"Absolutely exceptional, stylish, superbly located, quiet. Best Airbnb I’ve ever had the pleasure to visit" (review).
Secluded, tranquil, fully self-contained, modern & comfortable, Escape is an award winning, creative, studio-style couples retreat nestled in native bush. Enjoy the spa, cosy wood-fire, tree-surrounded raised deck (my favourite), fully appointed kitchen, a backdrop of the spectacular Grampians & walking distance to Halls Gap.
MORE DETAIL: Yes, 'Escape' is a secluded we have a double block nestled amid the trees giving it a very private feel. Please read our guest reviews - better to hear what they say than have us talk too much ourselves. But suffice to say, our reviews are a delight to us and out of respect for guests, we keep our prices competitive.
About the house: it is modern and quite luxurious, with many more personal creative touches. There is cast iron wood fireplace, a well stocked woodshed, a deluxe luxury spa bath for two, a split system aircon / heater, a raised balcony amid the trees which is one of my personal favourite elements of the house, views of the trees out of every window, a coffee / expresso / latte / cappuccino machine so you can have a decent coffee 'at home' without having to go out and buy one, a fully appointed kitchen with 4 burner electric stove, microwave, kettle BBQ, toastie maker, toaster, kettle, fridge and freezer and a full array of pots, pans, crockery, and cutlery and cooking utensils.
Native wild and bird life abounds - kangaroos, an occasional emu or wallaby, cockatoos, kookaburras, rosellas, all frequent the property and I have planted a number of trees amid the native gums (banksias, grevillias, blossoming gums) which, when they grow, will attract a host of the smaller native birds.
The property is secluded and the house is set in the middle of one of the few remaining double bush blocks in the area. Escape enjoys its own driveway and parking area and very much does feel like an 'Escape'.

Had a great stay. Love Halls Gap winters with cold misty weather and Heavenly Escape was the perfect place to stay warm and relax with the fireplace and spa. Hope to return

Set in the middle of Halls Gap this place was amazing to stay at. Wildlife at your doorstep and such a comfortable quiet clean place with some amazing local photography from the host. Will definitely stay there again. Plenty of information on hand for day trips and places of interest. Everything you will need is supplied just bring food and snacks.
This was our 2nd time staying here, and both times have been amazing stays. Very relaxing getaway, didn't want to leave. Will be returning again soon. Would highly recommend this place to an
Heavenly Escape comes as advertised! Lodgings are spacious, clean, delightfully decored, wonderfully positioned and the hot tub is the perfect size for 2!
Timothy was great to deal with, the information was clear and comprehensive. We'd definitely stay her again when in the Grampians!
Our stay here was so amazing little piece of heaven, though the photos made it look a little more isolated than what it is, it doesn’t impact the privacy! Couldn’t really hear anyone else besides them arriving. Was such a great escape would definitely recommend.
Wonderful open plan with windows looking onto a woodland property. Great location for accessing the Grampians hiking trails. Comfortable and spacious. Nice front deck for kangaroos to hop past! The house was friendly and and communicative. If I have the opportunity to return to Halls Gap I would definitely book it again.

When we first entered the property there was a very bad odor, the kitchen was greasy and the bathroom had existing hair on the tiles.

This cabin in the woods is perfect. Very special experience. Spacious. Beautifully decorated. Homely. Quiet. Surrouned by nature, kangaroos, birds. Kookaburra's chat each morning in trees nearby. Easy fireplace. Plus split system heater, cooler. Big clean windows with lovely views of nature, the moutain you feel you can almost touch. Spacious bathroom. Clean. A personal touch of a bottle of Shiraz 2 glasses on the table on arrival. We could feel the love of our host Tim through the attention to detail. We LOVED it all so much, we are going back for NYE in a month's time. Cafes fantastic, great coffee, yummy food, such friendly community. You MUST experience the serenity and beauty for yourselves. So relaxing. Balcony deck with chairs lounge chair so you're emerged in nature. Its SO special. Thank you Tim, you are the perfect host. Excellent email communication and tour guide extras. This is truly magical. Please enjoy it as much as we did. We have stunning memories we will always treasure. Much love gratitude to you Tim and our special holiday immersion in nature. xx
Fantastic Getaway. So Peaceful. Look forward to returning again in the near future.
Very Neat and Tidy. We loved the art work on the walls, and of coarse, the wildlife were a pleasant attraction. The woodfire was so nice to cuddle up to at night when it was cold. And to top it off the Spa was an extra bonus. Would love to come back again. 10/10. Thankyou so much Tim, We both needed this getaway.
A beautiful spot away from the hustle and bustle of Halls Gap while still within a walkable distance — it’s a bit of a walk— to restaurants, shops, trails etc. Equipped as described. Feels like you are up in a tree house; just glorious to enjoy a cuppa on the verandah on a sunny morning watching wildlife and taking in the views.

Thank you for the review Elena - I am going to note this bit as one of my all time favourite review extracts: 'feels like you are up in a tree house' ... I really like that thought. House aside, I really love the deck and when flowering gum steadily growing away to the right gets up and beyond deck height, I think it will be really cool. Thank you for staying, Tim
Such a welcome break from the city. Mountain views through the trees, wallabies and birds surrounding, no intruding noise, and art to enjoy indoors. Super!
Nothing short of comfort. It had everything and the feeling of isolation so therapeutic. Surrounded by nature, it felt so hidden away!

