Clean. Modern. Convenient. Bright. Those are words that we often use with a home in the suburbs. Private. Relaxing. Good swimming and boating. Starry skies. Evening Fires. These are phrases we use when we talk about cottage vacations. It's not often that the two mindsets mix so freely as they do at Sand Lake Getaway!
This cottage is situated on the Magnetawan River a very short distance from Sand Lake, giving the same feeling as having your home in a cul-de-sac close to all the conveniences. The greater lake is always readily available to you but the serenity and privacy (no neighbours across the river!) gives you the rest you crave.
The first thing you will notice when you arrive is that the cottage is the sun and shade gazebo with seating and BBQ. This is a lovely outdoor gathering spot and will no doubt be the focal point of a few conversations while the outdoor cook in your group prepares the meal. As you walk around to the water side of the property, you will notice a nicely manicured lawn leading to the riverbank. There is a large sunny deck on the water side of the cottage to complement the gazebo. You notice the fire pit on you way to the dock and look forward to a marshmallow roast or two, perhaps with a couple of tall tales thrown in. At dockside, you notice how the riverbank creates a cozy feel and how the dock affords wonderful views up the river and down towards the lake. Largely sheltered from wind and offering both shade and sun, we think a LOT of time will be spent here, whether it's swimming, relaxing, or launching into a kayak exploration of the local waterways.
Let's step inside the cottage and look around a little. The focus here is simple elegance. Wood floors throughout the upper level give a bright clean feel to the living room, main bath and 2 bedrooms on this level. Large screen TV's are great for movie nights, and the kitchen and dining areas let you enjoy prepare and enjoy meals in comfort. Oh, we almost forgot the star of this level - a wonderful sun room with corner windows with a view down river towards the lake. The wood panelled walls, the comfortable seating and picturesque views lets you know you are truly in a "Muskoka room".
Downstairs, there is another large bedroom and a family room for entertainment. We think this area will be popular with the children and teens in the group who will want to claim a space of their own for the week. There is also a 4-piece bath on this level.
You'll probably enjoy a stroll or two down the local roads, and cyclists will want to bring their gear. A scenic 30km ride down Chetwynd road takes you into Burks Falls where you can refuel at a local cafe. Burks Falls is also the place for groceries and other essentials. Even closer, the town of Kearney (just 10 minutes away) offers a few eateries and convenience stores. The larger center of Huntsville, famous for cottage country atmosphere, is just a half-hour drive and offers restaurants and entertainment. If you've heard about Algonquin Park all your life and want to see it, it's also just a 30 minute drive to the Rain Lake access point or Forestry Tower Road.
Sand Lake Getaway is the perfect spot for families wanting to enjoy cottage country without sacrificing the modern comforts.

Waterfront
The lawn leads to a short flight of stairs leading down to the waterfront dock. There is sandy, shallow entry here and the water deepens gradually for about 10-12 feet, then drops off to a greater depth at the end of the dock. In general it is weed free.
Trivia Sand Lake is part of the Magnetawan River system. The river enters the lake at the north shore and flows out of the south end of the lake. There are two islands in the lake. Blueberry Island is located near the northern shore of the lake, close to the mouth of the Magnetawan River. The larger Emerald Island is located in the west bay of the lake, west of Rock Point.
