offering a great selection of local produce, including freshly baked bread, traditional Cornish pasties, fruit, vegetables and everyday essentials. The village is also home to the popular Polgooth Inn — a traditional Cornish pub serving hearty home-cooked food and local ales. In the summer, you can enjoy live music on Sunday evenings, while in winter the cosy open fires make it the perfect place to unwind.
A number of beautiful beaches are just a short drive away. Porthpean Beach is a lovely sandy bay and a great starting point for coastal walks, including the scenic route to Charlestown Harbour — a Georgian harbour often used as a filming location, including for Poldark. Here you can explore the Shipwreck Museum, see traditional tall ships, and enjoy a selection of cafés, shops and restaurants.
Nearby Pentewan Sands offers another expansive sandy beach, along with access to a peaceful off-road walking and cycling trail that leads either to the coast or the beautiful Lost Gardens of Heligan.
For those looking to explore further, the stunning Roseland Peninsula is within easy reach, offering hidden coves, quiet beaches and unspoilt fishing villages — perfect for discovering a more tranquil side of Cornwall.

About the host

Pete, my partner, and I moved to Cornwall from Kent in 2015 to get away from it all. When we saw our house with its outstanding views across the valley, we instantly fell in love with it. We enjoy watching the birds and have explored many beaches and lovely quaint villages since we have been here.
Cornwall is a beautiful county where guests will take home many happy memories of their stay.