Dear Anna - I have just noted your review on Homeaway - thank you very much nd it was a pleasure having you stay with us in the Grampians at Escape, Warm regards and have a Happy Christmas, Tim
Heavenly Escape is a great property to get away from it all. Tim was very easy and fantastic to deal with. The property itself is fairly open plan with everything you need. It has a great back deck to sip a glass of wine and watch the birds fly by. It's also cosy on the inside for when the weather got cooler - the fireplace worked a treat. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will definitely try and come back again.
Fantastic property, exactly like the photo's. Couldn't have been more comfortable. The location was terrific, with a nice walk into town when we preferred. Had everything we needed. Will definitely be making this an annual getaway.

Dear Greg - thank you for being such an easy and respectful guest and thank you also for the lovely review. Whilst my background is media production, I take a lot of pleasure in working on and making improvement at Heavenly Escape and consequently very much appreciate it when guests enjoy their time at the house. Had just finished repainting the inside of the house the week before you arrived. Good on you, thank you again, and you are most certainly welcome back, warm regards, Tim

Relaxing and Peaceful
Heavenly Escape is exactly as it is shown in the pictures. Surrounded by bushland and native plants cared for by the owner. It was 1c overnight and frosty but the log fire and heating worked very well. It was a luxury having a hot spa and good quality shower and dishwasher. The other properties are close by but not a problem. We have stayed in 3 other places before at Halls Gap which were good but this one is the best. I rate it very highly especially as you need comfort and a reward after long days walking and climbing . We had a lovely weekend.

Dear Jane - thank you for your review - I really appreciate you going back online to say a few words. Regarding A Heavenly Escape, it is an ongoing process - I have owned it for approaching 18 months and my list of to-dos seems very much a case of tick one off and add another two. It is a pleasure of a house to tinker with / work and something I take quite some pride in making lovely. I look forward to spring and seeing how all the new trees / bushes grow. Be truly lovely once there are some grevillias / banksias / the blossoming gums growing up and flowering! The bird life should go through the roof. Warm regards and thanks again for booking with us Timothy

Relaxing bush setting
Heavenly Escape provided a welcoming & warm base for our stay in Halls Gap. There were lovely little luxuries provided including wine, chocolates & basic breakfast supplies as well as fresh garden flowers. After a day of wandering through the Grampians it was hard to choose between settling in front of the wood fire or soaking in the spa...so we got take away & did both. Waking up in the morning to the sound of kookaburra laughter & watching deer grazing outside our window as we had breakfast topped off a perfect stay.

Good on you Hayley - if I were to pass on compliments not only to yourself, but to many many of our guests - thank you for both appreciating and respecting A Heavenly Retreat. I am up there most weeks between guests making improvements, new native plants in the garden, new pictures on the walls, new knick-knacks etc etc ... and this is not so much because for commercial reasons but simply because it is my place, I love it, and I want guests to enjoy their time away as much as possible. Peace and respect, TIm
About the host
Hosted by Timothy Syrota
Yes, the photo is me, your host - a pretty smiley happy guy who spent more than a decade working as a freelance documentary director, photojournalist and author based in South East Asia (photographed here with a 100 year old Muslim gentleman amid the religious unrest in Myanmar). But with two little daughters that we wanted to educate in Australia and have closer to their broader families, we returned to OZ at the beginning of 2016. As a kid, I myself spent lengthy periods traveling the world with my intrepid backpacking 1970s generation, Cat Stevens inspired 'single Mum. Northern Soulawesi in '78, age 10, just the two of us ... kind of way out there! And whilst it was largely reluctant at the time, it obviously had a huge impact on my adult life. Simply - I still adore travel and the adventure, interest and excitement it brings. And my media work - pretty much all based on humanitarian / refugee / environmental advocacy and education. Winner of 3 international photojournalism awards, author of 1 book, director of lots of films. And still smiling more than not ...
Why they chose this property
I bought A Heavenly Escape to manage and look after in recognition of the fact that freelance media is a fickle income source at the best of times and leaving ones established network is big risk. I want to be able to continue the work that I do and say yes to work that interests me irrespective of the budget of the people with whom I work ... yes because of the job, not the money. And in order to do this from an Australian base, well, simply something had to provide some sort of income. I researched the property markets in Halls Gap for about 6 years and when we learnt Heavenly Escape was for sale, well, it is rare that such properties come on the market. QUITE SIMPLY - after years of being based overseas and taking R & R in small boutique guest houses / cabins (and loving them), Heavenly Escape was quite simply the house that my wife and I would have wanted to stay in ourselves. By a long shot. It's already lovely and my goal is step-by-step to make it absolutely gorgeous - artistic, unique, creative, tranquil but never feeling 'untouchable' ... even more the sort of place I love to stay in myself. And the long term goal - well, the dream is to have two such houses so that I can work for free for the community groups and small organizations out there with no budget for top shelf media but are doing some wonderful work in advocacy and education on the matters that I feel are the most important, to all of us.
What makes this property unique
(1) abundant wildlife all around the house (2) wonderful balcony (3) the double bush block (4) spa & cast iron fireplace (5) complimentary bottle of wine (6) proper coffee machine (very important to some - like me!) (7) the sense of privacy (8) the unique design of the house
