ADDED INFORMATION
• Please keep in mind that due to the location of shore line in the cove, the current may occasionally bring in debris, including wood, trash and often entire trees. Moss and algae are part of living on the water and we have very little control over what the current brings in on a daily basis. We try to keep the area cleaned out, however we are not on site daily. We have no control over this. If you encounter any issues during your stay, don't hesitate to reach out to us; we're here to make your experience unforgettable.
WILDLIFE ENCOUNTER PRECAUTIONS:
1. Respect Distance: Keep a safe distance to observe wildlife; avoid trying to pet or approach animals.
2. No Feeding: Do not feed wildlife to protect their natural habits.
3. Stay Quiet: Keep noise levels low to avoid startling or stressing animals.
4. Avoid Nesting Areas: Be cautious around nests; don't disturb nesting sites. Osprey nests, among others, are located to the left of the dock in the overgrown tree/brush area.
5. Heed Signs: Obey warning signs from mother deer protecting their young.*
6. Leash Pets: Keep pets leashed to prevent them from chasing or harassing wildlife.
7. Dispose of Trash: Use designated bins to avoid litter that can harm animals.
8. Educate Yourself: Learn about local species and their behaviors.
9. Emergency Response: In close encounters or emergencies, contact wildlife authorities for help.
*Mother deer use a combination of physical signals and behaviors to warn away potential predators and protect their fawns. These warnings are designed to deter threats and keep their offspring safe:
1. Stomping: When a mother deer senses danger, she may stomp her hooves on the ground. This produces a rhythmic noise that can alert nearby animals to potential threats.
2. Snorting: Deer can emit a sharp, loud snorting sound when they perceive danger. This sound serves as an alarm to other deer in the vicinity.
3. Tail Flagging: Mother Deer may raise their tails to display the white underside, which is highly visible and serves as a visual warning to predators.
4. Direct Confrontation: In some cases, if a perceived threat comes too close to the fawn, the mother deer might confront the predator directly, using her hooves or antlers if necessary.
