About this property

Who says you need to rough it to explore the outdoors?

The Trapper’s Cabin is a 2 bedroom 1 bath cabin located in the heart of Gasquet, CA, conveniently situated off the 199 highway. Gasquet is 20 miles from the ocean, 10 miles from the Redwood National Forest, and sits directly on the Smith River. Come for the many adventures that the tallest trees, cleanest river, and secluded beaches have to offer, but stay for a sense of pure serenity.

The cabin is just a short walk to the river. There is a fish cleaning station and grill in the backyard for anyone who is lucky enough to catch a prize winning steelhead or salmon. The immediate neighborhood is perfect for bike rides, hiking, kayaking, fishing, swimming, mushroom hunting, berry picking, bigfoot hunting, bird watching, quartz or gold mining, and stargazing. There is also an amazing massage therapist within walking distance, in case your adventures have left you feeling a bit sore.

At the Trapper’s Cabin, you will have a spectacular view of the Adam’s Station, a local landmark. The view will take you back to the 1800’s, when Mary Adams Peacock entertained the many travelers who stopped at her B&B for a warm meal and comfortable bed. Yet, the cabin itself, has all the comforts and amenities of home. It has been designed for the explorer who still likes to come home to a memory foam mattress and smart TV.

There is a queen sized mattress in each of the two bedrooms, as well as two cot-sized day beds in the living room, in case you need to sleep six. There is also a full kitchen and small laundry room. The backyard is secure and well suited for pets or small children. Although the cabin is relatively private, after a walk around the neighborhood, you will find that Gasquet has some of the most friendly neighbors around.

NOTES:
There is only one market in Gasquet with limited groceries. You will want to come prepared if you plan on cooking. The nearest grocery store is in Crescent City (20 miles west) or Cave Junction (35 miles east). There is also only one restaurant in Gasquet (Patrick Creek Lodge) and one restaurant in Hiouchi, the next town west, (Hiouchi Cafe).

If you would like to book a massage, fishing trip, kayak rental, etc. you should do so well in advance. The following is a list of resources:

Very cute place with all the comforts needed to relax and recharge on our travels. There were several thoughtful items to make the stay entertaining and memorable. My favorite was the large wall map that had been personalized by prior guests who had pinned places of interest things to do, etc. A close second are the dog treats and comfy bed for our pup who enjoyed sitting on the front porch while we drank coffee. Great location for those who like to explore.

A cute, comfortable cottage and very peaceful place to come "home" to after a day of exploring. Sit on the front porch and enjoy the peaceful countryside setting or take a stroll. Close to several swimming holes and access to Howland Hill Rd. for redwood hikes. Loved the map on the wall and amusing assortment of books, including a short history of Gasquet.Notes to be aware of:-There is some road noise from 199.-As is clear from the reviews, many people bring their dogs to this property. If you have allergies/asthma, you might need to take your medication like some of my family did, so bring it just in case. The property was clean, but of course not all pet dander can be eliminated.

The house was great. Had everything you need for a quick getaway. Obviously the house is older but it has a lot of fun corks. The beds you’re comfortable. Be careful with the shower though the water pressure is on point The water goes everywhere and you can tell the flooring is getting pretty weak from being overly wet all the time. Altogether, we had a great time great, location was nice short walk to the river and everyone we came across was very friendly. Close to some parks and Crescent city for the ocean. The kids all enjoyed the porch swings. And the big backyard. We didn’t bring the dogs this time but next time we surely will! There was quite the cute set up for the dogs
