We boast one of the world's largest estuarine systems. Darien/McIntosh County is situated in a beautiful, unspoiled, ecological location that is virtually unrivaled in the state for the natural habitats that abound. Here is ‘Nature’s Favorite Coast!” The tidewaters are the nursery of the ocean…tiny shrimp, crustaceans and all species of fish! Spring finds dozens of baby dolphins in the Intra-coastal Waterway, learning to fish with their mothers and pods. Over 350 species of migratory birds can be found here making it a premier birding area. While we know you will find your favorite place in history whether it be Fort King George, Ashantilly or the Old Jail, Butler Plantation and rice fields along with the Huston House mansion, historic old churches, cemeteries, and tabby ruins on the waterfront; our best advice is sure to be dining on local cuisine at one of our restaurants, events or festivals. Sapelo Island makes for a wonderful day trip, but you must plan ahead for the tour and ferry trip. Don't miss Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge. Harris Neck NWR provides premier nesting, foraging, and wintering habitat for a diversity of wildlife. Signature species include threatened wood storks, which nest in a large colony on Woody Pond, and the colorful and uncommon painted bunting. Immerse yourself in a world where flowers bloom in every season, birds and butterflies abound and enjoy the small coastal town interests and environment.

Vrbo guests, please please communicate with your host regarding any oversights or malfunctions. Your hosts are very accommodating and want to know. Wouldn’t you, if you were the host and aimed to please the guests that follow you? This 400sf cozy cottage is adorable and the environment serene. The neighbors are very welcoming.

Quiet get-away

Pleasant one-bedroom house with beautiful oaks towering overhead, close to marshes. Appreciated the remote location while easily being able to take advantage of parks, islands, wildlife refuges and restaurants when we wished.

Long Weekend Getaway

The property was in a quiet neighborhood. The house needed a little more cleaning. The screened in front porch had a lot of spiderwebs, so we didn’t sit out on it. Thought it was closer to water. Close to beaches and good restaurants.

Lovely retreat with great birding

This is our second time staying at Oaks of Eden. It is well-named - the live oaks at the property and forest nearby are spectacular and full of birds. The cottage is very comfortable, laid out well, everything one would need is there, and the back porch is screened. The only poorly functioning item was the coffee maker, which took more than an hour to brew a pot of coffee.

Amazing!

The pictures don't do this cottage justice! It's nestled beneath big beautiful oaks! You can smell the salt from the marsh just behind you and enjoy the deer who freely roam around! It was a great place for our 3 month stay!

It was a nice out of the way spot that was super quiet. Wish could have stayed longer. Will admit Google doesn't make it easy to find but don't know that's the renter's fault ;) Thank you for everything.

The perfect spot for birders

The cottage was small, but very efficient and had everything we needed, though a few more water glasses would be a good addition. The grounds are spectacular with huge live oak trees. We found Pileated Woodpeckers, in addition to others and Yellow Throated Warblers up in the canopy. We had Chuck-Will's-Widow calling in the early morning. It is close to the State Wildlife Management Area just south of Darien, and about 40 minutes south of the Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge.

Glad you enjoyed your stay. Wonderful birding near the cottage (a lot of folks miss that) and in the immediate area. Harris Neck wildlife refuge is the best and only 16 miles from the cottage. The expansive management area just south of Darien is a wonderful place to view wildlife as well. Jan

Cute guest cottage, great property

Quiet little guest cottage located on some acreage that adjoins the main house and workshop. Its nicely located close to fishing, restaurants, boat ramps and a quick drive to historical locations. We were hopeful that we would have a view of the marsh, however there was none from the cottage. A short walk back to the main house (providing the family gives the OK) there is an overlook for a great sunset view. Also a short walk for addition beautiful views along the quiet road. Small house provided everything we needed, full kitchen & bath, 1 bedroom and a pull out sofa or enough room for a twin sized air mattress (which we brought for our kid). TV has a DVD player - i mention this because we did not pay attention to that and wish we would've brought some movies. We were only at the cabin at night as we were exploring during the day. Great place for dogs - lots of room to play. We really enjoyed it. (We stayed the week between Christmas and New Years - needed the heat, worked great!)

Dus

Only stayed one night as Place was dusty and moldy smelling and seemed as though it had not been stayed in for awhile. So lost a night I paid for. Had to keep opening doors to air it out. Cobwebs in kitchen and bathroom and no toilet paper except 1/4 roll. Is a great little place near Sapelo Island in the woods near marsh. Just got me sneezing and coughing which would resolve when I left the home. Unfortunately it is the only unsatisfying VRBO stay I have ever had. I reserved 48 hrs ahead of my arrival and perhaps was not enough time for owners to air out and dust and prepare for guests.

I am so very sorry this property did not meet your satisfaction and that you chose to leave before communicating any problems to me. TP is an easy fix. There is meant to be extra under the bathroom counter but can always stop by with more. This was an obvious over site. Just need to be informed of a problem to fix it. The cottage had not been used in 3 weeks. During that time a new heating/AC unit was installed. Myself, the owner and two people sensitive to environmental allergies went into the cottage looking for mold/dust problem. No one could come up with anything out of the ordinary. As a precaution the housekeeper has since cleaned all sliding door and windows tracks as dust and grime will build up on occasion. The bathroom ceiling fan had some dust around it and has been cleaned. Again, I am so very sorry this property did not suit. I wish you had communicated any problems before leaving.

Simple Perfection

Upon arrival I was warmly greeted by Jan, the manager. She took me to the cottage via golf cart escort and invited me to a spontaneous low country boil the neighborhood was doing that night, so I wouldn't have to cook, so sweet. The cottage was clean, cozy, had a great kitchen fully stocked with a gas stove, beautiful views out the back sliding glass doors to the gorgeous old oaks with hanging Spanish moss--the view from my "office" while staying there several months. Bikes provided which allowed me to ride everywhere throughout the community, including to the Sapelo Island ferry. The town of Darien, famous for its shrimping, is nearby where you can buy your groceries, along with waterfront restaurants. I met neighbors that will be long time friends, spent many Saturday nights at Bill's fires, enjoying the warmth of the people and wine! The owner's were staying at their home nearby and it was lovely getting to know them. Jan's response to any needs was professional and immediate. I plan to return to this haven of serenity and beauty many times more. Thanks everyone for your Southern hospitality!
