This listing is a rustic cabin with a small loft for sleeping. There is no bathroom, no electricity, no running water and no refridgeration. Too darned rustic for a couple in their 70's with 2 dogs. The owner, Andrew, was kind, and helpful with location questions and responses. He did offer to refund our payment, has not happened as of today.

For the most part you’re camping so things are not hotel cleanliness. That I expected. The owners are clear and upfront about not having the time to clean after every stay. I had found the cabin to be clean enough. I did find some cookware outside the cabin that I ended up cleaning because it’s the right thing to do, and a couple things inside that could have been cleaner. I’m not fussy, but a little OCD so I see some things that most don’t really care about. Just expect you may need to clean a little if you are the same way. I appreciate blankets and pillows being stocked, but rather sleep with my own bedding. The cabins really cool and unique and slept great at night. I travelled with my son from Boston to Philly and through the Poconos before settling here for the last 2 nights of our week round trip. It was a spectacular time and found the camp and other places to be an amazing experience. I would love to return to explore more around the Catskills. Thanks Chloe for sharing the cabin!

Perfect Peaceful Getaway

We had a great time at the cabin! It was the perfect escape from the city. The view was gorgeous, and the cabin had everything we needed. We also tried to use the canoe but the padlock is stuck, it might be rusted/need to be replaced. Otherwise everything was perfect!

A step up from tent camping

A quirky tiny cabin off the beaten path but in need of some upkeep, e.g. toilet not fully attached to the floor in the Tipi room, water has sulphur smell. We were only there for an overnight stay, and I sent a note once we were home, so hopefully the owners get a chance to fix things up! Pricey for its current condition.

A cozy place

If you need a cozy place to get away from everything, and not spend an arm and a leg, this is the place for you. A great place to drink a beer (or wine), grill something and hangout on the porch next to a the fire pit. Woodstock is close by if you prefer to to go out for a meal or drinks. We recommend Peakamoose restaurant in Big Indian (Rt. 28) if you wish for amazing food and wine. As the owners say, this is really a camping cabin. So bring your, candles, lamp, water, TP etc. - Bjorg & Sanjee

This was definitely a unique and special experience. I think because the hosts don’t come to clean between every stay you so have to be a bit flexible with your definition of cleanliness. I loved that it was out in nature but there were homes nearby. As a single woman it made me feel safer. The pond/lake is lovely and the toilet and shower were adequate for ‘glamping’. The water that comes out there does have a strong sulfuric smell but there’s a another well by the cabin that’s cleaner smelling. The hosts were helpful with answering questions. I’d definitely recommend.

A quiet night in the woods

Rustic, but perfect. The cabin is nothing fancy, but sure is cozy and comfortable. Water from the pump was cold and tasted great. Nice bed in the loft. I slept with the upper screen open and the front door open and screen door hooked in place. Nice cool night. I thoroughly enjoyed pitching a fire and watching it get dark and listening to the woods. Had fun calling back to an owl and listening to bullfrogs down in the pond. Stirred up a buck in the morning. Just beautiful out there. Hot/cold showers at the tipi site did the job!

Horrible experience requiring a refund!!

Ignore this bogus listing! The heat and water were not working (35° night), there was no firewood, the "200ft" walk to the filthy bathroom/kitchen (same room) was a 1/4 mile rocky slippery hike. Many texts, VRBO messages and emails were ignored..

This guest was unique in our experience.,i having hosted more than 1,500 guests in the past 15 years at our several properties. His messages were rude and profane. There was a problem with the heat, but no excuse for his nastiness. Has the behavior and language of some political candidates corrupted the discourse in our country? If so, hopefully we can bid them farewell come November.

