Casa de la Cruz is a small, charming colonial-style home with a courtyard garden, tiled-roof terraza, plunge pool and modern amenities. It is most comfortable for two adults, and ideal for those seeking a genuine, local experience.
The casita features traditional high ceilings, vibrant hacienda colors, antique wooden doors, Mexican pasta tile floors, and wrought-iron rejas adorning large windows looking to a central courtyard, which gives the house a bright, open and airy feeling.
It offers a living room, dining room, modern kitchen, full modern bath, private outdoor shower, laundry, and a separate main bedroom across an interior courtyard. The main bedroom provides a bright, traditional Mexican design with a custom-made queen size bed, plenty of closet space, and air conditioning. Up to two additional guests can be accommodated in the sala (living room) utilizing the custom-made day beds, which were designed to transform into a second queen-size bed.
ROOM BY ROOM TOUR : Entering from the sunny front courtyard, antique wooden front doors open to a cozy living room/sala. With high ceilings and a large window overlooking the courtyard, the room is naturally airy and full of light. There are two comfortable custom-made day beds, which can combine into a second queen-size bed when easily moved together.
The light and airy feel continues in the dining room, with a large window looking to the pool. In the center is a rustic dining table that seats four comfortably. Traditional 'hamaca' (hammock) hooks dot the east and west walls of the dining room. Experience the traditional Yucatecan hammocks provided for guest use (VERY comfortable!).
The updated kitchen offers polished concrete counters, pasta tile floors and backsplash, modern appliances including new refrigerator, new gas stove and oven, toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, cooking utensils, and table service for four.
The bath is modern with polished concrete, pasta tile mosaic walls, walk-in shower, new hot water heater, and sky lights. It's outfitted with ample towels for both bath and pool. Just beyond, is a small interior courtyard with a private outdoor shower, and a separate "bodega" room with laundry for guest use.
Across the courtyard is the separate air-conditioned bedroom. The quiet, comfortable room looks out to the pool and courtyard. Designed in an authentic Mexican style, it offers a custom-made queen-size bed, a ceiling fan above, an office desk area, and generous closet/shelf space.
A stone privacy wall secludes the outdoor living areas - a sunny front courtyard, garden, a central courtyard with a tiled-roof terraza (more hamaca hooks) and a 10' x 15' (approx. 3.25 m x 5 m) plunge pool, perfect for relaxing after a day in the Mayan sun.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES & ARRIVAL : Casa de la Cruz is comfortably appointed and includes hi-speed wifi, cable TV, a Telcel Amigo pre-pay phone for guest stays, and bottled water delivered for drinking and cooking. There is a safe available for guest use during their stay, large enough for laptops. Daily or periodic housekeeping service during longer stays can be arranged for about $25 per visit. Otherwise, we provide weekly service during longer stays.
Public transportation stops across the street from the front of house. The bus ride to Parque Central/downtown is 7 pesos. It's the true way to have a local, Merida experience.
Casa de la Cruz is located 15 minutes from Mérida's airport. Exiting the main terminal, a “Taxi Sítio” offers fixed fares to Centro and Casa de la Cruz. The cost for up to 3 persons is about $300 pesos ($15 USD). The ADO bus station is approximately 10 minutes by taxi (approx 75 pesos/$3-4 USD). For rental cars, street parking is generally easily available in front of the house (opposite side of street).

This casita gets better each time we visit. The renos on the kitchen and bathroom added to our comfort. It's bright and airy, and then there's the plunge pool - a real delight. The owners and manager are a dream to deal with. It's a bit of a hike to El Centro, but exercise is good when you''re walking to a restaurant. And Santiago Plaza is not too far away. Loved our week-long stay.

