About this property

Smuggler's Hideaway, Lanena

Once home to a former French Resistance fighter, Smuggler's Hideaway is exactly that - a secluded hideaway to escape from whatever it is that you need to, and totally relax immersed in the serenity of the Tamar River and the amazing Tamar Valley region.
Built in the 1940s, the house is barely visible from the road but opens up to the array of vistas presented by the river across to the green banks of the East Tamar.
You will feel totally hidden away, whilst enjoying the most amazing location.
This enchanting, two-bedroom stay has been designed to take in the amazing views of the Tamar river and the green hills beyond. It perfectly combines the home’s original features with a modern update, offering guests a cosy and generously proportioned space to unwind and relax while being just minutes from the best of the Tamar Valley's attractions.

Open-plan living welcomes guests to settle in on the oversized corner lounge and watch TV, read a book or just cosy up in front of the wood heater. Prepare meals for loved ones in the fully equipped kitchen which includes all the essentials you need, including a fridge, freezer, oven, stove, and microwave, as well as other basics such as pots, pans, and utensils.

Eat together in the light-filled dining area, where a four-seater table setting overlooks the deck and the amazing Tamar River. Should you choose to dine alfresco, or want to cook up a feast on the BBQ, french doors seamlessly connect the dining area with a private outdoor space, complete with a table and seating.

Two thoughtfully furnished bedrooms accommodate four guests. The main bedroom takes full advantage of the river views and you would be forgiven if you thought you were actually staying on a boat as the river feels so close when you bunker down in the room's super-king bed. Bedroom two features a double bed and views into the property's garden.
The main bathroom features a shower over the spa bath and a vanity.

Other conveniences include Wi-Fi and central air-conditioning/electric heating.
During your stay, you and your group will have the entire house to yourself. Please make yourself at home!

There is a unit and studio located on the property and these will be occupied from time to time. The entrance to these are completely separate from the main house.
Please read and respect the house rules. This is very much appreciated, thank you! Before your arrival, we will also share a house guide that contains instructions on how to access the property, use certain appliances, and do anything else you may need to know.

Over all very happy. A couple of reasons we will not go back -- 1. we are in our seventies and the steps are a bit dodgy especially with nectarines on them as they were when we were there. Get slippery when they rot. In saying that the gardener did come to clean them up -- 2 Once again with our age climbing into a bath to have a shower was a bit dodgy. Oh to be young again.

What a view!!!
Spectacular views from a great location. House was extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated. We barbecued most meals and appreciated the coffee machine. Very roomy and private. Lovely breeze through the house on warmer days. We really enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended.

Serenity!
My partner and I had a wonderful stay at Smugglers Hideaway. The view of the river was breath taking to wake to every morning and it really felt like a hideaway, so peaceful and serene. The property had everything you would need and we had a lovely couple of nights staying in to our own ‘home cooked meals’. We highly recommend a stay here and will definitely be back.
