La Grande Serve
Just having the illusion that you are alone in the world, surrounded by beautiful things and nature, that is a holiday at La Grande Serve.
"Glamping" is a strange word but it describes what you will find here: simple comfort in a cozy caravan with a small kitchenette, a wonderfully spacious bed and good seats. Outside, the double German beach basket is waiting for you. Its adjustable hood protects you from the wind and too much sun, great for lounging for a long time or lounging with a cool glass at sunset. You can read lazily in the hammock, if you can manage it before your eyes close, and if it gets too hot, let yourself cool down, or warm up when it's a little cooler, in your own spacious hot tub.
You have your own, original bathroom, disguised as a hay wagon, with a toilet in the still authentic barn at about 50 m. of your gypsy wagon that borders the spacious colorfully decorated summer kitchen where you can cook, play and chat. Also useful if your friends unexpectedly sit down for a day.
A baby can also find a place in the caravan. You can place a tent for slightly older children. You do need your own baby bed and / or camping gear for this.
Location
La Grande Serve belongs to the tiny village La Chabanne and is located 780 meters above sea level at the end of a dirt road protected by the woods on the one side and a spectacular view on the Besbre Valley and the “Monts de La Madeleine”.
The region is also known as the ‘little Switzerland’ of France because of the region’s exceptionally pure air. Surrounding la Grande Serve is a pristine landscape of mixed forests, hamlets, farms and tiny villages, dotted with streams, country roads and walking paths.
However, the charming cities of Roanne and Vichy are both only about 45 minutes away by car, so you won’t feel isolated. This is the spot to mountain bike, f.e. on our electric powered bikes, fish, read, hike, and eat like a king.
It’s about a 3-kilometre ride to the village, but by foot, it’s only 600 meters. You can wine and dine in the village at the Auberge des Campanules. Groceries and vegetables and fresh bread (3 times a week) can also be found at the Auberge. The nearest large town is Le Mayet de Montagne, 12 kilometres away, with everything from a supermarket to medical facilities.

About the host
Hosted by Adriaan Lokman
Owners Adriaan & Charlotte, together with Zara, the playful Border collie, are the residents of La Grande Serve. Adriaan graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam and has been living here since 2005 and since last year with Charlotte. As art lovers, he is an animation film director and artist, she worked for years at the Center Pompidou in Paris, they pay a lot of attention to original and inspiring details. Life becomes even more attractive when you surround yourself with beautiful things. You will find that at La Grande Serve.
Adriaan never wants to make the same thing twice. His surrealistic bathrooms that resemble a hay wagon from the outside are an example of this. Or the farmers 'disco lamp' that starts to turn slowly after sunset and scatters a confetti of lights through the summer kitchen. His animation films have been shown at many festivals worldwide, he is now working on 3d printed video installations and a VR version of his latest film entitled Flow. Charlotte studied Naturopathy and massage and is now learning Dutch.
They had nothing to add to nature and the view. La Grande Serve is a small mare, fed by one of the many pure springs that lie on and around the site. The soft whistling of the toads and the distant owls do the rest.