Marg and Will - we're always really glad to see you come back to Casa Cruz, and definitely appreciate the feedback on the most recent renovations. We also love your adventurous Yucatecan spirit! We can see how Casa Cruz fits you well. Thanks very much for being our guests, and we look to hearing from you again. All the best on your next adventures.
Pete
We loved our stay at Casa de la Cruz! We were welcomed with wine, fruit and flowers. The local agent Silvia offered us an extensive list of her favorite places for coffee, food and entertainment. She was always available for questions and even booked our early morning taxi to the airport.
Pete is a great communicator both before and during our stay. I loved learning a bit about the history of the house and neighborhood.
The casita was delightful. A perfect balance of old and new. We loved the feeling being in our own 100 year old or so enclave. The outdoor space and pool were a wonderful addition.
There are so many thoughtful additions we haven't seen it other rentals. Bikes, yoga mats, first aid kit, even bug spray (which we never had to use by the way).
There are so many things that we didn't do in our 8 days in Merida. We will definitely stay here again.

The way I would like a Mexican home
I cannot say enough good about our stay at Casa Cuz. Greeted by Sylvia, the caretaker, fresh cut flowers, bottle of wine, Mexican coffee, and bananas. The house is much bigger than I thought it would be, with lots of personal touches. Been traveling to Latin America for 20 Years and by far one of the nicest places I have stayed at. We came for Mayan pyramids and the culture of the city of Merida and found ourselves in the afternoon wishing to get back to Casa Cruz to relax in the plunge pool before going out for the evening. If you are planning a trip to Merida, do not hesitate to rent this house. It is wonderful. You will not be sorry. Recommendations. Use Uber to get around town. Cheap, and a good expierence for us.. Uxmal pyramid, Fantastic! Food, Chaya Maya, Kuuk. This is one place the pictures do not do it justice. 5 stars

We've tried to maintain a balance between its authentic origins and modern conveniences, and it's great to know that you appreciated the outcome. We never want to leave either. Perfect place to stay in Merida
My husband and I stayed in this colorful and private casa for three weeks and loved it. It is located in a quiet neighborhood, about 15 minutes walk from the central plaza. I cannot overemphasize the high quality of the customer service we received from the owners and their on-site property manager who speaks excellent English. She was always available to take care of us and make sure our stay was perfect. As we stayed longer than one week, we were provided with a Mexican cell phone in order to call her if we had questions or needed anything.
The bed was comfortable and unlike other places we stayed in Mexico, the pillows were good! The patio and plunge pool were a wonderful feature of the Casa de la Cruz and we spent many hours in the hammock outside or sitting in the very comfortable patio furniture. Full kitchen with easy to operate appliances. Also the security of the Casa is excellent. It is clean and well-maintained.
If anything, the photos don't do the place justice! It is really roomy and the colors and decoration are just wonderful. Though it sleeps 4, it is probably best for 2 people. Two comfortable day beds in the living room would make it OK for 4.
Merida is an exceptionally safe and tranquil city, and we walked most places at various times of the day and evening with no nervousness. Taxi's are cheap and plentiful. There is something going on almost every night of the week, dancing to live music, performances of dancing, free musical performances in the theatre, and stalls on the square selling lovely crafts and tasty food. A bus stops across from the Casa and will take you to the Main Square for 50 cents.
I highly recommend a visit to the friendly city of Merida and a stay at the Casa de la Cruz.

