Our 1,500 sq. foot, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, pet friendly, cabin is situated on an acre overlooking a stocked trout pond and is located 2 miles from Purgatory and 23 miles (less then 30 minutes) to downtown Durango. This residence offers a complete interior and exterior remodel with modern appointments that compliment the rustic mountain feel of the home.

This property offers a truly Colorado mountain cabin experience along with a stocked pond for fishing right out the back door (no license needed) and a hot tub overlooking the pond with great views of the Hermosa Cliffs and a deck with a gas BBQ grill. There are two exceptional recreational lakes nearby, Electra and Havilland, and the area is replete with hiking trails and recreational diversity including snowshoeing and cross country skiing, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, mountain biking and many many other recreational pursuits. Let this wonderful property with its best-in-class location be your home base for adventure, or your tranquil and quiet respite in the midst of the stunning beauty of the San Juan National Forest.

This home is pet friendly! We allow a maximum of 2 dogs max and the pet fee is $40/day (for a max $250 per stay).

Please note that, like most properties in the area, this home does not have AC, as it is uncommon for homes at this elevation. Temperatures inside the property are easily managed by using fans and opening the windows at night when temperatures drop into the 40s.

Beautiful cabin and great location!

We loved our stay! The cabin is located nearby to Purgatory Ski Resort, Silverton, and Durango, and we enjoyed all 3 places on our trip. The cabin was clean and comfortable, and our dogs were happy to be with us. The host company emailed/texted us a couple of times during the trip asking for us to reach out if there were any issues.

Perfect cozy cabin in a magical place

This cozy cabin was perfect for my husband, myself, and our 4 daughters. The location was exactly what we needed to fit our trip needs. The hot tub was much needed after snow days on the mountain. We left a sled behind because it got lost in so much snow. It was just magical.

Perfect location

This is our second time staying here. It’s a beautiful mountain getaway in a perfect location. We can’t wait to be back! If you’re coming in winter, bring chains and 4x4. The driveway can be sketchy. Perfect mountain cabin

Excellent Cabin near Purgatory Ski Resort

The cabin was located 1 mile away from the purgatory ski resort. Accessibility was excellent. The cabin was clean with the amenities needed for a weeks stay. Main bedroom is a full size bed, pretty tight for 2 people to sleep comfortably. The 4 beds in the upstairs loft are twin size. If your traveling with adults or teenagers, the bed are small. The sofa pull-out bed is in need of a new mattress. The jacuzzi is wonderful. The views are incredible.

Loved the cabin!

We loved staying in this cabin that was SO close to the Purgatory Resort. We were also happy to only be about 30 minutes to downtown Durango. The cabin was perfect for our ski trip, to relax in the hot tub after a day of ski and to be able to dry all of our gear using the dryer! The home was also pet friendly, so we were able to bring our pup who had so much fun running around in the snow! Would definitely recommend this place. The only concern we had was the stairs coming down from the loft were super slippery and one of the guests slipped and hurt her knee. Otherwise, no complaints and we very much enjoyed our stay!

Can’t beat the location!

This little house was a perfect place for our family of 2 high school girls and my husband and I. This is the closest we have stayed to Purg and it was perfect! The best thing was the hot tub on the back patio. We used it every night even on the snowstorm and now we will have a hard time renting without one;-) We had an issue with the internet not working but management responded quickly and since it didn’t get fixed until the end of our stay they gave us a 10% refund which was appreciated! FYI…cell service is horrible up there so internet is definitely needed.

The only thing I would want to see changed is the check out time of 10:00am. Check in was at 4:00pm and check out at 10:00am which didn't leave much time on arrival day or departure day.

Perfect Location - Beautiful Views

We travel a lot and stay in lots of VRBOs all over the world. I loved this one! The location in terms of proximity to wonderful hiking, the ski resort, Durango, etc...is perfect, yet you're on a huge piece of land directly in the mountains with a beautiful pond view. The single only downside is the road noise, but that is easily overcome, and the road makes access to area attractions to convenient. I love the hot tub, the GIANT laundry room (which I used the entire time - as a mom this was maybe the biggest perk), and the views from every window. I highly recommend for anyone who wants to a cozy cabin in the woods. A bear even came onto our porch to visit one morning.

