Beautiful cottage, adjacent to beach and Motu Trail. Private & Secluded!

Renga Renga Retreat is a fresh, airy and modern cottage, and provides a very relaxing place to stay. This tranquil cottage is surrounded by mature trees and bountiful bird-life, including many Tui and other natives. Situated within close proximity to the ocean, and the Motu Trail, and only a short 5-minute drive to Opotiki, Renga Renga Retreat is the perfect holiday destination.

The beautiful private grounds surrounding the cottage are available for guests to enjoy during their stay.

The dunes and beach are a short 5 minute stroll down the property’s lovely driveway, and along the public access walkway.

Renga Retreat is surrounded by mature Pohutukawa trees, Banksia and Olives, lavish lavender, a small orchard of fruit trees and grapevines, and attracts abundant bird-life. The cottage is named after the lines of Renga Renga lilies that border the driveway into the property which were cultivated by Maori for food in earlier days.

The Motu Trail is renowned for cycling and walking, and is just 100 meters away, and the famous sand dunes and expansive beach are just beyond the trail.

The cottage has been fully renovated and is fresh and clean, with modern facilities. It features one sunny bedroom with a Queen bed and ensuite bathroom. There is a Double bed located in the spacious Lounge as a lounger for couples or for a bed for extra guests, however PLEASE NOTE, extra guests need to share the ensuite bathroom.

The kitchen/dining and lounge area is light and bright and spacious and the kitchen provides a modern gas hob, electric oven, a convection microwave and a huge bench. There is a large deck with sun umbrella to relax with a wine or coffee, and soak up the ambiance of your surrounds. There is also a washing machine to catch up on your holiday washing.

We enjoyed our stay from the first minute. The cottage is so nice in a huge and beautiful garden. Only 5 min walk from the beach. It has a big terrace with a roof and a parasol. It’s well equipped, we loved the gas stove to cook on. Gary and Lydia were such kind hosts and helped us immediately with all we needed. Stella, the Labrador, is a lovely dog. We just felt „at home“ once.

Bright cottage set in beautiful gardens

Our family had a lovely warm welcome from Gary and family. The cottage was big, comfortable, and had everything we needed. We especially loved the big deck spaces and the tranquil gardens filled with fruit trees. The location is great - it’s on the motu cycle trails and over the dune is the beach. Wish we’d booked for longer!

Gary and Lydia operated a Guest House in Solomon Islands for 8 years and in 2018 returned to live in New Zealand. They love people and looking after guests enjoying a well-earned holiday or seeking pleasure in their chosen sport or hobby gives a special reward.

Why they chose this property

Although a little colder than Solomons, Gary and Lydia loved the house and the beautiful cottage, the expansive gardens and mature trees and the orchard . The cottage on the property was built and then recently renovated as a permanent home and so has modern, high-quality fittings along with a great "homely" feel. The proximity to the sea was also a big factor, with Lydia having lived on an island all her life. The wonderful friendliness and relaxed manner of the local people makes Opotiki a great place to live or visit.

What makes this property unique

The proximity to the Motu Trails is an obvious unique feature of Renga Renga Retreat.
It is an asset to the whole area and a draw-card for hikers and cyclists serous and casual alike.
The Bay of Plenty with its sandy beaches, rocky shores lined with Pohutukawa and the backdrop of pristine native forest makes it a special part of the world. These features provide a playground for those who love marine sports and activities or who get their adrenaline rush in the bush.
