Escape to the beautiful Blue Mountains and immerse yourself in this amazing Historic Retreat.

Built in the 1920's.... so 100 years worth of history & trinkets including an original old door from an old 'rattler train' & beautiful lead light windows!

Pet Friendly but PLEASE NOTE NO ENCLOSED BACK YARD. Check pics to determine if suitable for your pet.

A 5-10min walk to all that you might need... Springwood Train Station, grocery & bread shop, newsagent, cafe's, restaurants etc..

It is an old place with real character. I enjoyed staying there with my family. One concern (not the fault of the host) is that the avenue exits onto a fast dual carriageway so it feels a bit dangerous - especially if you turn right for Leura etc.

Great holiday, the property was excellent, very comfortable and cosy. The kitchen was well appointed with every gadget you could need, every room contained artworks, stained glass or antique nick naks which was quirky and interesting. Though near the Hwy the street was really quiet and no noise concerns.

Exactly what we expected

We had a great time and the place was exactly as advertised. It was spacious, very clean and once we figured out how to cross the highway we realized how close we were to town! Ideal spot. I especially loved sitting outside and seeing the cockatoos flying around or waking up to the different birds singing! It was a wonderful start to our trip before we went into the city for a few nights! I would definitely stay there again!

It worked

We stayed 10 days in January on a five-month holiday around Australia. We do not usually stay in 5 star hotels, so I'm no snob. The location was perfect for us as we wanted to see the Blue Mountains and Sydney on this stop. 5 min from the train to Sydney and 10 min from the Blue Mountain parks was perfect. The house is advertised as a "Stylishly renovated 1920's historic retreat" and had a good amount of space, nice size rooms, loads of hot water. The kitchen is functional but has a dozen or so appliances that are antiques and cannot be used and a gas stove that needs repair. The property is nice but needs some TLC. The overgrown front yard is like bush walking to get to the front door which drags on the floor so hard that I had to use my shoulder to get it to move. There's a grove from the door that has ground through the finish on the floor. The throw rugs on the floor curl up when walking through and trip you on the return trip. The house has great potential but needs some work.

As we don't live in NSW we can not always stay on top of every issue or even be aware of some issues that can arise at any time & we do appreciate it when guests provide feedback about what could be done better! We did struggle with the lawns when we had so much rain & a very unreliable mowing man but fortunatley we have someone reliable now. Despite many of the applicance being antique and not being able to be used there are plenty that are suitable for guest use as acknowledged in other guest reviews. The is no problem with the functioning of the gas stove, it is missing the ignition button but the gas lighter guns are provided to light the stove top & oven. The front door where it was rubbing on the floor has been fixed! We are glad that the location of the house suited your needs & that you enjoyed your stay!

A unique property, great location

We spent a wonderful weekend in this historic cottage with family to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. It was like a trip back in time, as the 1920s cottage was still largely in original condition but with all the conveniences expected (other than the single bathroom and separate toilet, which resulted at times in some queueing, and no dishwasher, which would have spoiled the otherwise well-equipped old-style kitchen!). The cottage is quaintly and tastefully furnished, and interesting ”niknaks” abound. The main bedroom was spacious with a comfy queen bed but other guests need to sleep on sofa beds. We found the sofabed that we had in the cosy “ 2nd bedroom” was a bit tricky to mount and needed some padding to make it comfortable, but there were plenty of doonas and blankets available for this. The pretty leadlight windows in the room made the effort worthwhile! There is a sunny porch at the back overlooking the bush, and a backyard for the kids to play in, and pick some citrus fruit (I hope the owner doesn’t mind, it was a real treat for city kids). The lovely Birdwood Gully was close by, and we enjoyed the bushwalk there. Likewise the village shops were only a few minutes’ walk away. A charming one-off holiday cottage you will always remember.

)love the look of the place( oriental and retro), kitchen has absolutely all mod cons. Bushwalk is near just a little up road. Close to town. Very quiet. The layout of the house is really interesting and inviting. There is lots to look at and watch and read. The second bedroom is ok with the double bed folded out. But jeez it's tricky to put it up. Nearly broke two mirrors trying to do so. Would appreciate a permanent bed in that room, as I do wish to stay again.

Thanks Andrew for your detailed review. We have replaced the sofa bed in the 2nd bedroom/games room, it is now a sprung fold out sofa bed.... much easier to put up than the ikea sofa bed. So glad that you enjoyed the layout and all the nik naks and books. We hope to welcome you back again soon!

Why they chose this property

If you want to step back in time and live like the locals lived 100 years ago then this is the property for you!

PLEASE NOTE - NO AIR CONDITIONING OR CEILING FANS, but there are plenty of portable fans as well as Gas Heating in Winter.

This fully-furnished house is in a great location! Longer stays welcome.

Just 5mins walk from the Springwood train station, if you take the shortcut through the pathway & across the highway.

In the large main bedroom you will find a Queen bed.

The 2nd bedroom/Games Room is small but is just beautiful with 3 amazing leadlight windows. The sofa in this room converts to a small double bed for kids or will fit a single adult. We leave it as a Sofa and you are welcome to convert it to a bed if needed (all linen supplied)

In the Lounge room there's a fold out sofa bed that sleeps one. Inside the main bedroom wardrobe you will find a topper that fits on top of the sofa bed mattress to make it more comfortable! This topper can also be used as a single bed if needed.

There is also a floor mattress, which is stored in the main bedroom.

You will find a beautiful old kitchen with the original fireplace and an enclosed verandah that completely surrounds the house.

You will love this newly renovated & decorated house. A modern touch with remnants of 1920's style & character right through..... to touches of the 60's & 70's. A true reflection of the generations that have lived in this house since the 1920's

PETS
There is an enclosed balcony & attached laundry where your pets can roam freely!

The back yard is not enclosed but if you have a long lead you can tie the lead to the clothesline so that your pet can have access to the back garden.

There are many trinkets at the property so check the listing pics and consider carefully if the house would be suitable for your pet.

Please clean up after your pets. If there is extra cleaning required as a result of having your pet at the house we will need to charge an extra cleaning fee.

What makes this property unique

If you check out the toilet door you will see that it is an original old train toilet door back in the days of the old rattlers!! Check out the signs on this door.... definitely from a bygone era

We have attempted to retain the character of the home. Just like back in the day you will find mats on polished timber floors. There are gas heaters for use in Winter and Fans for use in summer. There is no air-conditioning, but plenty of fans & heaters

The house has:

* Old Style kitchen with the old original fireplace. Modern appliances including a fridge, freezer, microwave oven, electric kettle, toaster, pantry, all cooking utensils and cutlery/crockery

* The main bedroom has a new memory foam Queen-size bed with plenty of wardrobe storage.

* Then Games Room has the most amazing lead light windows where you will find a sofa that folds out into a single. Will fit 1 person.

* Good-sized modern bathroom with shower and a separate toilet

* Separate laundry with front and top loading washing machines and dryers

* Lounge room with a smart TV (free Netflix & Amazon Prime), PS3, Sound Bar, DVD, VHS and sofa-bed that sleeps 1. You will also find old furniture from a bygone era.

* Dine inside or outside on the balcony overlooking the beautiful garden & the Birdwood Gully.

PLEASE NOTE: Both the toilet and bathroom are located off the enclosed verandah & there are 3 steps down to access these areas. The bathroom steps are different heights - the 1st step is shorter than the 2 bottom steps that are both the same size.