3 day drive from Jersey

Great place, good location between Durango and Silverton. Anyone with a teenage daughter knows they are hard to please but she had a fantastic week at this property. Did not catch and fish in the pond and don’t think it was stocked. Only thing I didn’t try was explosives ( ha ha). But the trails around the property was fun. If you take the train to Silverton do the bus on the way home if you have kids- hint hint. Overall ( and this is what the kids say) was worth the 3 day drive to and 3 days back. Thx

Awesome Mountain Get Away

It was great for our dogs to run around and not have to worry about them bothering any one. It’s a bit of a drive outside of Durango, but totally worth it!! The ONLY negative would be that it seemed as though the water had not been ran in a while and the first 2 days there was a strong sulphuric smell when you turned on the faucet. This faded after a couple of showers, but would recommend running the water prior to guests if the house has been vacant for a while. Would definitely still go back!!

We like to cook so the fact that there was a grill and a fully stocked kitchen were big bonuses for us. We used the hot tub one morning while we had coffee and that was super relaxing. The house is exactly as advertised in the pictures if not cuter. It’s very clean and in a great location. The only downside we found about the house was that there weren’t any screens on the windows. It cooled down at night and it would have been great if we could have opened the windows at night. But with no screens these city kids left the windows closed. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay and would use this house again!

Relaxing stay in a beautiful location

Hot tub for relaxing after hiking/adventuring and then a late night soak to look at the stars - AMAZING. Layout would be perfect for a family with kiddos (bunk room upstairs). Overlooks a lake. Just wonderful. -- Would definitely stay here again --Tips: - Water is on a septic tank - very common in this area. Bring a candle to mask the slight lingering odor that all toilets on septic tanks have. - Neighbor lets their dogs (very, very friendly) roam freely and they come right up to front door. Very sweet dogs, but if your pup doesn't play well with others, this is something to keep in mind. - Recycling not available on property. We packed ours home with us, but that might not be an option for guests flying in or that have a long drive home.

Bring your cat to deal with the mice!

THE GOOD: * The property manager was good - responsive and helpful. * The location is good for hiking, climbing, off-roading, and other activities near Durango, Silverton, and Ouray, although it's at least an hour ride to get to anything. It would be excellent for Purgatory in the winter though! * The water heater is new - it broke and was replaced during our stay. THE BAD: * Mice...lots and lots of mice - our cats killed at least 1-2 per day. We brought it up with the management company, who sent someone out the same day, but then our cats caught a mouse literally within 10 minutes of us letting them out of their crate that same evening. * The appliances are very cheap and only sort of work - for example, the microwave worked as long as you didn't run it longer than 1 minute at a time - if you did, it would make a terrible noise and start sparking. You could see that the inside was actually melted in spots, presumably from the issue. * The master bed is incredibly uncomfortable - it is (presumably) old and sags in the middle, so you end up sore just trying to keep yourself from rolling into your partner. * The walls are very very thin - if you go with a group, you'll all need to go to bed and get up at the same time - if anyone stays up late or gets up early and does ANYTHING, no one else will be able to sleep. * The shower bottoms need a good scrubbing - they both have a long-standing coat of yuck that makes them somewhat slippery after a couple uses. It seemed like they have been getting only a surface clean for a while. Same thing with the floors overall - they need a good mopping. * The dishes in the cabinets had food on them, so we had to scrape it off and run the dish washer before we could cook dinner our first night there. * The fees listed on the site did not at all match the fees we were charged, nor was the discount for staying a full week applied. It was still within our acceptable price, but it bothered us a bit regardless. SUMMARY: We would not stay there again. At this price point, it's no where near what we've come to expect from short-term rental properties in the region.
