About this property
Mures Cloudy Bay Retreat
MURES CLOUDY BAY RETREAT is UNIQUE. Located in one of Bruny Island's most remote and spectacular destinations, this modern retreat is so close to the action that the floor to ceiling double glazed windows are dusted with salt straight from the wild Southern Ocean.
Not only is this sun drenched haven situated in the remotest of Bruny Island wilderness, the modern solar and wind powered, open plan style retreat, sits alone on 35 acres of private property behind the dunes with nothing but sensational views to interrupt your day. The expansive vista of the rugged surf beach, sheer cliffs, vast ocean horizons and seabirds in the southern sky are the only big screen entertainment required. The rear balcony offers a protected north facing shelter that backs onto unspoilt land featuring a sheltered gully and creek. The property is bordered by a Parks and Wildlife Protected Reserve, adding to its unique privacy. Your doorstep activities include spectacular walks through the sand dunes and along the beach, a reliable quality surf break and world class fishing or diving...or you can choose to simply sit back and exhaust yourself with the view.
The accommodation includes 1 large King bedroom and the 2nd bedroom has a double lower bunk, single upper bunk and a single bed. The bathroom has a spa bath and separate shower. A modern kitchen together with a woodfire in the lounge area makes it perfect for a family getaway or secluded escape for two. Mures Retreat is 30 minutes away from the nearest general store so please bring all your favourite food and beverages along to this cosy nest for the duration of your stay. Will and Jude Mure welcome you to share their special retreat.

Two things that be noted and not mentioned in the listing 15 mns drive on a dirt road and also no beach access
Apart from that we fully enjoyed our stay and the magnificent views
This is our 4th visit as we love the isolation/location. We are never disappointed. A minor point was that some of the cookware/plates needed recleaning before use, but this did not distract from our overall experience of 5 stars.
The photos don't do this place justice! It was far nicer and exceeded our expectations by miles. The location has a sense of grandeur and the house is lovely and simple, but large and filled with light and the sea. It's clean, well equipped and has stunning views and a sense of isolation. We felt very privileged to spend Christmas here.
The check-in process was flawless, thanks to Jon, the property manager who met us at the gate and guided us in and showed us how everything worked.
The downsides are: the access - 4.5KM on a bush track, which is pretty rough at the end. An SUV, preferably 4WD, but at least with plenty of clearance, is advised. There are no window coverings so it gets light early in summer. Although the house has stunning sea views, the beach is not easy to reach, which is a little frustrating. As it was Christmas holidays, there was a bit of traffic on the beach to and from the Cloudy Corner campground, which reduced the sense of isolation a little, but which was not intrusive. The listing should emphasis these points more strongly as visitors need to be prepared.
Overall, an unforgettable experience. We'd love to visit again.
This was our highlight to our trip . We loved the private open home with nature . There is nothing to fault as it was perfect
From the kitchen the bed& shower and the magnificent fireplace which my husband calls the bush television .
Our expectations were surpassed. The weather was miserable and we were cocooned in this beautiful, spacious home with a roaring fire and breathtakingly beautiful scenery. So remote and peaceful, like we were the only ones on the planet. Everything we needed to be very comfortable. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back.
The down side with this property is if you are old or over weight beach access is all most impossible a nd dangerous. The road to the property is hideous and if you have a new car expect possible scratches. If you have a 4x4 and like climbing up and down a hill to get to the beach I give this property 5 stars.

What a place.
If you are after peace & quiet, isolation, comfort and stunning views, then this place is for you. The retreat was outside our budget, but it was totally worth blowing it for 3 days that we had here. I would go back in an instant.

Best ever
We have stayed in quite a few properties through Stayz and this is the best ever. Most beautiful location, great house, lovely caretaker Jon. This is our second stay in this house and we will definately be back. Plenty to do on Bruny Island, or you can just laze around and enjoy an incomparable view.

Breathtakingly beautiful
We're thanking our lucky stars that we stumbled upon this beauty! Remote, quiet, peaceful and well appointed. The house is a treasure, the location is spectacular. Especially loved the reading material (authored by relatives of the owners) all about the island and it's produce. Enjoyed the complimentary wine, the crackling fire, the billions of stars, the sunrise. Made the 7km off road adventure to get to the house well worth it.

Unforgettable experience.
This property is remote so be prepared for a little adventure on the drive there. The lovely caretaker Jon went out of his way for us, meeting us in town so we wouldn't get lost. A big thank you to you Jon!
Once you are there you will feel like you are at the edge of the world. The wilderness is breathtaking and a really special place to visit. We didn't see anyone else while we there, except for a few fishing boats out on the water. It is a place to watch and experience Mother Nature at its best and the house has been designed beautifully to appreciate it all.