We sincerely appreciate your feedback and are genuinely happy that you found your experience at Casa de la Cruz met your expectations. Sounds like you took full advantage of life in Merida and the Yucatan also. We know there were a couple of glitches the first few days with the internet connection for one of your devices, and a random battery replacement message from the stereo speaker, but we appreciate you giving us the chance to address it right away. We also passed on your comments to our Merida property manager who was very appreciative. Thanks again for being incredibly excellent guests. We look for you to do a return visit.
This property is fantastic. The manager Silvia is a true gem and the owner(s) were spot on with any problems she relayed to them. The microwave gave up the ghost and in the same day we let Silvia know she brought a new one to us. The housecleaner, Alorena was such a bright spot in our day - even with our lack of each others languages we managed to have fun communicating. Mario, the pool guy, was very good too. We will definitely recommend this property to anyone going to Merida and our Mexican friends have seen it so they can as well.
This property was exactly as described. Beautiful yet very comfortable. I can't imagine anyone thinking this property was lacking in any way. The location was perfect for us to get to all the fun events throughout Merida. we walked everywhere! Lots of great parks , Museums, Restaurants , Markets and Grocery Stores nearby even a Zoo! Our arriving flight has some delays so obviously we were delayed getting to the house. The Property Manager was waiting for us... more with concern for us than you've kept me waiting. She even called us to make sure we were ok. Silvia is a very good Property Manager who obviously loves her work and wants you to have the most enjoyable stay with lots of recommendations for your holiday. She showed up at numerous times throughout our visit with maintenance staff; the lovely cleaning lady, the pool crew and the landscapers. Silvia always let us know ahead of time the days and times they would be there. We never felt we had to stick around for these visits. This property was very private and the pool was amazingly refreshing and we loved sitting under the covered patio during the hot times of the day to read a book and jump in the pool to cool down. We had guests while we were these for a couple of nights and they said the couches/ combo-bed were extremely comfortable and the fan helped cool the room down nicely. I loved cooking supper in the kitchen, I didn't feel it was lacking in anything and the dining room was just lovely. We had brought a portable Speaker system with us and used that for music but the TV had music options also. We used Uber if we wanted to go to Costco or Sam's Club very reasonable pricewise. Took the bus a few times to Progresso, great to visit the beach but nice to get back to our own private place! I messaged Peter once I had some questions about Markets, he replied immediately. When we were leaving, it was at the Covid-19 time and Peter messaged that if we needed some extra days we could be accommodated easily. Silvia insisted on bringing us to the Airport on the day of our departure and shared with us masks, gloves and hand sanitizers. If you're ever thinking about travelling to Merida, I highly recommend this property not only for everything it offers but also for the support you receive from the Owners and the Property Manager. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your Home for a Whole Month. Sincerely Suzanne and Maurizio Ottaviano Canada

Great Home in a Great Location
The Casa de la Crux is a beautiful oasis in a wonderful city. It has all the amenities required for a comfortable stay, but still retains the charm of the past. (The pictures posted do not mislead - this is a beautiful home.)
By some miracle of design, the front room and dining area remain quite cool, even though there is no air-conditioning. Our many siestas in the peak heat of the day taken in the front room attest to that!
The natural lighting, especially in the bathroom and kitchen, were a stroke of genius.
The separate bedroom was very comfortable, and the fan and air-conditioning worked wonderfully.
Perhaps best of all was the perfectly (and totally) private outdoor garden where you could sit in comfort and dine casually, and escape the heat by using the plunge pool. The pool was well-used and a very enjoyable and easy way to bring down the body temperature. Again, I am not certain how or why, but the pool remained cool and refreshing, even chilly, during our one-week stay despite the heat of the day.
The hosts were more than kind and generous in their help and their suggestions.
All in all, it was a memorable stay, and one that we would recommend highly, as well as one that we hope to repeat again. (We have stayed in homes in a number of countries in the area and in other continents, and this house is among the best we have stayed at. Our comments, therefore, are considered and based on our experience elsewhere.)
Two final general notes:
- Merida is a lovely and vibrant city with many attractions so a week or two week stay is warranted. There are also many locations/attractions nearby that warrant a visit.
- Despite what you may have read elsewhere, driving (we had a car, but you do not need one) was quite easy once you learned that all odd-numbered streets run at right angle to even-numbered streets in a grid-fashion and that, in either case, they (mostly) consecutively are one-way in one direction or the other.

