About this property
Silver Willows Ursa Cabin on 4 Acres by the Creek
Get away from the highway! The Silver Willows "Ursa" cabin is the sister cabin to Silver Gate's highest-reviewed rental property, Sarva ("The Moose," VRBO #316248).
This cabin is situated in the eastern meadow of a four acre parcel of land, bordered by pine and aspen trees to the west and north, with Soda Butte Creek a stone's throw away. Tall pine trees ensure privacy between the two cabins. The property is located on the south side of Soda Butte Creek, so you'll be away from the highway traffic that runs through town.
This cabin comfortably sleeps 4 (1 queen bed, 2 full beds), with an added raised air mattress available for a fifth guest. Please note that a fifth guest will invoke the $30/night extra persons fee.
Ursa is found in the small town of Silver Gate, Montana, 1 mile outside of Yellowstone National Park’s northeast entrance and 3 miles down the road from Cooke City. The Silver Gate/Cooke City area is popular with wolf watchers (the Lamar Valley is a short drive away!) and park visitors looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the larger border towns, as well as winter sports enthusiasts who come to take advantage of the recreation opportunities in the Beartooth Mountains.
The Silver Willows property is located away from the highway on 4 acres of woodland bordered by Soda Butte Creek, which runs through the property on its way into Yellowstone National Park. This cabin sleeps up to 4 people on a queen bed (in the master bedroom) and 2 full beds (in the loft), all with memory foam mattresses. It's a great option for smaller groups and families, while larger groups may want to consider the Sarva cabin.
Because the property is south of the highway, snowmobilers have quick access to the Bannock Trail and can ride directly from the property to the backcountry sledding areas beyond. In 2016 we added additional trailer parking areas on the property for those hauling in their sleds.
Whether you want to enjoy the wonders of Yellowstone, a quiet picnic at the creek or a snowmobile ride in winter, Silver Willows is the perfect getaway.

About the host
Hosted by Max and Jenn

Jenn and Max are based in Seattle, but were annual visitors to Yellowstone for many years before choosing to build a cabin near the park. Max's work as a nature photographer drew him to the natural wonders of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and the cabin was "a really good excuse to visit more often."
Why they chose this property
We were very fortunate to find a property that was so close to the park, is filled with trees, has mountain views and even has Soda Butte Creek running through it on the way to the park. It really felt like being in Yellowstone despite technically being outside the park boundary. Seeing moose grazing in our willows or spying one of the town foxes hunting in the meadow really makes us feel at home in nature. Even when we're tucked inside, we're constantly peeking out the window to see if any of our wild neighbors have come by to say hello.
What makes this property unique
We're excited to offer this new second cabin as an option for smaller families and groups. The cabin is in a great spot. Positioned on the opposite side of the creek from the highway, our guests are able to enjoy a fair bit of peace and quiet. There's also a stand of trees in between the two cabins, so concurrent groups can maintain privacy. During winter, visitors can ski out from the cabin, or ride their snowmobiles onto the Bannock Trail up to Cooke City and the backcountry. With so much of the property growing wild, we love going for peaceful walks along the creek, brushing past the moose's favorite willows and walking beneath the pine trees as woodpeckers tap away and squirrels gather food.
