Kick back and relax in this calm, stylish space called Kookaburra Cottage on the beautiful Macleay island within Moreton Bay marine park. This late 60’s house has been beautifully renovated with serene views of beautiful trees from the heritage block next door.
Visitors arriving on Macleay Island find it to be a beautiful and peaceful place in a gorgeous bay setting, where you can enjoy nature and the abundant bird life.
Kookaburra Cottage is situated towards the north end of 6 km long Macleay Island and only 200 metres from Dalpura Beach (the best little beach on Macleay Island). ABOUT THIS SPACE
Kookaburra Cottage is a 60’s style house that has been lovingly renovated with light filled rooms. There are plenty of tall trees to gaze at through the windows. The kitchen/dining/living space is open planned with great views out to the heritage blocks next door and out the back where the large trees provide a lot of bird life, including Kookaburras.
A variety of sleeping options are available with three bedrooms and 4 beds - queen bed, double bed and two single beds. All bedrooms have fans and opening casement windows (with mosquito screens) to catch the lovely sea breezes.
You can whip up a snack or cook a feast in the fully functioning kitchen. There is a large fridge, oven, microwave, cooktop and dishwasher, as well as a washer/dryer. There are some spreads and supplies in the pantry.
A large back patio gives you different spaces to hang out. There are bar stools and a table (with over hanging banana trees) where you can sip your coffee or have a glass of wine watching the beautiful sunset skies. Or there is a coffee table and cane chairs to relax in. Beside the house and behind the house are two heritage blocks with large trees and that add to the peace.
At the front of the house there is a cute covered deck area which is nice to sit down in during hot days.
The bathroom has a walk in shower and a good sized bath. We use gas bottles for the hot water and always have a spare set up ready to easily change over the knobs incase you run out. The toilet is seperate.
The garden is newly created and is being set up as an edible garden.

We also have the bush Curlews, which our Bay Islands are famous for. The are tall lanky birds that like to act like statues if you are near them. You will definitely hear their loud calling sounds starting around sunset.

So glad you had a great time at Kookaburra Cottage! I loved the sweet messages left by your two girls. It was good to hear they enjoyed themselves.
Excellent fully equipped property. We were greeted by friendly host and updated on all amenities and how to use.
Highly recommend. Thank you for the opportunity to enjoy your lovely property.
Stayed in school holidays, property was Awesome. Had everything to make your stay comfortable, close to water and convenient to places of interest. Only thing to mention was the master bedroom was too bright to sleep in . But overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay 👍🤗
Beautiful home situated on a very friendly and clean island. The home is spotless and absolutely stunning inside and out. The kookaburras are welcoming, the other native birds pop in to say hello too! A delightful home, beautiful host, amazing people who made me and my friend feel very welcome :)

Thanks so much for your lovely review Delma! I’m glad you enjoyed the abundant bird life and nature. It is certainly very peaceful here on the island and easy for us locals to take for granted.
You are very welcome to stay again anytime.
We really enjoyed our stay. Excellent beds. House was comfortable, homely and maintained to a high standard. Equipped with anything you’d need to self cater or stay longer than a week. The aircon worked well on the few chilly nights. Located in a quiet neighbourhood a short stroll from the water with beautiful bird life in and around the yard. Host Michaela was friendly, thoughtful and helpfully provided information about the island. We would happily stay again.

Thank Glyn for your review. Glad you had a great stay. Yes Macleay Island is a very friendly place. I hope to host you again sometime!
The property was lovely providing a very lovely stay.
Lovely spot lovely nature birds ect around tge house.
The only thing that was missing was a radio to listen to music from the local station without listening to it through limited choices of the TV
I would have enjoyed sitting out the back more comfortably with a couple of deck lounges and cover if it rained.
It would have been nice to have a bbq.
Last of all a small suggestion if you put the price up just a little it would cover unlimited wifi service. It was difficult to use ph as have limited data on ph plan and could not Bluetooth to TV.
Otherwise beds comfy and supplies for kitchen great. A few egg cups would be great if you had a family stay.
Kind regards
Karen and Greg

Thank you for your review. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Yes it is a great suggest about getting some deck lounges… I am just trying to solve the issue of whether I get a roof area to protect outdoor fabric chairs. And definitely I will be purchasing a bbq shortly for the back deck area.
