Thank you for choosing to stay with us and experiencing the island. We are one of the few properties with Internet and are glad we can provide guests opportunities to stay connected. We pride ourselves on being a welcome retreat for rest and relaxation.
We knew there were limited activities on the island, which is what we were looking for. Everyone on the island was so helpful and friendly. We had dinner delivered our first night. Very good. It rained the time we were there so we couldn’t ride the bikes, but walking was easy between the periods of rain. Only disappointment was the fire pit, there was a tree growing out of it and was in a large puddle of water. (I know the water couldn’t be helped). Also the upstairs shower water didn’t seem to get hot even though the down stairs did. Overall, it was a pleasant and relaxing time. John was very responsive to our email requests.

Thanks for choosing to stay with us. We have staff available and would have gladly had any issues addressed had you reached out to us. Glad you enjoyed your stay!
We had a great time on the island. Starting with the enjoyable ferry ride and helpful van shuttle to the house. Michelle was always very quick to respond to our questions. It was our first time to the island so we weren’t sure what to expect. Her house was great. Plenty of room. We wished we could have brought friends along. Maybe another time when covid isn’t an issue. The house was very clean and had all we needed. The AC worked great even in the hot weather we had. We enjoyed playing some of the games at the house and looking at the books. The WiFi worked great. Although I wish my kids didn’t know it was there. Our only complaint with the house was that there wasn’t any storage for our clothes in dressers since they were full. The master bedroom closet was locked for the owners. But everything else was fine. She helped arrange great steamed crabs and Ms. Jennifer’s Smith Island cake. Both were great! ( we also got a cake from the bakery but thought hers was better) She introduced us to Captain Wes who gave us a great boat tour to an island of nesting egrets and another area with hundreds (maybe 1000s) of pelicans and their babies and also cormorants. He then took us to Tylerton so we could walk around and have lunch at the Drum Point Market. All a highlight of our trip. We road the bikes around town and all the way to Rhodes Point a few times. They were nice to get thru all the puddles with the very high tides. I brought my own kayak but the rest of the family used the Inn’s kayaks. They were ok. I made it to Tylerton in mine but they weren’t comfortable in the house kayaks. Lots of life jackets to use too. We enjoyed the Fourth of July parade immensely and even went to church Sunday. We had a great time at Michelle’s House and would definitely stay there again.
We enjoyed the comfy home. It was like staying at a close relative's home. Location close to town (bike or walkable) to all the local hot spots. A/C was a life-saver. Great little library collection. I learned a lot about Smith Island.
This was a great place to stay with kids. The house was clean and tidy, we were very comfortable. The only reason I give it an overall 4 is that there were a number of amenities that did not work (TV remote, Xbox), a few cluttered cubbards, and drywal starting to peel or unfinished trim. But this did not detract from our stay. The host was very responsive to our needs, and honestly given the work associated with maintaining a house in such a remote location we were happy.
Very relaxing short getaway. Great communication from the property managers. Some of the house was a little dusty and the back deck/ramp was a little bit overgrown but nothing terrible. We were a little bit disappointed in the condition of the bikes that were available as some of them had flat tires or chains that were off or bent pedals but we were able to find a couple that worked and there are rental bikes and go carts available on the island as well. Definitely would go again and would recommend!
The house is very comfortable and clean. We came during flies season and it's sad not to have a screen porch. The only thing is the schedule with check out and the boat departure, no synchronization.

About the host
Hosted by Michele Davidson
My name is Michele, and my husband and I are the owners of the Smith Island Inn and Cottages. We have been in operation since 2012 but have been serving individuals as nurses for over 50 combined years. We have combined our love for people and our instinct to take care of them to create a unique island retreat with everything guests need. As parents to 4 children, we know the importance of adult time, family time, and spending time with friends. We have tried to capture that here in our island residence which we open up to others to enjoy. My husband and I are both nurse practitioners and practice and live in the Virginia Beach area. We have 4 children who have grown up loving Smith Island, with its unique freedoms. We hope you will come and enjoy this Island community we have learned to love.
Why they chose this property
Michele's House is roomy, comfortable and completely renovated. If you need Wifi, this is one of the only rentals with that service. The house is set up for large groups but serves smaller families comfortably as well. We have ample table seating and beds to allow groups and families to spend time together under one roof. We also are on of the only rentals that offers a landline (we admit our cell service is spotty) and Wifi service. Most rentals do not have Internet here. We recognize many guests need to stay connected while enjoying some R&R at the same time. We also have two televisions with Roku that guests can enjoy.
What makes this property unique
We have expertise in making great experiences happen! We offer full concierge services! We can arrange catering private charter service on our own boat with a licensed captain, catering, Smith Island cake delivery to the house, fishing, birdwatching, and watermen tours. We can also arrange private charters and sunset cruises. Our property offers use of our bikes, kayak, and canoe so you can get out on the water.