Good place to stay for a couple
Stayed at the Casita for a week in February. House is just as described and very comfortable. Had a few problems with the electric and washing machine but Sylvia the agent was very prompt in responding to issues and communicating. Only slight negative was that it is on the junction between 2 roads which had lorries and buses going past so can be quite noisy at times from the early morning. Otherwise would recommend whole heartedly.

Great Experience
We came to Merida to relax and at the same time get a little work done without distractions. Casa de la Cruz proved to be a very good choice for us. It is airy, comfortable, and has all the charm one would expect in the heart of the Yucatan. Pete DuBois, the owner was very accommodating, and property manager Sylvia Sanchez, was especially responsive to our needs, and offered tips and advice on traveling the city. While we happened to be there during a very hot period, and didn't get out much during the day, Merida itself has many things to see, and the food was astonishingly good at every restaurant we visited. I can highly recommend the casita to anyone visiting the area.

Beautiful House!
Beautifully redone house just outside of Centro. Much larger than the photos suggest. Probably not for the timid traveler but we had a blast! We had cool weather for Merida so didn't use the plunge pool much but it would be a great resource when the temps hit 90. The bikes were great to have, especially on Sunday when the main streets downtown close to car traffic.

Great Casa
My husband and I just spent eight days in Merida at Casa de la Cruz. What a perfect place to stay! We walked every place we went. The first couple of days it was just to Parque Santiago, then we started spending time in Plaza de la Independencia. It was so refreshing to go back to the casa and cool off in the pool. Pete (owner) and Sylvia (property manager) have thought of everything. It is very thoughtful of them to supply coffee, large bottles of water, a few basic staples such as olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper and a few other herbs and spices - not really items you want to have to go purchase for a short stay. Both Sylvia and Pete were very quick to reply to any questions or concerns we had. As others have mentioned, the bed and pillows were comfortable. Hammocks available in practically every room, towels for the pool, laundry detergent, clothesline and pegs, every need anticipated. It was also very refreshing not to be constantly bombarded by someone trying to sell something. People would stop to talk to us, suggesting a Mayan co-operative for hats, hammocks and clothing, a cantina (La Negrita) that had 1 litre jars of sangria or beer for $50 pesos, all you could eat snacks, live music and a decent menu when snacks weren't enough. We would definitely recommend the Casa, the only caveat being check maximum temperature and humidity, both can be overwhelming if you are not used to it.

JUST PERFECT
Well, after two weeks here, we are just about finishing up our packing. I thought I would take several minutes and write about our perfect experience. After reading all the wonderful and totally accurate reviews of Casa Cruz (save for the one where I can only say that the renter had other issues) I decided to approach this review from a little different angle. First and foremost there is the manager, who without we would have been lost. Thank you for being so kind and patient with two gringos. Second, thank you to the owners, for having a home so well equipped that we needed for nothing. Although, we did buy more hangers....we are in Mexico for 3 months....so I have a lot of clothes. We have left the hangers for subsequent visitors. The house's charm and beauty definately added to the overall experience. Daily we chose a different direction to travel. From Progreso to Celestun to the PUUC Trail, to all the Parque's around the city....life was good! Thirdly, we were grateful for the friendly and helpful residents and professionals of the city. Even when stopped by the police for executing an illegal left turn.....the police were kind and helpful in getting us to where we wanted to go. No, we did not get a ticket....which my husband deserved! Fourthly, in 48 years of marriage I never have hung clothes on a line to dry. So now I know an old dog can learn new tricks.😉. Lastly, take this opportunity to not only experience , taste and enjoy this remarkable city, but venture out.....you too may still look like a gringo.....but in your heart you are anything but....😃

