Please note: There is a pond the garden, 100 yards away.. The Coach House is situated in the village of Bootle on a working farm, in western Cumbria, just 1 mile from the beach. It was originally used to garage the horse drawn coach, and the owner lives next door, and even had a piggery on the side! It’s now been converted into the lovely, detached cottage it is today and in front of The Coach House is a rectory. Built in 1839 on the site of a previous Tudor building which, being constructed of wood, burnt down leaving only the cellars intact, which are still in use today. Coniston Water, the quieter western fells of the Lake District, can be accessed for fabulous walking opportunities for all abilities. Golf is available locally at Seascale and Silecroft, and the nearest train station is at Bootle itself, only a 15-minute walk away with links to both Carlisle in the north and Lancaster in the south, so leave the car at home and head out for the day. Ravenglass, home of the narrow gauge railway fondly known as ’La’al Ratty’ is just 8 miles away and provides fun for all ages along the 7-mile stretch of railway line passing through stunning scenery. There are two riding stables within 10 miles. Beach 1 mile. Shop 200 yards, pub serving food 5 miles.

There is open water in the property grounds.

A lovely peaceful retreat, well equipped cottage in stunning grounds.

A lovely peaceful retreat, well equipped cottage in stunning grounds. It’s a good base for Coniston and Wast Water. The only thing I’d change is invest in a couple of 2 seater sofas, as the lounge furniture is not comfortable after a long day hiking.

Lovely cottage in a peaceful and convenient location for Western Lakes and coast.

Lovely cottage in a peaceful and convenient location for Western Lakes and coast. Lucky with weather, fabulous week. Beds and linen extremely comfortable, lovely large kitchen and lounge.Constant background noise from stream, sadly couldn't sit outside as garden overrun, but lovely garden and allotment for walking the dog. Beware of friendly owners dogs as their droppings are often left outside the cottage.Recommend Old Brown Cow Pub just down road...looks run downbut food both superb and great value for money.Millom run down, Haverigg beach...lovely cafe. Will return as location for me is perfect.

Lovely location, interesting cottage.

Lovely location, interesting cottage. 10 minute drive to a lovely beach, perfect for the dog. Cottage is very nice but would definitely benefit from more relaxing, comfortable seating in the living room. Other than that, it was comfortable, well equipped and with a lovely conservatory.

Hidden treasure

The coach house is a pleasant and practical place to stay, however, it is a little dated in the living room, sofas rather than individual chairs would be better. Also the noise from people moving around upstairs is terrible the floors need to be looked at as this kept us awake/disturbed in the downstairs bedroom. A welcome pack would have been nice, just some basics like tea, coffee, sugar and milk. Overall it was a great place to stay set in a beautiful location and the hosts were lovely people.

Stay at the Coachhouse

Good cottage in a very quiet village on a working farm . We enjoyed the accommodation, nice lounge with a fireplace, good sized kitchen and bedrooms . We however had to drive elsewhere for activities as there is very little to do in Bootle .

This beautiful property is ideally located for those wishing to have a peaceful, tranquil break.

This beautiful property is ideally located for those wishing to have a peaceful, tranquil break. It also has plenty of local places to visit and is an ideal base from which to explore the lovely Lake District. Joan and Mike made us feel very welcome. Joan took our two boys on a tour of the grounds where there were amazing gardens to explore, including a pond, and acres of farmland with sheep, pigs, ducks, geese etc. The boys went out with Joan several times to feed the animals and said this was an incredible experience - they can't wait to come back. It's rare for us all to find somewhere on holiday where we instantly relax and instantly feel at home. We can't wait to go back.