A wonderful wilderness retreat

I absolutely loved my stay at "A Place in the Woods." It was just what I needed on a little getaway. It's a short drive away from Woodstock, Saugerties and the Ashokan Reservoir so I spent most of my days exploring those parts. I also went hiking in nearby Hunter Mountain. It was wonderful to sit out on the porch and enjoy the sunset hours. My last evening there, I watched 3 deer and a small (harmless looking) black bear run by the lake. I also saw a coyote in the woods. It was so cool. The cabin itself is kept up very nicely. It's quaint and cozy and clean. I will certainly consider coming back. My only qualm, if any, was that there were neighbors sort of nearby that were loud in the early evening hours. I think they were having house guests so they were playing music, etc. It wouldn't prevent me from returning, though. I had a wonderful time on my weekend excursion!
Response from VrboOwner on 31 Mar, 2020
Thank you for your comments, we feel the same way about it. We have seen many kinds of wildlife there, but have not yet seen the coyote. As for the neighbor's music, we're sorry, that has happened only once before in the past year - had you called us, we could have called them, they are our tenants and most cooperative, perhaps they were unaware anyone was staying there, since they can't see the cabin from their home.

DON’T BOOK AT THE CABIN. BOOK THE TIPI.

Hey. Hi. I stayed at Chloe’s Cabin for a night and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. First off let me say this was partially my fault. I had originally booked the Tipi on the property because it seemed cool, but switched to the cabin because it listed having a bathroom. I made that choice. It was the wrong choice. The cabin is a filthy moldy abomination. There are ‘supplies’ inside that are all out of date by two to three years. The ‘blankets’ a bedding supplies all smell musty and like mold. The ladder up to the sleeping area is awkward to use. There is no COMFORT about the cabin. Also the bathroom that made or broke my decision doesn’t actually exist. That’s right. The listed bathroom is not actually existent. Instead there is a bucket with rusted hand rails located 100 yards behind the cabin filled with rotting feces. Yes. A bucket full of ancient refuse. That is not a bathroom. I was willing to give them a pass though kinda. I was. Like the price was cheaperish and over the phone the owner sounded like a country man. Maybe he thought the cabin was comfortable. Maybe he thought a bucket was a bathroom. And then on my way out I swung by the tipi. Y’all. Book the tipi. There is so much more effort artistry and care put into the tipi site. Let me go over some things the tipi site has over the cabin. -Running water -A shower -A fridge -A sink -A KITCHEN IN GENERAL -A SHOWER THE TIPI IS SO MUCH BETTER IT MADE THE CABIN WORSE. DO NOT BOOK THE CABIN.

I LOVED staying at the cabin and want to come back. My only thing is, I wish people who stay there would read and respect the rules. Especially the “Honor system”. There is no bathroom in the cabin; it is written in the description: don’t leave toilet paper in the woods, and also take your garbage with you. I took half of a bag of garbage that was not mine. Please respect it; it is a beautiful place for wildlife lovers and for people looking for peace

Very Rustic

A bit overpriced for what was available. Very rustic, no bathroom, dirty sheets.. it needs to be cleaned more often. Lake was filthy.. An AC would be nice in 95 degrees.. this would be a great place for a hunter...

Overpriced cabin, but nature was nice

The cabin is much overpriced. A decent price should be about $65-$80 a night. It is smelly and needs a new a new sleeping mattress as well as a new mattress for the downstairs seating. I could not even sit on it for the smell. There was also a lack of large mugs and bowls for cooking. But the view and the nature with deer, beavers, herons, turkeys and a snake (cottonmouth at the edge of the lake) were wonderful and I enjoyed sitting at the fire pit in the evenings. There is a 10 minute walk (or two minute paddle across in the canoe) to the tipi room with the toilet and the outdoor shower (which is surrounded by broken glass and is viewable from the road). Luckily there was no one in the tipi across the lake other than one night and when we were both sitting at the lake/pond in the evening we were looking right at each other which is a little strange. I did not find the lake/pond swimmable, the deck was falling apart and the ladder was not attached. There was also something in the lake that ate a big bird one evening, so I stayed on shore. So nature is a plus while the accommodations could use some updating and improvement.

The place was exactly what is was supposed to be. Quaint, quiet, and relaxing. Previous guests leave behind small food items and supplies, as we did as well. It was a rustic outing without being completly without. It wasnt an issue sharing with the tipi group either. Just a couple of recommendations... shower curtain for outdoor shower, pathway around shower to keep feet clean. Update of locations to go for hiking and water holes. We found a couple that were listed are no longer active. Other than that. No complaints and we are definitely going back. Wanted to actually rent both the cabin and tipi for Father's day weekend but wasnt available. Thank you for sharing this beautiful location.