Beautiful Indoor-Outdoor Living at Casa de la Cruz!
The end of November was a beautiful time of year to stay in Merida, and staying at Casa de la Cruz made our family trip amazing! We arrived early in the morning and were greeted by Sylvia who kindly acclimated us to the house. We quickly learned that we would have plenty of room to spread out, an updated kitchen to cook in, and a beautiful outdoor patio area with a pool and hammocks to relax in. We loved the indoor-outdoor living feel at Casa de la Cruz, which made this casita very unique for us and is one of the things we liked best about our stay there! Even though cooler weather in Merida meant cooler water in the pool, we still enjoyed it at midday when the sun was directly out to warm us. We also loved the traditional art, pottery and other furnishings in the home, and it was in a perfect location for navigating the city by foot. We could leave the casita and in 5-20 minutes we could be at one of the city's parks where we found beautiful churches to explore, markets to buy fresh produce and benches to sit and take in the sights and sounds of the people living there. Around 8:00pm we found traditional music and dancing in one park which we enjoyed watching one night, as well as a Mayan ball game called Pok ta Pok, which we LOVED another night! Our stay in Merida was filled with taking in beautiful sights and meeting gracious people. It was absolutely lovely and we would highly recommend it!

Beautiful, just beautiful!
We had a wonderful stay here. We were welcomed by Sylvia, who made sure that we were settled in. She was informative and personable and happy that we should call her with any further queries.
The casita was clean and well maintained. The rooms were spacious, tastefully furnished and with fresh flowers on the table and milk and juice in the fridge.
It was fantastic having the pool to cool off in on our return from days out.
We'd definitely recommend this charming casita....we thought, more than once while there, how lovely it would be to share it with others.
Thank you for making our stay comfortable!

Great Merida stay!
We loved this casita with its casual charm and comfort. It is close to Santiago Park and just a twenty minute walk from Plaza Grande. There is a corner store a short walk away and a major grocery store at Santiago Park. Most of the major sites in Centro are within walking distance. A dip in the pool at the end of a hot day was the refreshing break that we needed and it made lounging on the patio very enjoyable. Although we spent most of our spare time on the patio, the living area of the house is large and tastefully decorated, particularly the living and dining rooms. The kitchen was fully equipped for all the cooking we needed to do. We really enjoyed the rain showerhead in the bathroom with excellent water pressure and plenty of hot water. Sylvia, the Property Manager, answered all our questions and was very attentive and helpful. We would highly recommend this property as a great place to stay in Merida.

Merida, gateway to a Mayan experience
Casa de la Cruz is an amazing home away from home sanctuary. The pleasant tropical environment is very appealing, especially the feeling of being in a country other than Mexico. Because of its Caribbean influence Merida is in world of its own, traditions, foods, local idioms, colors, and most of all the people. We took many side trips to archeological sites, churches, plazas, and each one unique but also very similar because of their collective culture.
Of the many years that I have lived in Mexico, nearly 8, this was my first trip to the Yucatan Peninsula. The comfortable house with its dunking pool was an excellent way to end every evening in the quietness of our surroundings after returning from one of about 7 plazas that put on a show every night. While we were not centrally located in reference to the Zocalo, a bus ride to all that was happening in the main squares was no more than 10 minutes away.
It was a relief to have the comforts of home quite different than intruding hotel personnel and staff. While walking a mere block to the local abarrote, mini supermarket, I met neighbors that were from the States and even from Havana, Cuba. I find it satisfying that when asking the local people about how to obtain food or services you get a quick and correct response; although the owners of the house and their property manager have provided an ample supply of information to make the stay as easy and relaxing as possible.

We were very glad to hear that you had such an incredible first time experience in Merida, the Yucatan, and at Casa de la Cruz. Thank you for appreciating the house and the traditional neighborhood experience that Santiago offers. As you noted, we always find the location great for easy access to all of historic/tourist sites in Merida downtown, as well as quick day-trips; but a nice sanctuary to return home a little beyond the main square buzz. We hope that you'll come back again and sincerely appreciate the awesome photos that you sent us. Saludos!

