"Saltwater" is a charming Pacific style airy beach house situated in a cool and leafy garden.
The house is located one street back from the famous "Gutter" and is only 50metres from the water.
The house sleeps 10 people comfortably - it has a master bedroom with an ensuite, a room with a double bed, a bunk room (2 bunks) and a kids' room (2 single beds).
There are two bathrooms plus an outdoor shower; a clean and modern kitchen; 3 televisions; DVD players; an outdoor BBQ; large decks; a washing machine; fridge and chest freezer; beach umbrellas, chairs and kids' toys; linen.
The house also has a large deck with day beds and comfortable chairs.
Everything you need for a relaxing family holiday at the beach.
Things to do
"Saltwater" is a short walk to the "Gutter". The kids can enjoy beachcombing in the sting ray holes and hunt for soldier crabs at low tide or swim in the shallows at high tide. And for the parents, it is the perfect place to watch the sun set and have a few 'sunsetters' while the kids play.
The ocean and surf side of Moreton Island is only a five minute drive from Kooringal. You can climb sand dunes, visit the Mirrapools or go snorkelling at the Tangalooma Wrecks.
If you are feeling more adventurous, you can head North for the day and visit the Champagne pools, the Blue Hole and the Lighthouse. Or even climb Mount Tempest.
You can fish from Reeders Point (only 5 minutes from the house) and the ocean beach or go squid fishing in the gutter (boats can be launched from near the house if you have a 'tinny').
National park - 4WD only
Moreton Island is a national park. There are no sealed roads - this means that there is 4WD access only. You will need a permit for your vehicle, which can be obtained from the barge operator. No pets are allowed.
"Saltwater" is off-grid. Electricity in the house is supplied by solar power. We have good solar batteries and a generator - although you need to be mindful of how much electricity you use. The water is rain water from a tank.
We have a friendly property manager who can help if you have any problems.

This is the most unique stay we have experienced. It was so full of character. The location is perfect with the gutter bar being a 5 min walk and the water only 50 metres away. Thank you for allowing a bucket list experience to happen.
Overall the stay was lovely and the house had plenty of space for two families. We did find it a little on the dirty side (not in terms of surface dust) but the plates, cutlery and glasses all had to be washed as they were quite dirty.
There were no bath mats provided which made the bathrooms very wet. There was dog hair in the master bed and stains on the sheets.
I’d recommend taking your own bed linen, on top of towels. All minor things though
I almost forgot how lovely Kooringal is.... If you are looking for a fabulous place that is authentic yet luxurious, this is clearly the place. We felt privileged to stay in this lovely house.
This property is very special,
We stayed with another couple and we just loved the location kooringal is a hidden gem! The house was very comfortable with nice spaces to enjoy the ambience. Highly recommend
Saltwater had so much atmosphere and the photos did not do it justice. We loved our stay, such a great location to relax, unwind, catch up with family and explore beautiful Moreton Island. If you like oysters I can recommend a visit to the local oyster farm to buy direct and it’s a short walk to the Gutter Bar, definitely a must do. Thank you to wonderful hosts for a great stay.
We absolutely loved this property. The owners are so accommodating, and the house is just what you want when staying on an island. It’s a giant treehouse. We will definitely be back

Karlee, I am happy that you and your family enjoyed our ‘tree house’. Our part of the island is a kids’ paradise. You are welcome back any time. Donna
A short weekend away for for Father’s Day and we had a great time. Saltwater had everything we needed and we loved the Bali waterfront Shack style vibe. Donna was very helpful and accommodating with local knowledge for our day trips exploring. Special thanks to Tamara for helping us out when we needed her.
If the only the walls could talk, there’s thousands of stories in that place.
Loads of character and inspiration.

Ryan, I am glad the walls can’t talk!! We have tried to make the house comfortable to live in whilst retaining its natural charm. You step into “island time” the moment you drive off the barge. Kooringal truly is a magical place. Thanks for your review and I am glad you enjoyed your stay despite the weather. DS
This property was very homely and had all the comforts of home. Donna was excellent to deal with. I can recommend this quaint accommodation and Kooringal for a getaway.
I took a bunch of Kiwis here by boat from Cleveland. Had lunch and dinner at the Gutter Bar, and spent the afternoon and evening on the deck at Saltwater. The boys from Auckland reckon it was up there with one of there best stays.
Thank you so much for having us stay in your amazing home. The pictures truly do not do this beautiful home justice. We had a truly amazing time. Thank you Donna

About the host

Our family loves the ocean and being near it. We have owned the house for over thirty years and it has changed and grown with our family. We spend as much time at Moreton Island as we can - not as much time as we would like with school age children and sporting commitments on week-ends. When school finishes, we are usually on the first barge over to the Island. Our kids are all Kooringal Kids, having grown up in the township, and they love the Island as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
Kooringal is a magic place. And our house is magic too! Everyone who stays there simply loves it. It isn't swanky but it has a soul - from the many happy times spent there.
