About this property

Restored farmhouse in heart of chianti with swimming pool and tennis court.

Granaio is a tiny village composed of four groups of houses and a little church on top of a hill in the heart of Chianti, near Castellina.

It used to be a farm village but the houses have all been restored as holiday houses and now there is a swimming pool with a fantastic view over the hills and a tennis court.

It is a very quiet and peaceful place, at Granaio you can read, paint, swim or play tennis, go for walks or go sightseeing along the old Chianti road. Siena and S.Gimignano are less than 30 minutes away, Florence and Volterra less than an hour’s drive.

At Granaio you will need a car, so you can either come by car or rent one at the airport when you arrive. The nearest shopping centre is at Poggibonsi, which is 7 Km. away from the village.

How to reach Granaio from Pisa Airport: 1)Follow the signs to Florence. Before you arrive in Florence take the Autostrada (motorway) “A1” Milano-Roma and go towards Roma. You leave it, soon after, at the exit “Firenze Impruneta”. As soon as you are out of the motorway you turn right towards SIENA (Superstrada, not a motorway but a dual-carriage fast road).

2) Follow this road for about 30 Km and exit at POGGIBONSI NORD. At the roundabout go towards “Poggibonsi centro”. Go straight on for less than 1 Km. and then turn left on the VIA CHIANTIGIANA (it is not a big road). Follow the Via Chiantigiana for about 7 Km.. You will see a (beautiful) church called “Cedda” on your right, then the “Chianti Melini’s farm”, again on your right. Slow down now, after 300 m. turn left on the next gravel road located at the side of a curve. Follow this road for 2 Km. and you will soon see “Granaio”.

Beautiful

Lovely quiet place in the countryside but still close to everything. Enjoyed exploring the towns and wineries nearby. Lots of great restaurants around where we had some very memorable meals.

Granaio

This is a perfect property for a couple or small family. The directions Alessandra provided (including pictures) and instructions on how to self-check-in were perfect. The localita road to Granaio is a little bumpy, and on reflection we would have hired a car with slightly better suspension to a Fiat Panda. That said, it wasn't a difficult drive. The house is well appointed and the kitchen particularly has everything you need for cooking full meals is that's what want to do (as I did). Alessandra is a wonderful host and was happy to answer all my daft questions via WhatsApp while we were there. It's worth noting that we travelled to Siena and Florence via train from Poggibonsi and this was both inexpensive and convenient.

Fabulously remote location

We loved our stay at Granaio. It is located on a hilltop surrounded by forests, grapes and olive trees. The “driveway” is a gravel road almost 2km long with a steep grade (1st gear as you near the top) arrive before dark on your first day. We rented a small car and had zero problems getting around. We went out everyday and mostly came back after dark. GPS worked really well and Alessandra’s directions were flawless! There are steep steps from parking to door and steps in apartment. Wifi was a little slow but you are remote and the trade off is the view! The apartment is charming. Decorated with local things and gorgeous antique furniture. The kitchen has everything you need with washing machine. The bathroom is small but clean. The pool looked nice, we didn’t swim but others did. The apartment has a lovely back terrace covered in wisteria and huge rosemary plants, olive tree and a walnut tree. We were visited by a gorgeous fluffy orange cat eat morning on the terrace who came and went. This is a peaceful restorative place to stay. There are local restaurants within 6-7 km. We loved Castellina in Chianti for multiple nearby dinner options. Siena about 35 minute drive and many vineyards everywhere!