Terrific!
I recently enjoyed a 5-day reprieve in this wonderful home. In all of my time in Mérida, I'd never stayed en el centro. I'm very glad I chose this terrific little house in the Santiago neighborhood. The owners have renovated the home beautifully in a romantic, rustic style and equipped it with all of the major amenities of modern life.
The small courtyard inside the front gate is lovely. The first room inside the L-shaped house is a cozy LR w/flat screen TV & cable. I loved being outside, so didn't spend much time in this room. The LR flows into a spacious dining room with a beautiful wood & tile table. The DR leads to a darling kitchen.
A left turn through the kitchen takes you down a short hallway and through an interior garden to the bedroom. The bed has a good, comfortable mattress. There is ample closet space for guests, AC and a small writing desk.
The terrace is divine. There is a nice table for 4 on the covered terrace, an open patio for lounging in the sun, and a small pool for cooling off. The plantings and outdoor lighting make it a dreamy spot for resting in the evening, too.
I adore the Santiago neighborhood where the casita is located. It's close enough to walk to the touristy areas of the centro, but thankfully (for me) separate from them. In Mérida, buses are widely available and taxis are inexpensive, so if you don't feel like walking, there are other options. I was personally glad to stay in a really (really) old residential neighborhood, and shop for basics at the little mom & pop stores close by.
The reservation and payment process was super easy and quick, thanks to the owners. Their property manager, Sylvia, is really nice, too. She greeted me at the house and explained everything I would need to know. She's also available by phone or email. She had basic supplies at the house for me, such as milk, juice, coffee and fruit. The fresh flowers and bottle of wine were icing on the cake--I felt so welcomed to be there!
This trip was a work/vacation mix for me. It was hard to work while I was there, but I managed to get a few things done. The rest of the time, I completely relaxed and enjoyed myself. This little house is a gem and the owners and manager are great!

That's why we made sure the WiFI works outdoors by the pool! We hope that you'll come back again soon. Saludos!

Casa de la Cruz, Merida, Mexico
My family and I had a wonderful stay in Casa de la Cruz in Merida, Mexico. The house was clean, spacious and full of plenty of amenities to make our stay comfortable, yet cozy. We were able to get a glimpse into life in Mexican city staying in the house. We enjoyed lounging in the hammock, dipping in the pool and all the cultural life just a few blocks outside our front door.
The house had everything we needed, with lots of information on things to do locally while in the area. Everything was in great working order. The owner of the house was excellent at answering our questions and helping us plan our stay. The local agent was also excellent and made us feel very welcome while in Merida.
The house had lots of things we have grown used to like WiFi and tv. There was drinking water available and a wonderful clean kitchen. All things to make for a great stay.
If you want to try something different and skip the resort- stay at Casa de la Cruz and experience life in the culturally rich city of Merida.

We're really glad that your stay at Casa Cruz contributed to your overall Merida experience, and that you felt well accommodated by the efforts of our property manager, Silvia. Thanks very much for the warm comments about the home. We've tried to weave a blend of modern amenities and traditional elements, while overall keeping the home modest. We always appreciate guests who enjoy the simplicity and authenticity of the house, and the experience of the local neighborhood. We hope you'll be back soon. Saludos!

Heartbeat from historic district
We loved staying at the Casa Cruz on our recent trip Aug 9-15 2012. The hot days gave into cooling thuderstorms on a few evenings. However, on the hot nights/mornings we cooled off in the dipping pool inside the Casita's compound! A fully furnished, modernly appointed, artfully decorated, clean, quiet house, staying at the Casita was like a home away from home. Its proximity to the historic district is a bonus. The owners have a full binder on what to do and where to get stuff etc.
Take in the heart of the Yucatan with its history, culture, arts, gastronomy, enviromental awareness (do the downtown bike ride on Sunday morning!) by staying at the Casa Cruz in Merida.

We sincerely value and appreciate the feedback. Thanks for being the ideal guests at Casa Cruz, who came to the Yucatan with a sense of discovery, and an appreciation for the more authentic, local experience. We’re glad you found the location to be a good home base to explore Merida and your many day trips, as well as a comfortable respite at the end of the day. We look forward to having you return.

