About this property
Longleaf Cottage Bed & Breakfast- Pet Friendly - Heated Pool - 41 Mile Bike Path
Longleaf Cottage & Breakfast / 2500 Square Foot Cottage / 2 Bedrooms / 1 Bath / 1 Acre Fenced Yard for Pet Dogs / 90 degree Heated - 40 Foot Private Salt Water Pool:
This historic circa 1910 cottage is an antique furnished home steps away from the 41 mile bike trail known as the Long Leaf Trace. “Longleaf Cottage” is centrally located and is the second oldest home in nostalgic and quaint Sumrall, Mississippi. The house was owned by a Vaudeville artist and sold to my grandparents in 1933.
The home is located on four town lots ( ~ 1 acre) with a large oak tree, organic vegetable and flower gardens. There is ample room for privacy to read, relax and enjoy the sounds of nature. The house has a covered front porch complete with rocking chairs. There are decorative water fountains on the front porch to add that soothing sounds of nature needed for every vacation. The entire yard is fenced for a totally safe environment for your pets. The 40 foot salt water swimming pool is heated to 90 degrees for year round swimming. Pets in the pool are not permitted.
Longleaf Cottage has a master bedroom with a king size bed and walk-in closet. The guest bedroom has a queen size bed. The house has one full bathroom with shower and tub. There is a formal living room, formal dining room and large primary commercial kitchen (gas range) and prep kitchen (electric range) with all the necessary amenities for a gourmet chef. I have included all my kitchen necessities so my guests can entertain and cook for large gatherings at the cottage for their special occasions if they should choose.
A sun porch occupies the south side of the cottage with a deck for relaxing. The deck area has an electric smoker, gas and charcoal grill. For winter, I have three commercial propane outdoor heaters for your comfort.
There is a 65 inch HD TV located in the sun porch room and also a 65 inch HD TV by the swimming pool. There is a laundry room with a full size washer / dryer and butler's pantry. The backyard is private and fenced with outside seating for family and friends. I added bird feeding stations for my Audubon Society guests. All feeding stations are provided with ample bird food each day to ensure regular visits from our local and migrating species.
A menu for your vacation can be provided upon arrival or you can provide your own menu for specialized meals at the cottage. Specific beverages are provided for your stay that can ensure quality time by the pool or strolling on the grounds enjoying nature.
The town of Sumrall is located approximately 17.9 miles from Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Sumrall, pre-civil war, was known for its virgin pine tree lumber. It was a part of the Mississippi area known as the "Pine Belt." After the civil war, Sumrall was settled by Union soldiers and became a thriving center known for its diverse culture. The city had a large lumber mill, cotton gin and farmer's market.
Nearby is the City of Hattiesburg which is home to the University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey University. Commuting distance is approximately 27 minutes from highways 42 or 589 from Sumrall to Hattiesburg. Hattiesburg has two hospitals known as Forrest General and Wesley Medical Center. Hattiesburg has numerous restaurants, theaters and unlimited shopping potential.
The town of Sumrall has one family grocery store, two pharmacies, three discount variety stores, two banks and three (non-emergency) medical clinics. Restaurants in Sumrall are Fajita's Mexican, Lau Tori's (family style dining), Little Mack’s Catfish, Fox's Pizza, Ward's Burgers, Doughnut Shop and Subway. The town has several gas stations and two full service banks with ATMs.
Sumrall is now home to one of the largest eco-friendly solar power farms in the country. The Town is contiguous to a bike, hiking and horse trail which was formerly a train track known as the "Longleaf Trace”. The “Trace” is part of the "tracks to trails" eco-sysyem and provides excellent hiking and biking from Hattiesburg to Collins, Mississippi. Lastly, but not least, Sumrall has several antique stores located on Main Street.
This is my home-away-from-home escape when I'm in Mississippi. It is filled with loving memories and wonderful getaways with my family and has been updated with every comfort needed for a much needed respite. Hope you enjoy the “Longleaf Cottage & Breakfast” as much as I do when vacationing in Mississippi.
Breakfast, lunch and supper menus available upon request.
Cheers! Jo

About the host
Hosted by Jo
Hi there. I am the owner and manage all the rentals. My expectation is to ensure guest experience a home away from home atmosphere without any worries. I have lived in numerous locations and wanted folks, like me, to have the comforts of home with the nostalgia of the past when traveling. Cheers!
Why they chose this property
I make sure you have everything you need while traveling or a seasonal guest at the cottage. The cottage is spacious and decorated beautifully with antiques from its era. The cottage was constructed in 1910 and has had three owners since inception. The house belonged to my grandparents who purchased the home from a Vaudeville actor in 1915. It has been renovated for historical accuracy. You will not be disappointed in this comfortable setting and will experience the hospitality of the South.
What makes this property unique
Sumrall Miss was my home town. It is a quiet community and friendly to all who travel through the area. The cottage has been cared for and renovated to capture the early years of the 1900s when my grandparents purchased the home. You have privacy but will also have the comforts of a small town. The Long Leaf Trace, a bike and walking trail, is just steps from the cottage. Shopping and antique dealers are located on Main Street which is two blocks south of the cottage.