Wir hatten einen fantastischen Urlaub! Das Haus ist ein altes Bauernhaus mit viel Charme (aber alles tipptopp in Ordnung, nichts ‚oll‘!) und super ausgestattet (wir haben in der Küche überhaupt nichts vermisst und Kühlschrank, Tiefkühler, Spülmaschine, Waschmaschine funktionieren super!). Die überwachsene Terrasse ist selbst an heißen Tagen noch gut nutzbar und die Aussicht ist fantastisch. Pool und Tennisplatz sind unkompliziert nutzbar und supernah (aber nicht störend sichtbar). Und die Vermieterin ist super-unkompliziert und hilfsbereit. Von uns gibt’s hier klar 10 von 10 Punkten - uneingeschränkte Empfehlung. :-)

Un logement au charme fou dans un environnement exceptionnel

Cette ancienne ferme très bien équipée, et sa grande terrasse avec vue sur une splendide campagne toscane nous a permis de passer un délicieux séjour. Tout est à portée de voiture : Florence, Sienne, San Gimignano, et Castellina pour les dégustations de Chianti. Nous avons bien profité du tennis, et un peu de la piscine.

La maison est très bien aménagée, très propre, et l'emplacement est bien situé à mi-chemin entre Florence et Sienne. On est entre forêt et vignoble, à proximité de Poggibonsi, ville où on peut trouver à se ravitailler aisément. Que demander de plus ?

Un petit coin perdu mais au milieu de tout.

Granaio est le compromis idéal pour ceux qui recherchent calme, nature, sport, culture, gastronomie... Sa situation géographique le place à distance et temps raisonnables de tout. La gare proche de Poggibonsi et ses trains réguliers pour les villes alentours à découvrir ou impérativement est un atout supplémentaire. A Granaio, chacun trouve son compte. Et c'est sans compter, en plus, sur la sympathie et la disponibilité d'Alessandra qui simplifiera votre séjour. Et que dire de l'ambiance de l'hébergement tout équipé et authentique à la décoration très soignée et d'excellent goût. Toute l'Italie est à Granaio! Exceptée peut-être la mer, mais que la piscine et sa situation font bien vite oublier... La dolce vita!

Magnifique maison de famille en Toscane

Alessandra a une superbe maison dans laquelle on se sent bien. Tout le confort moderne avec le charme de l’ancien , piscine, tennis , cigales et collines boisées . Enfin Alessandra est très à l’écoute et toujours disponible. Je recommande les yeux fermés.

Heerlijk romantisch ingerichte vakantiewoning

Fijn huis, erg compleet, romantisch ingericht. Ruim en zeer schoon. Fantastische locatie, groot gezamenlijk zwembad, goed verzorgde tennisbaan in een rustige omgeving met wijds uitzicht. De laatste 1,5 km naar het huis ervaarden wij als avontuurlijk maar gebruikten deze met veel plezier. Wij vinden dit huis op deze locatie een echt aanrader!

Un endroit de rêve!

Alessandra est très gentille et s’est assurée de notre confort dès notre arrivée. L’endroit est un peu reculé, mais le détour vaut amplement la peine après une grosse journée à visiter les villes de la région. Nous avons fait de belles rencontres à la piscine, beaucoup de plaisir aussi sur le terrain de tennis! Nous avons bien profité de la table extérieure à l’ombre, parfaite pour le Spritz du retour!

Wir haben eine wunderschöne Woche in der Toskana erleben können. Die Wohnung ist sehr schön, v.a. die mit einem Laubdach versehene Terasse ermöglicht einen angenehmen Aufenthalt auch an heissen Tagen. Sehr nette und zuvorkommende Vermieterin, alles war wunderbar - sehr gerne kommen wir wieder.

Holiday at Castellina in Chianti.

We have had a very good holiday at Castellina in Chianti. The communication with the owner, before arrival and during our stay, was excellent. The description to arrive at the house was spot on and also questions ask during our stay were answered on the spot. The furnishings of the house is such that we felt immediately at home. As an example all kitchen utensils you can dream of are there. Same applies for the outdoor terrace. I nice big table for meals and comfortable chairs to sit and read a book or just to relax in the sun. Pool and tennis court were at our disposal as much as we wanted. Both is good order. Castellina in Chianti is a perfect location to explore Tuscany. Siena, Florence, Pisa etc. are all relative close by and are certainly worth a visit. Gracie mille Alessandra