Rent at own risk
(2-month stay) Very loud weekday morning rush hour on street, from around 6:30am; broken counter tops, cushions, mosquito screens upon arrival; all low-end furnishings and accessories; no counter space in bathroom; toaster oven only; gas range lights with match; front door lock barrel fell out of hole first week...handyman simply reinserted it; had to pay myself to remove someone else's garbage left rotting in 35o heat directly in front of front door, after spending one week trying to get it removed by property manager; owner send me a long list of ``broken`` items that I know nothing about but had supposedly broken. Wouldn't return my utility deposit. Filed claim for those items on my insurance coverage. Claim was rejected. Still won’t return my utility deposit. Stay away.

Unfortunately, our home was left with $1100 in damages to furniture and other contents beyond normal wear and tear attributable to the guest writing the review. During the stay we never received a complaint from the guest, and in fact received a complementary email about the home and our property manager from the same individual during the stay. Only after seeking reimbursement from the guest for documented damages was such a negative review posted. We stand by our newly renovated and outfitted home, and find the commentary to be a totally misleading representation of the property, the experience of our other guests, and the integrity and care with which we manage both.

Casa Cruz
My husband and I loved the house, the amenities, convenient location, and the attention to details such as wine on arrival and an owner and house manager who was informative, nice and very helpful. The house has wonderful touches and is beautifully decorated with all one needs in a kitchen to cook if desired. We really liked the open feel of the house and recommend it highly for anyone wanting a quiet escape from the wonderfully busy Merida streets.

Our 8 night stay at Casa de la Cruz was enjoyable for my husband and I. We liked being in a local neigbourhood and usually walked into town in about 20 minutes. We found the casita charming and though simple, had what we needed in order to cook a meal etc. We appreciated the paysan decor and felt quite at home there. Yes, there were street noises, but the use of fans and or air conditioning kept this noise at a tolerable level - after all we were in a city in Mexico. We knew ahead of time that this was part of the experience of being there. Pete and the property manager were helpful with their information - and all in all I would recommend this property to anyone spending some time in Merida.

As one of our initial guests, we appreciated your staying with us during our opening year, and we're glad to know that you enjoyed the traditional neighborhood and the charm of the home's simplicity and decor. We also very much value your recommendation. Thank you. If you visit again, we think you'll find we've added a few more amenities to the home (including the custom-made dining room table that finally arrived :)).
About the host
Hosted by Chacon & DuBois
We are long-time partners with our primary home in the San Francisco Bay Area, California - when we aren't enjoying adventures in the Yucatan. We work in management consulting, graphic design and communications when we have to - but we'd secretly prefer just moving to Merida.
Why they chose this property
Our first experience with Merida and the Yucatan was 35 years ago when one of us was an exchange student in Mexico, with a dream to stay there. That plan was interrupted by college and a career until 2008, when we went together on an exploratory trip and decided it was something that we wanted to do. We chose Merida because it offers all of the modern urban amenities intermixed with rich culture, history, and architecture. But more than anything, the people of Merida are incredibly warm and friendly, and we find the lifestyle to be simple, peaceful, and relaxing.
What makes this property unique
Casa de la Cruz captured our attention because it is a small colonial house, oriented to outdoor living within a traditional and genuine neighborhood. We appreciate its simplicity and minimalism, but also enjoy being there because it always feels full of life. We have tried to keep it true to its origins. We enjoy our great neighbors, the simple neighborhood things like beeping tricycles with fresh baked goods every evening, walking to Parque Santiago for lunch or a movie, and being close, but not directly in the midst of Merida's major tourist attractions. We've come to really enjoy the easy day-trips to the beach in Progreso, always taking the bus to get there. Not to mention the hammocks, pool, and terraza right at the house where it's easy to spend a week without doing anything.
